Campgrounds and RV parks near Stoneville, NC

Water-based recreation defines the area. The Dan River State Trail passes through Rockingham County, and outfitters based at Dan River Campground and River Adventures run tubing, canoeing, and kayaking trips directly from the property. Fishing is popular on the Dan and Mayo rivers and at stocked ponds inside Mayo River State Park. Mayo River State Park offers more than two miles of hiking trails at the Mayo Mountain access, plus paddle access to Class II rapids and a waterfall on Fall Creek at the Deshazo Mill access. History and small-town stops in Madison, Mayodan, and Eden are within a short drive, and Greensboro is close enough for a day trip when travelers want city dining or shopping.

The Stoneville area is a three-season destination that also supports limited winter camping. Spring through fall is the busiest stretch, roughly April through October, when river outfitters run daily trips and pool amenities at private parks are open. At Dan River Campground and River Adventures the swimming pool typically runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, matching the regional pattern for outdoor pools in the North Carolina Piedmont. Summer brings the highest occupancy, driven by tubing weekends, family vacations, and NASCAR events at nearby Martinsville Speedway across the Virginia line. Fall sees cooler nights and lower humidity, which many RVers prefer for extended stays. Winter is quiet: several private parks remain open year-round for self-contained rigs, but seasonal amenities such as pools and river rentals shut down. Occasional cold snaps can freeze exposed water lines, so guests should confirm winter hookup availability directly with the operator before arriving.

Expect small, quiet, family-run campgrounds rather than large resort properties. Dan River Campground and River Adventures offers full and partial RV hookups, primitive tent sites, a bathhouse, laundry, general store, propane, Wi-Fi, and a gated entrance across roughly 44 acres along the Dan River. The other private parks in the area follow a similar pattern, with a mix of pull-through and back-in sites, on-site dump facilities, and modest common areas. Terrain is gently rolling Piedmont, sites are generally shaded, and cell coverage on major carriers is usable throughout the area. Riverside sites can be affected by flooding after heavy rain, and river-rental operations occasionally pause when water is high, so travelers planning tubing or paddling should check conditions with the outfitter shortly before arrival.
