Campgrounds and RV parks near Barnesville, OH

Barnesville sits in Belmont County in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio, at the edge of the Appalachian plateau. The main draw for RV travelers is nearby Barkcamp State Park, set in Belmont County's rugged hills with a scenic lake as its focal point. The town is a practical base for exploring the Muskingum Watershed lakes to the north and west. Most developed camping in the area falls under two systems. Ohio State Parks runs Barkcamp, while the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) operates campgrounds and marinas at Piedmont Lake and Clendening Lake. The MWCD manages a network of lakes and reservoirs across an 18-county area of eastern Ohio. Private options add more range: Zion Retreat and RV Park offers hookup sites on wooded ground, and smaller local spots such as Sparkman Lake round out the choices. Expect wooded, hilly terrain, quiet two-lane roads, and short drives between water-based campgrounds. Cell coverage can drop off at the more remote lakeshore sites.

Reservation systems vary by operator. Ohio State Parks handles Barkcamp bookings through ReserveAmerica, with reservations available for today and up to 6 months in advance. Most electric sites at Barkcamp can be reserved online; some sites are held for first-come, first-served walk-ups. MWCD campsites and cabins are booked online through the district's reservation portal at reserve.mwcd.org, which covers Piedmont, Clendening, and the other MWCD lakes. The MWCD platform lets travelers view available nights well ahead for any campsite. Quiet hours at Barkcamp are from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM, and a maximum of two vehicles is permitted per site or cabin, with a camping trailer or motorhome counting as one vehicle. Private parks such as Zion Retreat and RV Park book directly through the operator's website.
