Camping near Franklin, Ohio
Franklin sits in southwest Ohio along the Great Miami River, roughly halfway between Dayton and Cincinnati and within easy reach of Kings Island, Wright-Patterson attractions, and Caesar Creek Lake. The location makes it a practical base for RV travelers who want family attractions during the day and a campsite within a short drive at night.
Options close to town skew toward private RV parks and small farm stays. Rye Camp and Oak & Ember Farms lean rural and low-key, while Camp Cedar RV Resort and Off The Hook Campground provide larger amenity sets suited to families. Lebanon / Cincinnati NE KOA Holiday offers the standard KOA package of full hookups, cabins, and organized activities.
Public camping is a short drive east at Caesar Creek State Park, near Waynesville, which is managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources on a lake built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. That mix of private resorts and a nearby state-park campground gives renters flexibility across weekend trips, theme-park stays, and longer loops through the region.
Things to do near Franklin
Kings Island in Mason is about twenty miles from Franklin and drives much of the summer camping demand in the area, with roller coasters, a water park, and family rides. Camp Cedar RV Resort is oriented toward that traffic and works well for multi-day theme-park trips.
Caesar Creek State Park anchors the outdoor side of a trip. The lake covers 2,830 acres with unlimited-horsepower boating, a 1,300-foot main swimming beach, and a designated fossil-collection zone where small finds may be kept. Miles of hiking, mountain-biking, bridle, and archery trails run through the park, and the Pioneer Village and nature center add rainy-day options.
Closer to Dayton, the National Museum of the United States Air Force and Carillon Historical Park round out the itinerary.

The prime RV window in southwest Ohio runs from late April through mid-October. Summer is warm and humid with average highs in the mid-80s Fahrenheit, and it drives the heaviest bookings, especially weekends aligned with Kings Island operating days. Private parks near the amusement park fill early for holiday weekends, so sites should be locked in well ahead.
Spring and fall bring cooler nights, lighter crowds, and reliable trail conditions. May is typically the wettest month of the year, so expect muddy sites and occasional thunderstorms. September and October generally deliver the most comfortable mix of drier days and fall color along Caesar Creek and the Little Miami corridor.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Caesar Creek State Park stays open year-round, though facilities are reduced from November through March when the campground is winterized and water is shut off. Several private parks in the area close or run on shortened seasons during the same window.

Highly recommend 15/10 rating here. Clean and ready to go upon the agreed time and extremely flexible for my rental return considering I hit a traffic jam for 4 hours. Will be renting again from him alone when my personal goes down.

How to book
Ohio State Parks, including Caesar Creek, use the ReserveOhio system. Sites at Caesar Creek State Park Campground open for reservation six months in advance online at reserveohio.com or by phone at 866-644-6727, and reservations are required before setting up on a site. The campground has 287 sites with electric service, including 35 full-hookup sites, with paved pads that can accommodate rigs up to about 40 feet.
Private campgrounds each run their own booking. Lebanon / Cincinnati NE KOA Holiday takes reservations through koa.com and the KOA app, while Camp Cedar RV Resort, Off The Hook Campground, Rye Camp, and Oak & Ember Farms book directly through their own sites. For summer weekends near Kings Island, reserve two to three months out and confirm rig-length limits before arrival.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Franklin is gently rolling farmland cut by the Great Miami River, so most sites are level and easy to pull into. Sites at Caesar Creek State Park are generously sized on paved pads, with a mix of shady and partially shady spots across the six loops.
Cell service is generally strong across the region on all major carriers. Private parks near the interstates tend to offer Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and dump stations, while smaller farm-style stays like Oak & Ember Farms trade amenities for quiet and space.
Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall, and summer thunderstorms can move through quickly. Firewood should be bought locally to avoid moving pests, and the Caesar Creek check-in store sells bundles along with ice and basic supplies.
