Campgrounds and RV parks near Cairo, OH

Water activity is the main draw. Gilboa Quarry RV Park & Campground opens a former limestone quarry to scuba diving, freediving, snorkeling, and paddle sports, with underwater attractions that include a sunken Grumman airplane, a Sikorsky helicopter, and a school bus. The shallow side runs to about sixty feet, the deep side to about one hundred forty feet. Families staying at Wapakoneta KOA Holiday are minutes from the Armstrong Air & Space Museum, which holds the Gemini VIII spacecraft, an Apollo 11 moon rock, and two of Neil Armstrong's spacesuits. Downtown Wapakoneta adds free stops like the Neil Armstrong statue and the Temple of Tolerance. Lake fishing, farm markets, and the Allen County Museum in Lima round out the options.

The core RV season in northwest Ohio runs late April through October. Summer brings warm, humid days with highs in the low eighties Fahrenheit and the longest daylight for lake time and evening cookouts. May is typically the wettest month in the Lima area, and afternoon thunderstorms remain common through summer. Spring and fall are quieter. Layered clothing is useful because daytime and overnight temperatures can swing widely. Fall color peaks in mid to late October, and weekends in that window book up first at both private parks and Ohio State Park campgrounds. Winter is cold and snowy, with average January highs in the mid thirties and overnight lows near twenty. Most Ohio State Park campgrounds reduce sites and amenities from November through March. Gilboa Quarry stays open for year-round diving, including ice diving with proper certification, and private RV parks near Cairo vary, so confirm operating dates before arrival.

Terrain around Cairo is flat and rural, with easy road access for larger rigs. Most private campgrounds in the area offer standard back-in and pull-through sites with electric, water, and sewer options, plus a dump station. Cell coverage is generally good along the I-75 corridor and thinner on backroads. Ohio State Park campsites typically include a parking pad, picnic table, and fire ring. Amenities differ by park, ranging from primitive tent sites to full-hookup pads with modern showerhouses and camp stores. Weekend minimums apply at state park sites: two nights on regular weekends and three nights on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Pets are allowed at many campsites, but rules on leashes, breeds, and extra fees vary, so check each park before arrival.
