Campgrounds near Austintown, Ohio
Austintown sits in Mahoning County in northeast Ohio, just west of Youngstown and within an easy drive of a strong cluster of private campgrounds and one large Ohio state park. The area is bracketed by three sizeable reservoirs, Mosquito Lake, Lake Milton, and Berlin Lake, which anchor most of the RV camping options within roughly a half-hour to forty-five minutes of town.
Western Reserve Campground sits near Canfield and offers on-site lake fishing and swimming along with family activities through the summer months. Chaparral Family Campground in Salem features nature trails, a swimming lake with boat rentals, and a camp store. Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday sits about a mile off I-76 near Youngstown on 42 acres between Lake Milton and Berlin Lake, with RV sites, tent sites, and Deluxe Cabin rentals.
Further east, Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground occupies 55 wooded acres two miles north of I-80 Exit 234 at Hubbard, roughly halfway between Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Mosquito Lake State Park provides camping on the shores of Ohio's third-largest inland lake in Trumbull County near Cortland, with 234 sites spread across several loops.
Things to do near Austintown
Water recreation drives most trips to the area. Unlimited horsepower boating is permitted on portions of the 7,850-acre Mosquito Lake, with no skiing, tubing, or personal watercraft north of the State Route 88 causeway, and five launch ramps provide lake access. The main launch has three lanes, five courtesy docks, a pump-out station, and life jacket loaners.
Fishing is popular year-round at Mosquito Lake with catches of walleye, bass, crappie, and northern pike. On land, campers can use the 18-hole Squirrel Run Disc Golf Course, an archery range, basketball court, and a dog park with lake access. Over 20 miles of hiking trails run through the state park.
At the private parks, expect family programming: swimming lakes with inflatables, mini golf, a jumping pillow, and weekend events run through the season at Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday, while Chaparral Family Campground and Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground both offer swimming lakes, playgrounds, and themed weekend activities from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

We had the most amazing trip and lived in luxury renting from Starla! We had EVERYTHING we needed from clean beds, blankets, kitchen supplies, utensils, towels, and even awesome movie sections for our kids to watch at night. We were celebrating our son’s bday and she even put a little treat in the fridge for him. It was so sweet and he loved it. I am looking forward to renting again in the future! Who would’ve thought camping could ever be so easy and relaxing?!?! I cannot thank you enough Starla for the amazing trip we had!! 💕

How to book Austintown campgrounds
Ohio's state park sites use a single reservation system. Reservations at Mosquito Lake State Park Campground are required and may be made up to six months in advance, online through reserveohio.com or by calling (866) 644-6727. Popular summer weekends, especially lakeside loops, often go quickly when the six-month window opens, so setting a calendar reminder is worthwhile.
Private campgrounds each handle their own bookings. Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday takes reservations directly through the KOA website or by phone, and Western Reserve Campground, Chaparral Family Campground, and Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground all take bookings by phone or through their own websites. Confirm rig-length limits and hookup type when booking, since older private parks in the area include a mix of seasonal sites and shorter transient spots.
What to expect in Austintown
The camping mix around Austintown skews toward family-oriented private parks with lakes, plus one large state-park campground for a more traditional public-lands feel. Big-rig friendly RV sites with full hookups and 30/50 amp service are available at Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday, with many wooded sites. At Mosquito Lake, full-service sites offer water, electric, and sewer, while standard electric sites provide 20, 30, or 50 amp service. Non-electric and walk-in tent options are also available, and each site includes a picnic table and fire ring.
Cell coverage is generally good across the area given proximity to Youngstown and the I-76/I-80 corridor. At Mosquito Lake State Park, a maximum of two vehicles is allowed per site, a camping trailer or motorhome counts as one vehicle, and pets are limited to two per site on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Expect some highway noise at parks close to I-76 or I-80, and plan bug spray for mid-summer, particularly near marshy shorelines around Mosquito Lake.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Austintown,%20OhioDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Austintown, Ohio?
Good news: in Ohio, your regular Class D driver's license is all you need to drive any RV you'll find on RVezy, including Class A motorhomes, fifth wheels, and campervans. Ohio does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for recreational vehicles used for personal travel. To book on RVezy, approved drivers are generally required to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform before pickup. Visiting from abroad? Life happens, and RVezy has you covered with a clear cancellation policy that includes a money-back grace period right after booking. Cancellation terms are set by RVezy (not by individual hosts), so you don't have to compare fine print between listings when browsing RV rentals in Ohio. Filter for delivery on RVezy and check each listing for delivery radius and per-mile fee. This is the move if you'd rather skip the highway driving and just settle in by the lake.

weather.gov/cle/I've never rented an RV before. How do I know I won't be lost at pickup?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through how to start the generator, dump tanks, run the awning, level the rig, and connect water and electric hookups. You can also message your host any time before, during, or after your Austintown RV rental, and many will text you a quick video refresher. RVezy's Help Center and customer support team are also available to help. Pro tip: ask your host to show you the basics of mirror use and turning radius before you head to your campground.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360003044334-RentersWhat happens if I break down during my Austintown RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on State Route 11, a battery issue at Lake Milton, or a tow on the Ohio Turnpike (I-80) is one phone call away. Your host is also a quick text away for questions about quirks specific to their rig. For mechanical service, well-rated shops like Camping World of Akron and Sirpilla RV in North Canton handle bigger jobs. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV's tire pressure and fluid levels at pickup so you have a baseline if something seems off later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Austintown RV rental into Pennsylvania, New York, or Canada?
Yes to a great RV road trip from Austintown across state lines. The Pennsylvania border is only about 6 miles east, and most hosts welcome trips to Pittsburgh, the Allegheny National Forest, or up to Niagara Falls and the Finger Lakes in New York. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and their insurance, so just message them before booking to confirm and gather any paperwork needed for customs. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Popular routes from Austintown include I-80 east to the Poconos and I-90 along Lake Erie's shoreline.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a motorhome rental in Austintown?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to plan for. Ohio gas prices typically run close to or slightly below the national average. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class A motorhome rental in Austintown, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 15 to 20 MPG for a campervan, and your tow vehicle's normal MPG minus 2 to 4 for travel trailers. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop to Cuyahoga Valley and back, budget around $90 to $150 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Pilot or TA travel centers along I-80 near Girard for the easiest big-rig pull-through access.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Austintown?
For peak summer weekends (Memorial Day through Labor Day), reserve campgrounds 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for lakefront sites at Berlin Lake or West Branch State Park. Ohio State Parks open reservations on a rolling 6-month window, and the U.S. Army Corps Mill Creek Campground books through Recreation.gov. KOA and private parks typically book up 2 to 3 months out for holiday weekends. For mid-week or shoulder-season RV camping near Austintown, a week or two of notice is usually fine. Pro tip: watch for site cancellations the Sunday or Monday before a weekend, that's when most no-shows release.

Payment is simple and secure through RVezy, no cash or off-platform transfers needed.
