Campgrounds near Coldwater, Ohio
Coldwater sits in Mercer County in western Ohio, a short drive from the state's largest inland lake and a cluster of canal-era reservoirs that anchor most of the region's camping. Rossburg Acres Campground is a family-run private park in Darke County with RV sites, stocked ponds, and a beach area. For state-park camping, Grand Lake St. Marys State Park lies just east of Coldwater on the shores of a 13,500-acre reservoir, and Lake Loramie State Park sits roughly 15 miles southeast.
Smaller private grounds round out the choices. Easy Campground and Fox Lake Campground offer additional bookable RV sites within an easy drive of town. The surrounding landscape is flat farmland cut by canals and reservoirs, so most campgrounds sit lakeside or pond-side rather than in deep woods.
Combined, these properties give RV travelers a mix of full-hookup, electric-only, and non-electric sites, plus rustic cabins at the state parks. Reservations run through ReserveOhio for the state parks and directly with each private operator for the rest.
Things to do near Coldwater
Water recreation dominates the area. Grand Lake St. Marys covers 13,500 acres and offers 52 miles of shoreline for boating and fishing, though swimming in the lake itself is prohibited due to water-quality concerns; the state park campground has its own pool and splash pad. Lake Loramie covers 1,655 acres and is classified as no-wake outside a designated speed zone at the west end, with water skiing and tubing prohibited.
Anglers target crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, bullheads, and largemouth bass at Lake Loramie, with four fishing piers around the park. Lake Loramie also features an 18-hole disc golf course. Families staying at Rossburg Acres Campground can use its stocked ponds, sand volleyball, pickleball, mini golf, and Saturday-night outdoor movies. Eldora Speedway, a well-known dirt track, is a short drive from Rossburg.

Western Ohio has a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The main RV season runs from late April through October, with July and August the busiest for lakeside sites and holiday weekends filling first.
Grand Lake St. Marys State Park Campground operates year-round, with an off-peak season from November 1 to April 1 when only the first loop has electric service and a water hydrant near the main office is available. Lake Loramie State Park's campground is a modern facility with full hook-up, electric, and non-electric sites plus cedar cabins. Both parks add ice fishing, sledding, and other cold-weather activities in winter, and Lake Loramie also offers snowmobiling.
Spring can be wet, and mosquito activity ramps up in early summer, so many regulars target late summer and fall. Fall brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier reservation availability, though harmful algal bloom advisories on Grand Lake St. Marys have been an issue in past summers and are worth checking before a trip.
How to book
Ohio state park sites at Grand Lake St. Marys State Park and Lake Loramie State Park are reserved through ReserveOhio, up to six months in advance, either online or by calling 866-644-6727.
Rossburg Acres Campground takes reservations through its RoverPass system linked from rossburgacres.com, by phone, or by email. Camping there is by reservation only. Its 110 seasonal sites are typically full, so short-term visitors should target the 36 temporary sites, which offer 30- or 50-amp service, water, a picnic table, and a fire ring.
For summer weekends and holidays, book state-park lakeside and full-hookup sites as soon as the six-month window opens. Private parks such as Easy Campground and Fox Lake Campground book directly with the operator; call ahead to confirm rig-length limits and hookup type.
What to expect on the ground
Sites at Grand Lake St. Marys State Park Campground are paved with a mix of pull-through and back-in configurations. The campground has around 200 sites, including 148 electric, 33 full-hookup, and 10 standard non-electric, plus seven rustic cabins. Reviewers note that pull-through sites work best for rigs under 35 feet if towing a vehicle. Modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, a camp store, a dump station, and a swimming pool with splash pad are on site.
Lake Loramie State Park Campground has 42 full-hookup sites (four lakeside), 120 electric sites (40 of them premium waterfront electric-only), and non-electric options, plus three ADA-compliant cedar cabins. Rossburg Acres and other private grounds tend to have a family-resort feel, with playgrounds, sport courts, and organized weekend activities.
