Campgrounds and RV parks near Bass Lake, OH

Bass Lake sits in Munson Township in Geauga County, about two miles southwest of Chardon and roughly 27 miles east of downtown Cleveland. The community wraps the northwest shore of a natural 160-acre lake on the Chagrin River, inside Bass Lake Preserve, a 606-acre Geauga Park District property that protects Spring Brook Sanctuary, a state nature preserve. The preserve itself does not offer campsites, so RV travelers base out of parks and private campgrounds within a short drive. The closest full-service option is Punderson State Park, a 741-acre state park with a 150-acre natural lake, campground, lodge, and disc golf, located in Newbury Township just south of Bass Lake. Private options within the area include Maywood Community and Hidden Lakes Family Campground, along with Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA Holiday to the northeast in Ohio's Grand River wine country and Roundup Lake RV Park to the south near Mantua. This places Bass Lake within reach of Lake Erie beaches, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and Amish Country in Middlefield, making it a practical hub for a multi-day Northeast Ohio itinerary.

Punderson State Park uses the ReserveOhio system. Reservations can be made online at reserveohio.com or by phone at 866-644-6727, and are accepted up to six months in advance. Summer weekends and holidays fill early, so book as soon as the six-month window opens if dates are inflexible. Private parks in the area, including Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA Holiday, Roundup Lake RV Park, Hidden Lakes Family Campground, and Maywood Community, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Boating access at Bass Lake Preserve itself is by free permit through Geauga Park District, with only 10 permits issued per day. RVers who find Punderson fully booked can watch for cancellations or shift to a private campground within 15 to 30 minutes of Bass Lake.
