Campgrounds and RV parks near Dover, OH

Dover's headline attraction is the Ernest Warther Museum and Gardens, which celebrates the life and artistry of master woodcarver Ernest Mooney Warther. Visitors can explore his workshop, view detailed locomotive carvings, and see the button collection assembled by his wife Freida. History sites cluster nearby. The Dennison Railroad Depot Museum and Historic Zoar Village are National Historic Landmarks, and Historic Schoenbrunn Village marks the site of Ohio's first Christian settlement, church, and school. Fort Laurens, Ohio's only Revolutionary War fort, lies just to the north. Tuscarawas County also serves as an entry point to Ohio's Amish Country in Holmes County, with markets, cheese houses, and buggy traffic on rural roads. On the water, Atwood Lake supports sailing, kayaking, and fishing, and the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail offers flat walking and cycling near Zoar.

The Dover area has a four-season humid continental climate. Summers are warm and humid, winters are cold and snowy, and skies are partly cloudy year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from around 21 degrees F to 83 degrees F, and is rarely below 4 degrees F or above 90 degrees F. Peak RV season runs from late May through early October, when most private campgrounds are fully open and lake water levels are steady. June tends to be the wettest month, and afternoon thunderstorms are common through midsummer. Dover averages roughly 1,060 mm of precipitation annually, with June receiving about 146 mm across many rainy days, while November is the driest month at around 62 mm. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid to late October across the Appalachian foothills. Winter camping is limited. Many private and MWCD sites close or reduce services from late fall through spring, though a small number of KOA cabins and year-round parks remain available for short cold-weather stays.

Terrain around Dover is hilly and wooded, with narrow county roads leading to many campgrounds. Larger Class A rigs should confirm site length and turning radius before booking, particularly at lake and scout-camp properties where roads can be tight. Full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi are standard at KOA and lake-park RV loops. Atwood Lake Park Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist offers a mix of waterfront sites and wooded sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. Its Area H features 142 full hook-up sites with concrete pads, 50-amp service, a playground, and shower and restroom facilities with laundry. Expect a family-oriented atmosphere, enforced quiet hours at public parks, leashed-pet rules, and firewood available on site at most locations. Cell coverage is generally reliable near I-77 but can drop in wooded valleys.
