Campgrounds near Princeville, North Carolina
Princeville sits on the south bank of the Tar River in Edgecombe County, directly across from Tarboro and about a 15-minute drive from Rocky Mount. The town is a practical base for RV travelers touring eastern North Carolina's coastal plain, with highway access via US-64 and I-95 a short drive west.
Campground options near Princeville run from small independent RV parks to a national franchise. Kamper's Lodge Campground and Manning RV Campsites offer straightforward RV hookups close to town, while the Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA Journey provides a full-service stop along the I-95 corridor with the amenities typical of the KOA network. Farm Country Campground and Treeside Mobile Home and RV Park round out the local roster with quieter, longer-stay style sites.
For state-park camping with RV hookups, Medoc Mountain State Park lies roughly 30 miles northwest in Halifax County and books through the North Carolina State Parks reservation system.
Things to do near Princeville
The Tar River defines the local landscape, with paddling, bank fishing, and riverfront walking on both the Princeville and Tarboro sides. Historic downtown Tarboro sits within walking or short driving distance and includes a preserved town common and a small museum district.
Medoc Mountain State Park, about 30 miles northwest near Hollister, is the main outdoor draw. The park protects roughly 3,900 acres of eroded Piedmont terrain rising to a 325-foot summit, with more than 10 miles of hiking trails and additional bridle and mountain-biking routes. Little Fishing Creek runs through the park and supports paddling and creek fishing.
Rocky Mount adds groceries, big-box resupply, restaurants, and the Rocky Mount Mills district. Sylvan Heights Bird Park in Scotland Neck is a common day-trip for families.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel around Princeville. April, May, mid-September, and October typically deliver mild days, lower humidity, and manageable overnight lows, which is why local campgrounds see steady bookings through those months. Wildflowers and hardwood color at Medoc Mountain track the same shoulder seasons.
Summer is hot and humid on the coastal plain, with July highs averaging near 88 degrees and lows near 71, and afternoon thunderstorms common. August is typically the wettest single month at the nearby Rocky Mount station. Tropical systems can affect eastern North Carolina from June through November, with the peak risk in August and September; RV travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm with campgrounds before arrival.
Winters are short and generally mild, with January averaging a high near 48 and a low near 33, occasional cold snaps, and rare light snow. Some smaller parks reduce services or close amenity buildings in the colder months, so calling ahead is advised.
How to book campgrounds near Princeville
Private parks in the Princeville and Rocky Mount area, including the Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA Journey, Kamper's Lodge Campground, Manning RV Campsites, Farm Country Campground, and Treeside Mobile Home and RV Park, are booked directly through each property by phone or website. KOA Journey properties can also be reserved through the KOA app or koa.com. Holiday weekends and the Memorial Day through Labor Day window fill first, so booking several weeks out is recommended.
Medoc Mountain State Park and other North Carolina state park campgrounds reserve through the state's official portal operated by ReserveAmerica, with sites bookable up to six months ahead. A two-night minimum applies on holiday weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A per-reservation cancellation fee and a per-site, per-night non-refundable service fee apply.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Princeville is flat coastal-plain farmland with pine and mixed-hardwood pockets. Roads to the local private campgrounds are paved and generally easy to navigate with larger rigs, though a few rural approach roads narrow near property entrances. Confirm site length and hookup amperage when booking, especially for slide-outs and 50-amp rigs.
Cell coverage is reliable in and around Rocky Mount and Tarboro. It thins out at Medoc Mountain State Park, where visitors commonly report limited service; download maps and reservations in advance. Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall, and afternoon thunderstorms can move in quickly.
Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are easiest to find in Rocky Mount and along the US-64 and I-95 corridors.

How much does an RV rental in Princeville, NC typically cost?
RV rental in Princeville is one of the more affordable ways to explore eastern North Carolina. On RVezy, travel trailers in the area generally start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A coaches sit in the $250 to $400 range. You can save by booking midweek, traveling outside the Memorial Day to Labor Day peak, and looking for hosts who offer weekly discounts. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book to lock in the best rates fast, since Princeville's location off US-64 makes it a popular launch pad for Outer Banks trips and prices climb quickly for summer weekends.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Princeville%2C%20NCWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Princeville, NC?
Great news for first-timers: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Princeville. North Carolina does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes and travel trailers listed on RVezy, no matter the size. You'll just need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy will confirm your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly in. That's it, you're cleared to hit US-64 toward the coast.
ncdot.gov/dmv/license-id/driver-licenses/Pages/default.aspxIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included for my Princeville trip?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Princeville automatically includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on the trip. The protection plan covers damage to the RV during your rental, and you choose your preferred coverage level during checkout rather than leaving it to the host. If you get a flat on US-64 heading toward Rocky Mount or have a hookup issue at your campground at 2 a.m., one phone call gets help dispatched. This gives renters real financial peace of mind, especially if it's your first time renting an RV in eastern NC.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my Princeville RV rental?
