Campgrounds and RV parks near Curtice, OH

The main draws are on the water. Maumee Bay State Park has a Lake Erie swimming beach, a 57-acre inland lake for non-motorized boating, a nature center, an accessible boardwalk trail, and roughly five miles of paved bike and pedestrian paths connecting the campground to day-use areas. Birders come for the marshes: more than 300 species have been recorded in the park, and the western Lake Erie basin is a major flyway during spring and fall migration. Toledo, about twenty minutes west, adds the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium, the Toledo Museum of Art, Mud Hens minor-league baseball, and Fort Meigs, a War of 1812 site. Anglers target walleye and yellow perch on Lake Erie; charters operate out of marinas in Oregon, Curtice, and Port Clinton.

Peak RV season on the western Lake Erie shore runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with July and August drawing the heaviest bookings. Maumee Bay State Park opens reservations six months in advance, and prime summer weekends are typically claimed within days of the booking window opening. Weekday arrivals see much better availability than weekends. Late spring and early fall are the sweet spot for RV travellers who want cooler weather, fewer bugs, and open sites. May brings warbler migration and blooming wetlands; September and October offer comfortable days, cool nights, and strong walleye fishing. Fall foliage in the region peaks in mid to late October. Winter camping is possible at Maumee Bay State Park, which stays open year-round, but shower houses close from November 1 through April 30, and only two heated family restrooms with showers remain in service. Water is shut off at full-hookup sites during freezing months. Private parks in the area generally close for the season by late October and reopen in April or May.

Sites at Maumee Bay State Park are open and spacious with paved pads, and shrub hedges provide some privacy between neighbours. The campground has 256 sites; 20 (numbered 1-11 and 21-29) offer full hookups, and the rest are electric-only with 20/30/50-amp service and water available at central fill stations. Trees can interfere with satellite reception at some sites. Natural shade is limited on many loops, so awnings and sunscreen are worth packing. Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey is a wooded park with pull-thru full-hookup sites, cable at hookup sites, a seasonal pool, a playground, and a dog area. Expect some highway noise given its interstate location. Cell service from the major U.S. carriers is generally reliable across the Curtice area, and grocery, propane, and dump-station access is available in Oregon and Northwood, both a short drive from most campgrounds.
