Campgrounds and RV parks near Warrenton, NC

Warrenton sits in Warren County, North Carolina, roughly an hour north of Raleigh and within easy reach of Kerr Lake, one of the largest reservoirs in the Southeast. The 50,000-acre lake straddles the North Carolina and Virginia border and forms the anchor for most camping in the area, with a mix of state-run access points and privately owned parks nearby. Most RV camping around Warrenton is concentrated at Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, a collective of eight access areas around the shoreline in Vance and Warren counties, with seven campgrounds and hundreds of campsites. Kimball Point, Satterwhite Point, and Nutbush Creek are among the closer state-run options, offering electric hookups, bathhouses, showers, playgrounds, and dump stations. Private options fill in the gaps. Lake Gaston Americamps, a Good Sam park just across the Virginia line at Bracey, provides water and electric sites with a limited number of full hookups, cabins, a lakeside pool, and a boat ramp on Lake Gaston. Tobacco Farm Campground offers a smaller, quieter setup within reach of Kerr Lake boat access.

State-run sites at Kimball Point, Satterwhite Point, and Nutbush Creek are reserved through the North Carolina State Parks ReserveAmerica system. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be booked up to six months in advance. A small number of walk-up sites at certain loops are held on a first-come, first-served basis. Private parks are booked directly. Lake Gaston Americamps takes reservations by phone and through its website and offers tent, RV, and cabin accommodations, with sites able to accommodate rigs up to about 45 feet. Tobacco Farm Campground is a small operation and is best booked directly with the owners. For summer weekends and holidays, reserve as early as the booking window opens. Cancellations do release sites, so checking back a few days out can turn up openings.