You're covered: RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every booking (not individual hosts), and refund eligibility depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. There is a short grace period right after booking where you can typically cancel for a full refund of the rental cost. Because timing matters, review the exact cancellation terms shown at checkout before you confirm. The takeaway: booking your Princeville RV trip early is low risk, so you can secure the best rig now and finalize plans later. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Princeville?
Yes, pets are welcome on many Princeville rentals. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who allow dogs (and sometimes cats), and message the host before booking to confirm size or breed details. Once you're rolling, your pup will enjoy nearby spots like Town Common in Greenville (about 30 minutes east), the leash-friendly trails at Medoc Mountain State Park (about 45 minutes northwest), and the shoreline at Goose Creek State Park near Washington, NC (about an hour east). Pro tip: pack a long tie-out lead, a collapsible water bowl, and portable shade, since summer humidity in eastern NC can be intense.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Princeville%2C%20NC&Features=PetsAllowedCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Princeville?
Yes, RV delivery in Princeville is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you'd rather skip towing or driving a big rig through Tarboro or Rocky Mount traffic. Many RVezy hosts in the Tarboro, Rocky Mount, and Wilson area offer delivery and full setup at your driveway, a local campground, or an event venue. They'll level the rig, connect water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to find these listings, and ask the host for a delivery quote based on your destination's distance. It's a stress-free way to enjoy a motorhome rental in Princeville without ever sitting in the driver's seat.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Princeville%2C%20NC&Features=DeliveryHow far can I travel from Princeville on an RV trip?
Plenty far, Princeville's location on US-64 puts you within easy reach of some of the best RV destinations in the Southeast. The Outer Banks beaches at Nags Head are roughly 130 miles east (about 2.5 hours), New Bern and the Crystal Coast are about 90 miles south, Raleigh is 75 miles west, and the Great Dismal Swamp on the Virginia border is about 100 miles north. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance with extra miles available at a per-mile rate, and some offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage. Check the mileage policy on each listing and message the host if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Princeville.
ncdot.gov/travel-maps/Pages/default.aspxWhat are the best campgrounds near Princeville, NC for RV camping?
You have great options within an easy drive of Princeville. Medoc Mountain State Park (about 45 minutes northwest in Hollister) offers family campsites with electric and water hookups plus quiet wooded trails. The Rocky Mount / Smithfield KOA areas off I-95 provide full hookups, a pool, and easy highway access. For coastal RV camping, Goose Creek State Park near Washington (about an hour east) has wooded sites near the Pamlico River, and Cape Hatteras National Seashore campgrounds on the Outer Banks are perfect for a longer beach leg. Book NC State Parks and Cape Hatteras at least two to three months ahead for summer weekends.
ncparks.gov/state-parks/medoc-mountain-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip from Princeville, NC?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV camping in Princeville. From mid-March through May, daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 80 F range with low humidity and blooming dogwoods. September through early November brings crisp mornings, highs in the 60s and 70s, and gorgeous foliage along the Tar River. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, great for beach trips but plan for AC use. Winter is mild, often in the 50s by day, making it a quiet shoulder season for cheap RV rental in Princeville. Local insider tip: avoid mid-August through September if possible, as it overlaps with peak Atlantic hurricane season.
weather.gov/mhx/climateI've never rented an RV before. How do I know what to do?
