Berlin camping overview
Berlin sits in Holmes County at the center of Ohio's Amish Country, one of the largest Amish settlements in the world. The village works well as an RV base: State Route 39 runs straight through town, most private campgrounds cluster within a few miles of the main strip, and side trips to Walnut Creek, Charm, Sugarcreek, and Millersburg are all short drives on paved state routes.
Campgrounds in the area are almost entirely privately owned RV parks rather than state or federal sites. Scenic Hills RV Park and Berlin RV Park and Campground Ltd sit closest to the village, both offering full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service. Timbercrest Camp and RV Park, Amish Country Campsites, and Evergreen Park RV Resort Ltd extend the options into the surrounding countryside near Winesburg, Walnut Creek, and Sugarcreek.
Renters should note the terrain. Holmes County is genuinely hilly, and narrow gravel county roads are common. Sticking to state routes when towing or driving a Class A is strongly recommended.
Things to do near Berlin
Most trips center on Amish Country attractions within a fifteen-minute drive of camp. Downtown Berlin has shops, bakeries, quilt stores, and the Behalt cyclorama at the Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center. Walnut Creek and Sugarcreek add cheese houses, furniture makers, and the Age of Steam Roundhouse. Families often build a day around Hershberger's Farm and Bakery, which has buggy rides and a petting zoo.
For outdoor time, Mohican State Park is about forty-five minutes southwest and offers hiking, canoeing on the Mohican River, and a covered bridge loop. Lake Erie beaches and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton are each roughly an hour away, making Berlin a workable base for regional day trips.

The main camping season runs April through October, and most private RV parks in Holmes County follow that window. Scenic Hills RV Park, for example, operates from April 1 through November 1 and closes for winter. Renters planning a shoulder-season trip should confirm dates directly with the campground before booking.
Late spring and early fall are the strongest windows for weather and crowds. May and June bring green countryside and moderate temperatures, though June is also the wettest month of the year in this part of Ohio. July and August are warm and humid, and weekends in peak summer fill early because Amish Country draws heavy driving-tourism traffic from Cleveland, Columbus, Pittsburgh, and Detroit.
September and October are widely considered the best months. Foliage typically peaks mid-to-late October, and fall festivals in Sugarcreek and Walnut Creek drive strong weekend demand. Winter camping options are extremely limited and snow is common from December through March.

We used the camper for a camping trip over a weekend. The camper was clean and spacious for us and our 3 kids. We had an issue with the air conditioner. When asked about the issue was promptly addressed.

How to book campgrounds near Berlin
Campgrounds around Berlin are privately operated, so there is no single unified reservation system like Recreation.gov. Each park handles bookings independently, most through their own website or by phone. Scenic Hills RV Park, for instance, accepts cash or check only and asks guests to settle the bill before leaving, so travelers should confirm payment policy in advance.
For peak dates, especially fall foliage weekends in October and any Saturday from Memorial Day through Labor Day, sites should be booked several months out. Weekday stays and shoulder-season nights are generally easier to secure. Pull-through sites with full hookups and 50 amp service are the most competitive inventory, so request them at the time of booking rather than at arrival.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a rural, quiet setting with rolling farmland, working Amish farms, and horse-and-buggy traffic on local roads. Cell service and data speeds can be inconsistent in the hollows between ridges, though most parks provide Wi-Fi at the office or clubhouse. Many area businesses are closed on Sundays, and some Amish-owned shops and restaurants do not accept credit cards.
Sites at parks like Scenic Hills RV Park tend to be open and sunny with limited shade, while Berlin RV Park and Campground Ltd and Amish Country Campsites offer more wooded surroundings. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service are standard at the parks listed here. Pets are generally welcome on leash, but confirm breed and count restrictions with each campground before arrival.

On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275, and larger Class A coaches run $250 to $400. Because Berlin sits in Holmes County's quieter rural pocket, you'll often find better nightly rates than in Cleveland or Columbus. Pro tip: many hosts offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, which adds up fast if you're staying to explore Sugarcreek, Walnut Creek, and Millersburg at a relaxed pace.
visitamishcountry.com/What license do I need to rent an RV in Berlin, OH?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Berlin, OH. Ohio does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every rental on RVezy. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and we'll verify your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country license. That's it. Most guests are surprised how simple it is to rent an RV in Ohio and hit the road toward Berlin's rolling hills.
bmv.ohio.gov/dl-id-cards.aspxIs my RV rental in Berlin, OH protected if something goes wrong?
