Campgrounds and RV parks near Saluda, NC

The Green River is the area's main summer draw. Wilderness Cove Campground sits directly on the river and runs guided tubing floats through Class I and II rapids in the Green River Game Lands, which cover roughly 14,000 acres of public land with hiking, technical mountain biking, and fishing access. Waterfall hikes are close at hand. Pearson's Falls, Big Bradley Falls, and Little Bradley Falls are all within a short drive, and DuPont State Recreational Forest and Pisgah National Forest are about 30 to 45 minutes north for longer trails and cascades. In town, the Saluda Historic Depot museum, Coon Dog Day on the first Saturday after July 4, and the shops along Main Street give families an easy afternoon off the trail. Asheville, Hendersonville, and Tryon are all reachable as day trips from an RV base in Saluda.

Spring brings apple and dogwood blossoms, cool nights, and rising river flows from rain in the higher terrain to the north. Trails can be muddy, and Green River levels now fluctuate naturally rather than being regulated by an upstream hydro station, so tubing conditions vary week to week from March into May. Summer is the busy season. Daytime highs reach the upper 80s at lower elevations and drop noticeably at night in Saluda thanks to the elevation. Wilderness Cove's tubing season typically runs from late May through mid-September, most private campgrounds are at full capacity on weekends, and holiday rates apply around July 4 and Labor Day. Fall is the marquee season in Western North Carolina. Peak leaf color in the Saluda area typically arrives in mid to late October, and sites at riverside and lake campgrounds book out weeks ahead. Winter is quieter: some private parks reduce operations or close, freezing nights are common, and higher-elevation roads in Pisgah can see ice and snow. Hurricane Helene caused significant damage across Western North Carolina, and road repairs on Green River Cove Road are still ongoing, so travelers should confirm current road and park conditions before booking.

Roads into Saluda climb quickly off Interstate 26. Exit 59 is the main access, and the grades on US 176 and secondary roads can be steep and winding. Access to Wilderness Cove and the Green River Gorge is recommended via Silver Creek Road out of Mill Spring rather than the west end of Green River Cove Road, which remains under repair after Hurricane Helene. Renters new to towing should plan arrivals in daylight. Cell service is generally reliable in town and along I-26 but drops in the Green River Gorge and on some forest roads. Bears are present throughout the region, so food and trash storage rules at campgrounds should be followed closely. Summer thunderstorms build quickly in the afternoon. Grocery runs are easiest in Hendersonville or Columbus, since Saluda itself is small.