You're in good hands: first time renting an RV is easier than it looks, especially with an RVezy host walking you through everything. At pickup (or at delivery, if you choose that option), your host gives you a hands-on orientation: how to start the generator, dump the tanks, hook up at the campground, run the awning, and use the propane stove. Most hosts also send a written guide or video link before your trip, and you can message them anytime during your rental. RVezy's support team is also available if you need help. For a stress-free start near Princeville, consider a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan rental in Princeville, both are easy to drive and park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180894-RentersWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
Every RVezy rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is just a phone call away if something goes wrong. Whether it's a dead battery at Medoc Mountain State Park, a flat tire on US-64 near Tarboro, or a propane issue at a campground on the Outer Banks, the roadside team can dispatch service, arrange a tow, or troubleshoot over the phone. Your host is also typically a quick text away for system-specific questions. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's make, model, and license plate before you leave the driveway so you have it ready if you ever need to call in.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Princeville RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, interstate travel is allowed and popular. Princeville's spot on US-64 makes it an ideal launch point for trips into Virginia (Virginia Beach is about 2.5 hours northeast) or South Carolina (Myrtle Beach is about 4 hours south). Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed on some RVezy rentals, but you must message the host before booking and confirm protection coverage extends across the border. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection and roadside assistance don't cover Mexico. Popular interstate RV road trips from Princeville include the Blue Ridge Parkway through western NC and Virginia, and the full Outer Banks loop to Ocracoke.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting for fuel in eastern NC is pretty straightforward. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG) on gasoline, Class A coaches average 6 to 10 MPG, and a smaller campervan rental Princeville can hit 16 to 20 MPG. North Carolina gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, and you'll find plenty of large-vehicle-friendly stations along US-64, I-95 in Rocky Mount, and US-264 toward Greenville. Travel trailers don't burn their own fuel, but your tow vehicle's MPG will drop by 30 to 40 percent when hitched. Pro tip: fill up at Pilot or Love's truck stops near I-95 exits, where pull-through pumps make life easy.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Princeville?
For the best sites, book early, especially at North Carolina State Parks. NC State Parks (including Medoc Mountain and Goose Creek) accept reservations up to 11 months in advance through the state's reservation system, and summer weekends sell out fast. Private parks like nearby KOAs typically fill up 2 to 3 months ahead for holiday weekends. For Cape Hatteras National Seashore campgrounds on the Outer Banks, book on Recreation.gov at least 4 to 6 months out for peak season. Local insider tip: midweek stays (Sunday through Thursday) are almost always available even in summer, so plan a Princeville RV trip Tuesday to Friday and you'll have your pick of sites.
recreation.gov/What are the local driving conditions like around Princeville?
Driving an RV around Princeville is refreshingly easy, the terrain is flat coastal plain, the main routes (US-64, US-258, and NC-33) are wide and well-maintained, and there are no mountain grades to worry about. Watch for two things: occasional flooding on low-lying roads after heavy rain (the Tar River runs right through town and has a history of flood events), and summer thunderstorms that can pop up quickly in the afternoon. Traffic is light compared to Raleigh or the Triangle, so you'll find driving an RV here is great practice for first-timers. Pro tip: avoid driving across the Tar River bridges in Tarboro during major rain events and check NCDOT's DriveNC.gov for real-time road conditions.
drivenc.gov/What hookups and amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Princeville?
You'll find a great range of options. Private RV parks near Princeville like the Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA and Rocky Mount RV Park typically offer full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer at each site), Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, and dump stations. NC State Park sites at Medoc Mountain include electric and water hookups plus a central dump station, but not sewer at each site. Most parks have potable water fill stations near the entrance. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a 30-amp to 50-amp adapter, and a sewer hose support, the three items first-timers most often forget. If you book RV delivery in Princeville, ask your host to include these in the rental.
ncparks.gov/state-parks/medoc-mountain-state-parkWhat's actually inside the RVs available to rent in Princeville?
More than you'd expect. Most RVezy rentals in Princeville come fully equipped with real beds (queen or king in the main bedroom, plus convertible dinettes and bunks in family rigs), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Many include a flat-screen TV, propane generator, outdoor awning, and even outdoor speakers. Wi-Fi varies: some hosts include a mobile hotspot, others recommend you bring your own. Filter listings by Sleeps count and amenities on RVezy, and message the host to confirm specifics like a Keurig, kid-friendly dishware, or extra bedding for a family RV trip in Princeville.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Princeville%2C%20NCWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with my Princeville RV rental?
Plenty of useful extras can make your trip smoother. Common RVezy add-ons in the Princeville area include linen and bedding packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor tables, generators (often included with motorhomes), portable grills, bike racks, and even kayaks or fishing gear from some local hosts. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Princeville, Tarboro, or nearby Rocky Mount, but many offer delivery to your campground or event venue for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, typically 100 to 150 free miles per night with extra at roughly $0.35 to $0.50 per mile, and some hosts offer unlimited mileage packages. Always review add-on prices and mileage on the listing page before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Princeville%2C%20NCHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Princeville RV rental?
It's simple and secure. When you book on RVezy, your payment is processed through the platform by credit or debit card, so there's no cash exchange with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV, and it's released after your trip if there's no damage and no policy violations like exceeding the mileage allowance. To avoid issues, do a walk-around video with the host at pickup, follow the host's fueling and dumping instructions, and return the rig on time. Pro tip: keep all gas and dump-station receipts in case any charges need to be reviewed later.
