Camping near Glouster, Ohio
Glouster sits in the wooded hills of Athens and Morgan counties in southeast Ohio, at the edge of one of the state's largest concentrations of public land. The surrounding terrain is Appalachian foothills, with forested ridges and hollows that form a distinct contrast to the flatter farmland of central and western Ohio. The village is the closest town to Burr Oak State Park and lies within an easy drive of Strouds Run State Park near Athens and the Wayne National Forest OHV country around New Straitsville.
RV travelers use Glouster as a base for lake-focused camping and hill-country trail riding. Main - Burr Oak State Park sits on Burr Oak Lake with a mix of mostly non-electric sites and a smaller electric loop, showers, flush toilets and a dump station, plus additional primitive sites at two of the lake's boat docks. Nearby options include Burr Oak Family Resort, Strouds Run State Park, Begleys ATV Campground and Under The Stars Campground.
Wayne National Forest surrounds much of the area, and the U.S. Forest Service also operates a small primitive campground at Burr Oak Cove on the west side of the lake.
Things to do around Glouster
Water and trails dominate the itinerary. Main - Burr Oak State Park puts campers within reach of an extensive trail network, including a long backpack trail that circles Burr Oak Lake, plus fishing, boating and swimming on the reservoir. Boats are limited to a 10-horsepower motor cap, which keeps the lake quiet for paddlers and anglers.
At Strouds Run State Park, families use Dow Lake for swimming, fishing and non-motorized boating from a designated beach just below the campground. The park maintains an extensive trail system popular with hikers and mountain bikers, with routes that climb the ridges above Athens.
OHV riders head to Begleys ATV Campground in New Straitsville, which has direct access to the Monday Creek OHV Trail System in Wayne National Forest, roughly 75 miles of designated trails for off-highway vehicles, mountain bikers and hikers.

Camping season runs heaviest from late spring through fall. At Strouds Run, in-season rates apply April 1 through the first Sunday in December, with off-season camping available at reduced rates. Burr Oak's main campground stays open year-round, though showers and Rent-A-Camp units are geared to warmer months. In Wayne National Forest, the Monday Creek OHV trails are seasonally closed to off-highway vehicle and mountain bike use from winter to early spring, with the riding season generally running mid-April through mid-December.
Spring brings wildflowers and higher water, but trails can be muddy. Summer is peak: lake use is highest, weekends fill early, and biting insects are common in the hollows. Fall brings the region's strongest color, with hardwoods turning across the ridges through October. Deer gun season in late November affects hunting-permitted areas, and campers should check park notices before hiking off-trail.
Winter camping is possible but stripped down. Off-season sites are typically first-come with limited services, some restrooms may be closed, and OHV trails are shut for the season.

First off, let me start by saying Jared is considered by my family as a Super Host. I’ve never been camping before, and this was our first experience and he showed us everything that was need to be done with The RV. He took his time with us and he was very pleasant and he made us feel so comfortable. I really appreciate him and his wife & warm, welcome they gave us. Everything was wonderful. The weather kinda didn’t cooperate, but that is another story. We had a wonderful time the wife and I enjoying Camping life. We look forward to doing this again and if anybody ever thinks about renting a RV from this wonderful family, 5 stars + across the board we really had a wonderful time at Mohican State Park in Ohio Thank You so much for..

How to book campsites near Glouster
Ohio State Parks use a single reservation system. Bookings and account help go through the Ohio State Parks reservation call center at (866) 644-6727, and the online system is reserveohio.com. Main - Burr Oak State Park sites, cottages and lodge rooms are all reserved through that channel, and Ohio does not charge entrance fees at its state parks.
Strouds Run works differently. Regular campsites are first-come, first-served with payment on arrival, while two camper cabins and a group camp are available by reservation, typically arranged by phone at (740) 594-2628 or through the campground's contact page.
Private campgrounds take direct bookings. Begleys ATV Campground has 64 sites with 28 electric, and reservations go through the operator's website. For summer weekends and fall color, book Main - Burr Oak State Park well in advance.
What to expect on the ground
The terrain is Appalachian foothills, not flatland Ohio. Roads into the parks are winding with grades and low tree canopy in places, so drivers of larger RVs should scout turns and check length limits before committing to backcountry loops. Cell coverage is spotty in the hollows around Burr Oak Lake.
Hookups are limited. The main campground at Burr Oak has mostly non-electric sites with a smaller electric loop, showers, flush toilets and a dump station on site. Strouds Run has 57 primitive sites with fire rings and picnic tables, water spigots throughout, a dump station at the entrance, and pit toilets with no showers. Plan for generator hours, extra fresh water, and a full propane tank.
Wildlife is routine: the woodlands support white-tailed deer, wild turkey and box turtles. Store food, secure trash, and expect ticks in tall grass from spring through early fall.
