Things to do near West Marion
Lake James is the dominant draw. How to book RV sites near West Marion
Private RV parks in the area, including Barefoot Landing Camping Resort, Riverbreeze Campground, Buck Creek RV Park, Spacious Skies Hidden Creek, and The Campground at Tom Johnson Camping Center, take direct reservations through their own websites or by phone. Book several months out for summer weekends and October foliage; shoulder-season weekdays are typically easier to secure.
Lake James State Park uses the North Carolina State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Sites can be booked up to six months in advance. The park's campsites are tent-only with no RV hookups, so RV travelers should plan to stay at a private park for hookups and treat the state park as a day-use destination or tent option.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around West Marion is rolling foothills climbing quickly into the Blue Ridge. Many private RV parks sit on gently sloped, wooded lots with full hookups, fire rings, picnic tables, and bathhouses. Barefoot Landing Camping Resort is gated, covers about 65 acres, and adds a pool, boat launch, dog park, and courts. Its RV inventory is heavily seasonal, so nightly availability can be limited in peak months.
Cell coverage is generally reliable close to Interstate 40 and thins out on backroads toward Linville Gorge and higher elevations. Marion has full-service grocery, fuel, and hospital options, and Asheville is under an hour for larger runs.
Bears are present in the surrounding national forest, so store food inside the RV and use provided bear boxes where available. Gates at Lake James State Park lock overnight, with a combination code provided at booking.

Payment is simple and secure on RVezy. After dropoff and the host's inspection, the hold is released. Do a careful walkthrough video at both pickup and dropoff, return the RV clean with empty tanks, and your deposit comes back without a hitch.
