Camping near Heath, Ohio
Heath sits in Licking County in central Ohio, just south of Newark and about 45 minutes east of Columbus. The area gives RV travelers a practical mix of full-service private parks close to town and a large state park campground within a short drive, so families can trade between resort amenities and quieter, wooded sites without long transit days.
The closest option is The Grove By The River, a small campground on the river in Newark with full hookups. Just outside town, Hidden Hill Campground offers a wooded setting with pull-through RV sites, and Lazy River At Granville sits in the Welsh Hills a short drive northwest. Buckeye Lake / Columbus East KOA Holiday is roughly 15 miles southwest near I-70, and Dillon State Park lies about 20 miles east near Zanesville.
Together these five parks cover the main styles of central-Ohio camping: private resort, quiet rural, and public state park.
Things to do around Heath
Day trips from a Heath base camp lean on water, history, and family attractions. The lake, beach, and trails at Dillon State Park are a short drive away, giving RVers a swimming beach, boat ramp, and hiking without leaving a state park property. Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve and Dawes Arboretum are both close to town for lower-key outings.
The Newark Earthworks, a National Historic Landmark of ancient Hopewell mounds, is a short drive from most sites and works well as a half-day stop with kids. Families staying at Lazy River At Granville can use on-site features including a swimming pool, sprayground, zipline and challenge course, plus a BMX track, mini-golf, and gem mine, which cuts down on driving days. The Buckeye Lake / Columbus East KOA Holiday adds a pool, mini golf, and jump pillow for rainy afternoons.

Central Ohio has a four-season climate with warm, humid summers and cold winters. Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when family sites fill quickly on weekends and holidays at both private parks and Dillon State Park. Late spring and early fall are the sweet spot for RV travel: cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier reservations.
Dillon State Park Campground is open year-round, though from November 1 to April 1 the park operates in off-peak mode with only Area A open, one shower house available, and no rinse water at the dump station. Lazy River At Granville also operates year-round, though hours and activities vary by season and it is best to call ahead.
Private parks with pools and splash features generally run those amenities from late May through early September. Fall foliage in Licking and Muskingum counties typically peaks in mid-to-late October, making that window popular for weekend bookings. Winter campers should expect snow, limited services, and reduced staffing at most sites.

How to book campgrounds near Heath
Dillon State Park uses the Ohio state reservation system. All campsites must be reserved through reserveohio.com or by calling 866-644-6727, and no walk-in sites are offered. Campsite reservations open up to 6 months in advance, and cabin reservations open up to 12 months in advance. Book summer weekends and holidays as early as the window allows.
Private parks each use their own booking channels. Buckeye Lake / Columbus East KOA Holiday takes reservations through the KOA website or by phone, Lazy River At Granville books online or by calling 740-366-4385, and The Grove By The River and Hidden Hill Campground handle reservations directly by phone. For popular holiday weekends, contact private parks several months out.
What to expect on-site
Site styles vary widely across the five parks. Dillon State Park has 209 campsites in total, including 12 tent-only sites, and 197 sites that can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 60 feet in length. Twelve sites have full hookups (electric, water, and sewer) and the majority have electric hookups, with a shared dump station and shower house near the campground entrance.
Private parks tend to run smaller and more amenity-heavy. Lazy River At Granville offers full and partial hookup sites, back-in and pull-through, along with two heated pools, a sprayground, laundry, and a dump station. Hidden Hill Campground has full-hookup RV sites and primitive tent camping, with pull-through options, 20/30/50 amp service, restrooms and showers, a dump station, and a playground. Expect gravel or grass pads, mixed shade, and warm-season insects near the rivers.

Pro tip: book a week or longer for big out-of-state loops, hosts often offer weekly discounts that make a Heath-to-Smokies trip surprisingly affordable.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Heath RV trip?

For mid-week stays, you can often grab a great site just a few days ahead. Pro tip: if your dates are locked, set a calendar reminder for exactly 6 months out at 8 a.m. for state parks, that's when prime lakeside sites at Alum Creek and Dillon get scooped up.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/reserve-a-place-to-stay/reserve-a-campsiteWhat are local driving conditions like around Heath?
You'll find Heath one of the friendlier places in Ohio to drive an RV. The town sits at the junction of OH-79 and OH-16, both four-lane and RV-friendly, and I-70 is just 7 miles south for fast east-west travel. Avoid downtown Newark's older brick streets and the narrow stretch of N. 21st Street if you're in anything over 30 feet. Winter (December-February) can bring snow and ice, so plan around storms if you're traveling off-season. Summer thunderstorms occasionally pop up in late afternoon, just pull off at a Pilot or Love's and wait 30 minutes. Pro tip: when heading to Hocking Hills, take OH-13 south to US-33 rather than cutting through small county roads, you'll save time and dodge low-clearance bridges.
transportation.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/odot/programs/ohgoWhat amenities can I expect at Heath-area campgrounds?

A typical motorhome rental Heath travelers book on RVezy comes fully equipped: a real bed (or two), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette seating with seatbelts, climate control (A/C and furnace), and indoor/outdoor lighting. Most listings include a TV, and many offer Wi-Fi hotspots, generators or solar setups, outdoor speakers, and awnings for shaded campsite lounging. Kitchen kits, linens, and camp chairs are commonly included, just check the listing's amenity list. Pro tip: if you're planning to boondock at Wayne National Forest dispersed sites southeast of Heath, filter for RVs with a generator or solar power so you're never worried about charging phones during a long weekend off-grid.
energy.gov/energysaver/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts on RVezy make trips easy with smart add-ons. Common extras for a Heath RV rental include camping chairs and tables, bedding and towel packages, kitchen kits, generators, bike racks, propane refills, and extra mileage packages, usually $25-$75 each. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per day to unlimited, and are listed clearly on each RV's page. Pro tip: bundle bedding and kitchen kits if you're flying into John Glenn Columbus International Airport (about 40 minutes west), you'll skip a Walmart run and head straight to your campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Heath%2C%20OhioHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never in cash to the host, which means your booking, protection plan, and roadside assistance are all locked in the moment you confirm. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, the amount varies by RV (typically $500-$1,500) and is shown clearly on the listing. As long as the RV is returned in the agreed condition, the deposit is released back to your card after the trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos of the interior and exterior at pickup and drop-off, it's the easiest way to avoid any disputes and keep your Heath, Ohio RV adventure stress-free from start to finish.
