Campgrounds and RV parks near LaGrange, OH

On-park activity centers on the lakes. Findley State Park has a 435-foot swimming beach with a concession, a marina renting canoes, rowboats, and paddleboats, and two launch ramps for electric-motor boats. Roughly 16 miles of trails cross the park, used for hiking and mountain biking, including the Thorn Mountain Bike Trail, an 11-mile loop that mixes flat middle sections with technical climbs and bank turns. A portion of the statewide Buckeye Trail also passes through, and two 18-hole disc golf courses add another option. Private parks lean toward family recreation. Pier-Lon Park is built around a five-acre lake with a designated swimming area and catch-and-release fishing for campers, plus a game room and general store. Off-park day trips include Lake Erie beaches near Vermilion and Huron, Cuyahoga Valley National Park east of Akron, and the shops and farms around Amish country to the south.

Northeast Ohio has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. The prime RV window runs from mid-May through early October, when overnight lows are reliably above freezing and lake activities are open. July is typically the warmest month, with average highs in the low 80s Fahrenheit. June is the wettest month of the year, averaging roughly 127 mm of rain, so early-summer campers should expect muddy sites after storms. Shoulder seasons are practical but weather-dependent. Spring brings wildflowers to Findley's forested trails, including trillium, Dutchman's breeches, and bloodroot, but April and early May can be cold and wet. September and October offer cooler days, thinner crowds, and fall color, with the first measurable snow typically arriving in November. Most private parks in the area follow a mid-April to mid-October season. Pier-Lon Park, for example, operates from mid-April to mid-October. Findley State Park's campground stays open year round, though shower houses close during the coldest months and the three rustic cabins are limited to summer months.

Findley's campground has roughly 272 sites split across electric, non-electric, and a smaller number of full-hookup sites, mixing sun and shade under stately pines and hardwoods. Facilities include showers, flush toilets, laundry, a dump station, a game room, and a camp store selling ice, firewood, charcoal, and snacks. Sites vary in size and privacy, so it is worth studying the campground map before selecting a specific number. Private parks skew toward tight, well-manicured layouts with a heavy seasonal presence. Pier-Lon Park is a dry, family-oriented park with no alcohol permitted, Sunday worship services, and full-hookup sites with 50-amp service that can accept larger rigs, though sites are closely spaced. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the area, mosquitoes and ticks are active from late May through September, and Ohio recommends buying firewood locally or using certified heat-treated wood to limit pest spread.
