Campgrounds and RV parks near Hiram, OH

Water activities anchor most stays. Kool Lakes Family RV Park has three spring-fed lakes on the property, including a swimming lake with a sandy beach and two fishing lakes with paddleboats and rowboats. Roundup Lake RV Park and Woodside Lake Park add additional swimming and paddling options for families. Off-site, Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park delivers short hikes through dramatic sandstone formations, cliffs, and waterfalls just minutes from Garrettsville. Punderson State Park adds roughly 10 miles of trails, an 18-hole public golf course, a swimming beach, and disc golf around its 150-acre lake. Day trips are easy from Hiram. Cuyahoga Valley National Park, with its scenic railroad and waterfall trails, is about an hour west. Amish country in Holmes County sits about an hour south and works well as a single-day outing from any of the local campgrounds.

The private campgrounds around Hiram run a standard northern-Ohio season. Kool Lakes Family RV Park operates from early May through mid-October, and other local private parks follow a similar late-spring to mid-fall window. Pools, snack bars, and planned activities generally start on Memorial Day weekend and wind down after Labor Day. Punderson State Park camps year-round, but water and sewer hookups are shut off for the winter season beginning October 31. The lodge, cottages, sledding hill, and cross-country ski trails remain in use in winter, which is unusual for Ohio state parks and useful for shoulder-season RV trips. July and August are the busiest months. Weekends fill first, particularly holiday weekends and event weekends such as themed family weekends at Country Acres Campground and Fun Park and the annual cardboard boat race at Kool Lakes Family RV Park. Book several weeks out for peak summer, and expect much easier availability in May, September, and early October.

Terrain around Hiram is gently rolling with a mix of woods, small lakes, and farmland. Most campgrounds sit on flat to gently sloped ground, though some sites at Punderson are notably uneven and may require blocking, and walk-in tent sites there climb into the forest. Hookups vary. Kool Lakes Family RV Park offers full hook-up pull-through sites with 30- and 50-amp service suited to larger rigs, and Roundup Lake RV Park and Woodside Lake Park offer similar RV infrastructure. Punderson runs mostly 20-amp electric sites with a small number of 30/50-amp full-hookup sites, so plan dump-station stops for longer stays. Expect mosquitoes in summer, especially near lakes and wooded sites, and pack bug spray. Cell coverage is generally reliable, and most private parks offer Wi-Fi, though performance varies with occupancy.
