Campgrounds and RV parks near Greenville, OH

The Garst Museum in downtown Greenville houses the National Annie Oakley Center and exhibits on the Treaty of Greenville, Tecumseh, and broadcaster Lowell Thomas. The self-guided Annie Oakley Trail links the museum, Annie Oakley Park with its bronze statue, and outdoor markers around Darke County, and can be completed in a few hours. Shawnee Prairie Preserve, the largest park in the Darke County Park District, offers wetlands, prairie trails, and a nature center. Bear's Mill, an operating water-powered mill dating to the mid-1800s, still grinds flour and is open to visitors. Motorsports fans can catch Saturday-night dirt racing at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, plus marquee events like the Dirt Late Model Dream and the NASCAR Truck Series race.

Camping season in this part of Ohio effectively runs from spring through late fall. Most private parks open in April and wind down in October or early November; Rossburg Acres, for example, uses November 1 through May 1 as its off-season window for camper storage. Winter camping is limited and many amenities close. Late spring and early summer bring the wettest weather. A slight peak in May at about 3.35 inches indicates the highest amount of rainfall in the region, while the least is witnessed in September. Summer is peak season for family travel and coincides with the Annie Oakley Festival at the Darke County Fairgrounds in late July, plus major race weekends at Eldora, both of which tighten availability at nearby campgrounds. Fall is generally the driest and clearest stretch, with September often the sunniest month. The first measurable snowfall in the region typically starts in December with the last snowfall usually recorded in March, and the month with the most snowfall is January, so shoulder-season RVers should plan for freezing overnight lows and possible winter-weather closures.

This is small-town, agricultural Ohio. Terrain is flat to gently rolling, sites tend to be grass or gravel, and the parks lean family-oriented rather than resort-style. Fireside Resort & Campground has 69 sites with gravel pads, allows a maximum length of about 45 feet, and is open seasonally, with water and electric sites and a dump station on property. Rossburg Acres offers 36 temporary sites with 30 or 50 amp electric, water, picnic table, and fire ring, plus a dump station for campers. Expect quiet nights outside of race weekends, when Rossburg-area parks fill with dirt-racing fans and traffic near Eldora picks up. Cell service is generally solid, and grocery, fuel, and hardware are easy to find in Greenville itself. Pets are commonly allowed at the private parks.