Absolutely, peace of mind comes standard. Every RV rental in Berlin, OH booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pick up the keys. You can choose from several protection levels at checkout based on how much coverage you want, and each plan covers eligible damage to the RV during your trip. Whether you scrape a mirror on a narrow Holmes County back road or run into mechanical trouble outside Millersburg, you have real financial protection in place. Booking confidently means you can focus on the buggies, bakeries, and back roads, not the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Berlin, OH RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy to every reservation, so refund terms are set by RVezy, not by individual hosts, and the policy is the same across every listing. The amount refunded depends on how far in advance you cancel before your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy works with you to provide a full refund or rebooking credit so your Berlin RV trip stays on track. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for Amish Country's busy fall foliage season, knowing the cancellation terms are transparent if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Berlin, OH?
Yes, your dog is welcome on the adventure. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Berlin, OH, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching on RVezy and you will see rigs whose hosts welcome four-legged guests. Holmes County is a great place to travel with pets, with scenic back roads, leashed-dog-friendly outdoor shopping areas in Berlin and Walnut Creek, and nearby hiking at Mohican State Park (about 45 minutes south) where leashed pets are welcome on trails. Scenic Hills RV Park near Berlin also allows pets at most sites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and bring a portable water bowl for warm afternoons.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/mohican-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground or rental house in Berlin, OH?
Yes, and it is a game-changer for first-timers. RV delivery in Berlin, OH is offered by many RVezy hosts, meaning they will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to your campsite, vacation rental, or even a friend's driveway in Holmes County. They will level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. This is ideal if you are nervous about towing on the winding hills of State Route 39 or sharing the road with Amish buggies on County Road 77. Popular delivery spots include Scenic Hills RV Park and private cabins around Walnut Creek and Berlin. Pro tip: filter for delivery-available listings on RVezy and confirm the delivery fee with your host before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Berlin%2C+OhioHow far can I drive on a typical RV rental from Berlin, OH?
You have plenty of range to explore. Most hosts on RVezy include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) with reasonable per-mile rates beyond that, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for an added flat fee. From Berlin, you can easily reach Cleveland (about 90 miles north), Columbus (about 100 miles southwest), Pittsburgh (about 130 miles east), and Lake Erie's Marblehead Lighthouse (about 130 miles north) without burning through your allowance. For a longer RV road trip from Berlin, OH, Niagara Falls is about 290 miles northeast. Pro tip: if you are planning multiple day trips, ask your host about a custom mileage package upfront, it is almost always cheaper than paying per-mile overages later.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Berlin%2C+OhioWhere are the best campgrounds near Berlin, OH?
You're spoiled for choice in Amish Country. The best campgrounds near Berlin, OH include Scenic Hills RV Park (right in Berlin with full hookups and a pond), Berlin Village RV Park (walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants), Whispering Hills Recreation in Shreve (about 20 minutes away with a lake and family activities), and Mohican Adventures Campground near Loudonville (great for paddling the Mohican River). For state-park camping, Mohican State Park has electric sites tucked among hemlock forests. Pro tip: book Scenic Hills and Berlin Village at least 2 to 3 months ahead for fall weekends in October, when leaf peepers and Amish Country tourists fill every site.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/mohican-state-parkWhen is the best time to visit Berlin, OH in an RV?
Honestly, Berlin is a four-season destination with a sweet spot in late September through mid-October. Fall foliage in Holmes County is spectacular, with daytime highs in the 60s°F and crisp 40s°F nights, perfect RV weather. Spring (late April to May) brings blooming dogwoods, mild 60 to 70°F days, and fewer crowds. Summer runs warm and humid (highs 80 to 85°F) and is great for swimming at nearby lakes. Winter dips into the 20s and 30s°F with occasional snow, but cozy heated RVs make holiday markets and Amish bakery tours magical. Pro tip: avoid the first two weekends of October if you dislike crowds, that's peak leaf-peeping in Amish Country.
weather.gov/cle/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Berlin, OH?
You'll do great, and you're not alone. Most renters are first-timers, and every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, hookups, slide-outs, and all the systems so you leave feeling confident. Berlin's roads are actually beginner-friendly compared to big cities: low traffic, wide rural routes like US-62 and State Route 39, and slow speed limits. The main thing to watch for is horse-drawn Amish buggies, which travel 5 to 8 mph, so pass slowly and only where lines allow. Pro tip: if you're truly nervous, book a smaller Class B campervan rental in Berlin or have your host deliver a travel trailer to your campsite so you skip driving altogether.
transportation.ohio.gov/programs/share-the-road/buggy-safetyWhat happens if I break down during my Berlin, OH RV trip?
