Campgrounds near Bellefontaine, Ohio
Bellefontaine sits in Logan County in west-central Ohio, roughly an hour and a half from both Dayton and Columbus. The highest point in Ohio, Campbell Hill, is within the city limits. The surrounding rolling terrain, small lakes, and the large recreational waters of Indian Lake give RV travelers a compact base with multiple campground options within about a 30-minute drive.
The main draw for campers is Indian Lake, once a shallow feeder lake for the Miami and Erie Canal that became a popular resort area after the canal era, now offering boating, fishing, jet skiing, and swimming. Nearby private options in the input list include Oak Crest Campgrounds, Venture Out Resorts at Indian Lake Resort, Back Forty Ltd, Welcome Woods RV Campgrounds, and Oakdale Campground, which range from full-hookup RV resorts to seasonal-lot properties.
Beyond the lake, the area offers cave attractions, small-town amenities, and easy state-route access, so approaching in a larger rig is straightforward from most directions.
Things to do near Bellefontaine
Water recreation anchors most trips. The 5,800-acre lake offers unlimited horsepower boating and four boat ramps plus boat docks for rental, skiing is popular in the open zone, and Indian Lake is the only inland lake in Ohio with lighted buoys for night navigation. Anglers target saugeye, crappie, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, channel and flathead catfish, and yellow perch.
On shore, the 3.5 mile paved multi-use bikeway runs along the West Bank between Old Field Beach and Lakeview Harbor, and the 1.4-mile Cherokee Trail follows brushy habitat west of the campground while the Pew Island Trail is a .82 mile loop reached by causeway. Two public beaches, Old Field and Fox Island, provide 1,400 feet of lake access.
Off-water options include the Ohio Caverns, the Piatt Castles near West Liberty, and Mad River Mountain ski area, located five miles east of Bellefontaine on U.S. 33.

Peak season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when lake traffic, campground occupancy, and family programming all reach their high point. Campsites can book up fast, especially during peak season and on holiday weekends, and the park gets busy on summer weekends. Weekends and events at Indian Lake fill first, so plan for congestion during the busy stretch.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. The lake lies along a major avian migration route and is an important resting stop for Canada geese, ducks, grebes, swans, egrets, and herons. Fall color along the wooded shoreline typically peaks in mid to late October.
Winter camping is limited but possible. Under the right winter conditions, the park allows snowmobiling, ice skating, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and ice boating, with snowmobiling permitted on the frozen lake surface and along ditches on the west and south sides.

How to book a campsite near Bellefontaine
State park sites at Indian Lake are booked through the ReserveOhio system. Reservations can be made 24/7 online at reserveohio.com or through the reservation call center at (866) 644-6727. Reservations open 6 months prior to the arrival date for campsites and unique getaways, and 12 months prior for cabins and day-use facilities. Campsite inventory releases at 7am six months in advance, so booking as early as possible is important for peak dates.
The minimum stay for regular weekend reservations is 2 nights, and on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends the minimum is 3 nights. Private campgrounds such as Venture Out Resorts at Indian Lake Resort, Welcome Woods RV Campgrounds, Oak Crest Campgrounds, Back Forty Ltd, and Oakdale Campground each handle their own bookings directly, typically by phone or through their own websites.
What to expect on the ground
Sites at Indian Lake State Park are built for larger rigs. The campground accommodates RVs up to 50 feet with electric hookups available throughout, though some sites require creative maneuvering on narrow roads. Forty-three campsites offer full hookups with water, sewer, and electric, while another 360 sites provide electric hookups, and amenities include showers, restrooms, and a dump station. The scenic campground also includes heated shower houses, flush toilets, a laundry facility, and a camp commissary.
Ohio does not have an annual pass and does not charge entrance fees to state parks. The maximum time any person may stay overnight in a designated state park campground shall not exceed 14 days in any 30-day period.
Private parks in the Indian Lake area lean toward seasonal-lot layouts with full hookups, playgrounds, and event calendars, so day-to-day nightly availability can be tighter than at the state park.

June and July bring the busiest weekends, including the popular Christmas in July celebration at the lake, while September delivers warm days, fewer crowds, and lower nightly rates. You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Bellefontaine includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical failures. One phone call dispatches help, whether you're on US-33, parked at Indian Lake State Park, or exploring back roads near Zane Shawnee Caverns. Popular routes include Bellefontaine to Mammoth Cave, KY (about 5 hours), or up to Sleeping Bear Dunes, MI (about 6 hours). Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed with advance approval from your host and confirmation of insurance coverage, so message them before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend south of the border. Confirm your route with the host, then enjoy your multi-state adventure.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on a Bellefontaine RV trip?
Fuel is the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes around Bellefontaine get 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans hit 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG). Ohio gas prices usually run a bit below the national average, and you'll find convenient fill-ups at Love's Travel Stop on US-33 and Sheetz in town. For a 4-day trip with 300 miles of driving, budget roughly $120 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: top off in Bellefontaine before heading to the lake, since prices climb at smaller stations near Russells Point.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campsite near Bellefontaine?
Book early, especially for summer. Indian Lake State Park opens reservations six months in advance at 7 a.m. through ReserveOhio.com (the official Ohio Department of Natural Resources system), and prime waterfront sites for July weekends often book within minutes of release. For Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, lock in your spot the same day the window opens. Shoulder-season trips in May, September, and October are much easier and you can often book just a few weeks out. Private parks like Zane Shawnee Caverns and Indian Lake Adventures take reservations by phone and tend to have more late availability.
reserveohio.com/What are the driving conditions like around Bellefontaine?
Driving an RV in Bellefontaine is refreshingly low-stress. US-33 is a divided four-lane highway connecting Bellefontaine to Columbus, with wide shoulders and easy on/off ramps. State Route 33 around Indian Lake is two-lane but gently rolling, with no steep grades, since you're in west-central Ohio's gently rolling farmland. Fun fact: Campbell Hill, just east of Bellefontaine at 1,549 feet, is the highest point in Ohio, but you'll barely feel the climb. Watch for slow-moving farm equipment in spring and fall, deer at dawn and dusk, and occasional summer thunderstorms. Winter can bring lake-effect snow near Indian Lake, so check forecasts December through March.

For dumping and water on the go, Love's Travel Stop on US-33 in Bellefontaine has an RV dump station and freshwater fill. Pro tip: pick up firewood at the Indian Lake camp store rather than bringing it from home (Ohio rules discourage moving firewood).
parks.ohiodnr.gov/parks-and-trails/indian-lakeWhat will the RV itself come equipped with?

Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable beds (queen bedrooms are standard in Class C and travel trailers), dinette seating, air conditioning, furnace heat, and an awning. Delivery and setup is the most-loved add-on, with fees typically based on distance from the host's location. Pickup and drop-off times are set by each host and shown on the listing, and most hosts offer 100 to 150 free miles per night with a small per-mile fee beyond that. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure, all handled through the RVezy platform (never in cash with the host). When you book your RV rental in Ohio, you'll pay the rental cost, taxes, service fees, and chosen protection package up front by credit or debit card. A separate security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after a clean return, separate from the booking payment. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with the host at pickup and drop-off so everyone is on the same page, and you'll breeze through deposit return after your Indian Lake getaway.
