Campgrounds and RV parks near Elyria, OH

Water is the main draw. Riverview RV Park and Marina offers riverfront sites and marina campsites, with the Vermilion River providing swimming in summer and the marina giving direct access for boating and fishing. At Findley State Park, boating with electric motors only is permitted on the 93-acre lake, two launch ramps provide access, and canoes, rowboats, and paddleboats can be rented at the marina. Hikers and cyclists have options too. Roughly ten miles of hiking trails at Findley State Park, including a connection to the statewide Buckeye Trail, allow visitors to explore varied habitats, and the park also has a disc golf course. For a Cleveland day trip, Grafton-based sites sit within reach of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Blossom Music Center, and Cleveland sports venues. Cedar Point in Sandusky is about an hour west.

Camping season around Elyria is tightly seasonal. American Wilderness Campground typically runs late April through mid-October, Timber Ridge Campground operates roughly mid-April through mid-October, Riverview RV Park and Marina opens for the warm-weather months, and Pier-Lon Park runs a similar April-to-late-October season. Findley State Park's campground stays open year-round, though most services scale back outside the warm months. Summer is peak. School-break weekends, especially Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, fill quickly, and holiday weekends at Findley State Park often need to be booked up to six months in advance. Spring and fall bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and better site availability, with fall color usually strongest in mid- to late October. Winters are freezing, snowy, windy, and mostly cloudy, and lake-effect snow off Lake Erie can drop travel conditions quickly. RV renters visiting outside the warm season should confirm hookups, water service, and road access before booking.

Sites in the area lean toward classic Midwest RV parks: level pads, mature trees, and a mix of transient and seasonal campers. American Wilderness Campground offers large RV sites with pull-thru and back-in options and some full-hookup sites, plus a camp store, shower house, and laundry. Timber Ridge Campground features shaded, full-hookup 50 and 30-amp sites that are big-rig friendly and many accommodate slide-outs, with free WiFi, pet-friendly policies, and a dump station. Findley State Park is different. Its campground offers 272 non-electric sites in sunny and shaded areas, with showers, flush toilets, laundry facilities, a dump station, a game room, and a fully stocked camp store, so RV renters relying on hookups should plan for generator or battery use or pick a full-hookup private park instead.