You are never stranded. Every RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so one phone call gets help dispatched whether you are parked in Berlin, cruising US-62, or exploring back roads near Charm and Sugarcreek. Roadside covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and fuel delivery. Your host is also typically just a text away for quick troubleshooting questions about the rig. Holmes County has reliable cell service along main routes, though some hollows have spotty coverage. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pulling out of the driveway, and keep your host's contact pinned in your texts for fast answers.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Berlin, OH RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Cross-state travel is generally a yes with a quick conversation first. Most RVezy hosts in Berlin, OH allow you to travel freely throughout the continental United States, so a road trip to Pennsylvania Dutch Country, Niagara Falls, the Smoky Mountains, or the Outer Banks is very doable. For Canada, many hosts will approve trips with advance notice so insurance can be verified, just message them before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular cross-border routes from Berlin include heading north through Erie, PA to Niagara Falls (about 5 hours) or east into Lancaster County, PA's Amish Country (about 6 hours). Pro tip: ask early so paperwork is sorted well before pickup day.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for an RV trip from Berlin, OH?
Let's set realistic expectations so there are no surprises. Class B campervans get the best mileage at 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 mpg, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg combined), and big Class A coaches run 7 to 10 mpg. Ohio gas prices typically run slightly below the national average, and Berlin has convenient fuel stops at the Marathon and Circle K on US-62. For a 4-day, 300-mile loop through Amish Country in a Class C, budget around $120 to $160 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Millersburg or Wooster before heading into back-road country, smaller Amish-area stations sometimes close early on Saturdays and all day Sundays.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Berlin, OH?
Earlier is always better, especially for fall. For Scenic Hills RV Park and Berlin Village RV Park in Berlin proper, book 2 to 4 months ahead for any weekend from May through October, and as much as 6 months out for prime fall foliage weekends in early-to-mid October. Mohican State Park reservations open six months in advance through the ReserveOhio system and prime summer weekends fill the first day. Private campgrounds like Whispering Hills can sometimes accommodate last-minute midweek bookings even in summer. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, target Sunday through Thursday arrivals, you'll often save 20 percent and have your pick of premium pull-through sites for your RV camping Berlin getaway.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/mohican-state-parkWhat are the driving conditions like around Berlin, OH?
Berlin's driving is scenic and manageable with one signature quirk: Amish horse-and-buggy traffic. Roads like State Route 39, US-62, and County Road 77 are well-maintained two-lane routes with gentle hills, no mountain passes, and very little congestion. Buggies travel 5 to 8 mph and stay to the right, so pass only on straight stretches with clear sightlines. Watch for buggy-crossing signs and slow-moving vehicle triangles, especially at dawn, dusk, and Sundays when Amish families travel to church. Winter can bring lake-effect snow squalls, so check forecasts from November through March. Pro tip: download offline Google Maps for your motorhome rental in Berlin since GPS signal drops in some of the prettiest back-road valleys.
weather.gov/cle/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Berlin, OH?
You'll have everything you need to stay comfortable. Most campgrounds near Berlin offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), with Scenic Hills RV Park and Berlin Village RV Park providing all three at most sites plus Wi-Fi and laundry. Whispering Hills Recreation adds a swimming lake, mini-golf, and a camp store. For dumping and fresh water on travel days, Scenic Hills offers a public dump station for a small fee, and Love's Travel Stop in Lodi (about 40 minutes north on I-71) has 24-hour RV services. State parks like Mohican offer electric-only sites with a centralized dump station. Pro tip: stock up on groceries in Millersburg at Walmart or Save-A-Lot before checking in, in-town options near campgrounds are limited.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/mohican-state-parkWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Berlin, OH?
More comfort than you'd expect. Most rentals come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, a kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, dinette seating that converts to extra sleeping space, air conditioning, furnace heat, and a TV. Class C motorhome rentals in Berlin typically sleep 4 to 6, travel trailers 4 to 8, and larger Class A coaches up to 8. Many hosts include linens, kitchenware, outdoor chairs, and a starter pack of campfire essentials. Wi-Fi and generators are often available as add-ons, and most rigs have seatbelts for all listed sleeping capacities. Pro tip: read the listing's amenities section closely, and message your host about anything specific (like a coffee maker or grill) before you pack.
rvia.org/What add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Berlin, OH?
Hosts make it easy to customize. Popular add-ons for an RV rental Ohio trip include delivery and setup ($1 to $3 per mile is common), generator use ($3 to $5 per hour), bike racks, kayak racks, propane refills, linen and kitchen kits ($50 to $100 flat), and pet fees ($25 to $75 per trip). Pickup is usually at the host's driveway in or near Berlin, Sugarcreek, or Millersburg, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation included. Standard mileage policies run 100 to 150 miles per day with unlimited-mileage options available on many listings for a flat upgrade. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a linen kit for your first trip, you'll roll into your campsite with zero setup stress and start exploring Berlin within an hour.
visitamishcountry.com/How does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Berlin, OH?
Payment is simple, secure, and handled entirely through RVezy. You pay for your booking with a credit or debit card through the platform, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip, assuming no damages or policy violations like smoking inside the RV. There are no surprise cash demands at pickup. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with your host before driving off and another at drop-off, this 5-minute habit protects your deposit and is the easiest way to wrap up your Berlin, OH RV trip with a smooth refund.
