Camping near Killbuck, Ohio
Killbuck sits in western Holmes County, Ohio, at the edge of the Appalachian foothills and in the heart of Ohio's Amish Country. The village is named for the Lenape chief Bemino (John Killbuck Sr.) and serves as a quiet base for exploring rolling farmland, covered bridges, and the Killbuck Creek valley. RV travelers use the area for access to Amish shops and bakeries, the Holmes County Trail rail-to-trail, and the Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area.
Campground options nearby cover both full-service RV parks and family resorts. Berlin RV Park and Campground Ltd, Whispering Hills Jellystone Recreation, and Scenic Hills RV Park sit within short drives of Killbuck and put travelers close to Berlin, Millersburg, and Walnut Creek. Walhonding Hills Campgrounds is set south toward the Walhonding River valley.
For river-focused trips, Mohican Reservation Campgrounds and Canoeing lies southwest near Loudonville, close to Mohican State Park and the Clear Fork of the Mohican River. Together these campgrounds give RV renters a range of hookups, kid amenities, and paddling access within an easy day's radius of Killbuck.
Things to do around Killbuck
The Killbuck Valley Museum in the village covers the natural and cultural history of the Killbuck region and Holmes County, with local artifacts and taxidermy exhibits. The nearby Killbuck Swamp Preserve, a 443-acre wildland managed by the Killbuck Watershed Land Trust and Arc of Appalachia, has two developed hiking trails: the Quarry Bluff Trail, a one-mile loop that climbs to an old sandstone quarry, and the Turtle Pond Trail, a short out-and-back along Killbuck Creek. Birders visit the Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area to spot sandhill cranes, bald eagles, waterfowl, and beavers.
The Holmes County Trail is a flat, paved rail-to-trail that runs roughly from Fredericksburg to Killbuck and is shared by cyclists, walkers, and Amish buggies. Families staying at Whispering Hills Jellystone Recreation or Scenic Hills RV Park can pair trail time with stops at Amish bakeries, cheese factories, and furniture shops along the Amish Country Byway on US 62 and State Route 60.
Southwest of Killbuck, the Mohican area offers canoeing, tubing, and mountain biking on the Mohican trail system.

The Killbuck area has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Most private campgrounds in the area run a standard April-through-October season, with peak demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Summer weekends fill quickly at family resorts like Whispering Hills Jellystone Recreation, so booking well in advance is recommended.
Spring brings wildflowers and rising creek levels, which is good for paddling on the Mohican River but can also mean muddy trails and cool nights. Fall is a strong shoulder season: color peaks in Holmes County woodlands typically in mid-October, and Amish harvest activity is in full swing. Weekday sites are easier to find in September and early October.
Winter camping is limited. Mohican State Park keeps its family campground open year-round on a reduced-service basis, and from mid-November through March 31 water is not available at full-hookup sites. Deer gun season in December also affects access to some state forest lands.
How to book campgrounds near Killbuck
Private campgrounds in the Killbuck area, including Berlin RV Park and Campground Ltd, Whispering Hills Jellystone Recreation, Scenic Hills RV Park, Walhonding Hills Campgrounds, and Mohican Reservation Campgrounds and Canoeing, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Cancellation windows and booking fees vary by property, so review the specific policy before confirming.
For the state-run option at nearby Mohican State Park, reservations go through the ReserveOhio system online or by calling (866) 644-6727. Campsites can be reserved up to six months in advance, and cabins up to one year. Walk-in camping is not available, and weekend reservations require a two-night minimum.
Summer weekends and fall foliage weekends are the tightest windows. Book several months ahead for holiday weekends and prime foliage dates in October.
What to expect on-site
Most RV parks near Killbuck are family-oriented with full hookups, laundry, pools or splash areas, and playgrounds. Whispering Hills Jellystone Recreation is a themed family resort with kid programming, while Berlin RV Park and Campground Ltd and Scenic Hills RV Park lean toward quieter, hookup-focused stays close to Berlin and Millersburg attractions.
Cell reception can be spotty in the hills and hollows around Holmes County. Some Amish-country businesses are closed on Sundays, and traffic includes horse-drawn buggies on rural roads, so drive with extra caution and give buggies wide clearance when passing.
At Mohican State Park, the family campground offers full hookup, electric, and non-electric sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring, plus a seasonal pool open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Up to two pets are allowed per site, and visitors are not permitted to drive through the campground from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

weather.gov/cle/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in Holmes County?
You're going to do great, even on your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a thorough walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, slide-outs, hookups, water, and waste, so you're never left guessing. Holmes County's main routes (US-62, SR-39, SR-83) are well-maintained, two-lane country roads with light traffic compared to anywhere near Cleveland or Columbus. The biggest local tip: watch for slow-moving Amish buggies, especially on hills and blind curves, and pass only on straight, open stretches when it's fully safe. Want even less stress? Pick a Class B campervan rental Killbuck listing: they drive nearly like a tall van. Your host is just a text away the whole trip.

You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for quick questions about the rig. Peace of mind on tap.

nps.gov/cuva/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on a Killbuck RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier line items to plan around here. Most Class C motorhomes around Killbuck get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle's MPG, and Class B campervans can hit 18 to 22 MPG. Ohio gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, often $3.00 to $3.50 per gallon in Millersburg and the Walmart in Wooster. ohiostateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Killbuck?
Driving around Killbuck is genuinely pleasant once you know what to expect. Roads are paved, low-traffic, and roll gently through farmland, but two things matter: hills and horse-drawn buggies. SR-60 and SR-520 have several steep grades, so take them in low gear in a larger motorhome. Buggies are common any day except Sunday morning, travel at about 5 to 8 MPH, and should be passed only with a wide berth on straight, open stretches. Winter brings occasional snow and ice from December to March; spring can flood low spots along Killbuck Creek. Avoid narrow township roads (often gravel and steep) when your GPS suggests shortcuts. Stick to numbered state and US routes and you'll cruise easily.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's the local insider tip for an Amish Country RV trip?
Here's the move most visitors miss: spend a weekday, not a weekend, exploring Berlin, Walnut Creek, and Sugarcreek. Many Amish businesses close on Sundays, and Saturdays get packed with tour buses, so Tuesday through Thursday is when you'll get fresh-baked pies at Boyd & Wurthmann, browse Lehman's Hardware in Kidron without crowds, and actually find parking for your RV. Stop at Heini's Cheese Chalet for samples, then drive to Yoder's Amish Home for a buggy ride. Cap the day at Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area at dusk: it's one of Ohio's largest remaining wetlands and a top birding spot. That's how locals do Holmes County.
