Campgrounds and RV parks near Cygnet, OH

Van Buren State Park anchors outdoor activity in the area. The park has Van Buren Lake for fishing and kayaking, multi-use trails for hiking and biking, an equestrian day-use area with four bridle trails totaling roughly 12 miles, and disc golf. Van Buren State Park Campground also has an amphitheater and playground on site. Along the Maumee River to the north, Mary Jane Thurston State Park offers stream fishing for walleye, smallmouth bass and catfish, an archery range with static and 3-D targets, a free 18-hole disc golf course, a 96-slip marina, and short trails including a segment of the Buckeye Trail that continues into the village of Grand Rapids. At Adventure Bound Pleasant View, on-site amenities include a swimming pool, a fishing pond, the Aqua Fun Zone inflatable water park, a jumping pillow, mini golf and a dog park, which keeps families busy without leaving the resort.

The main camping season in northwest Ohio runs from mid-April through late October. Van Buren State Park now accepts reservations year-round following its recent full-hookup upgrade, and Mary Jane Thurston State Park Campground also operates year-round, though its flush restrooms close in winter and a portable toilet is provided in their place. Adventure Bound Pleasant View runs a seasonal schedule tied to warm-weather demand. Summer weekends, especially around Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, book out first at Van Buren and at the private resorts. Full-hookup sites at Van Buren tend to fill first now that every site has water, electric and sewer service. Weekend two-night minimums are common in peak season. Spring brings heavy rain and higher river levels along the Maumee, which can affect low-lying sites at Mary Jane Thurston. Fall offers cooler nights, thinner crowds and strong color along the river corridor. Winter camping is possible at both state parks, but expect pit toilets, no showers, and limited services.

Terrain around Cygnet is flat and easy to tow through. I-75, US-6, and State Route 65 provide straightforward access for larger rigs, and both state parks are easy to reach from the interstate. Van Buren State Park now has full water, electric and sewer hookups at all sites after its recent ODNR upgrade, but does not have showers or flush toilets. Mary Jane Thurston State Park Campground has a mix of electric and non-electric sites, a dump station near the park office, and showers available at the adjacent marina. Sites along the river are prized; sites nearer State Route 65 can pick up road noise. Cell coverage is generally reliable near I-75 and thinner along the river bottoms. Mosquitoes, ticks and poison ivy are present through the warm months, so pack repellent and check pets after trail time.
