Campgrounds and RV parks near Leavittsburg, OH

Water recreation drives most trips to this area. Unlimited-horsepower boating is permitted on portions of the 7,850-acre Mosquito Lake, with no skiing, tubing, or personal watercraft north of the State Route 88 causeway, and five launch ramps provide access to the lake. Fishing is popular throughout the year with plentiful catches of walleye, bass, crappie, and northern pike. On land, Mosquito Lake State Park offers a mix of trails and family amenities. The Squirrel Run Disc Golf Course features 18 holes with both long and short tees, and there is no fee to play. The 8.4-mile Horse Trail is multi-use for hiking, horseback riding, and snowmobiling, and the 5-mile Turkey Run Trail supports hiking, biking, and snowmobiling. At the Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday, on-site options include a swimming lake, mini golf, a jump pad, and walking trails, which keeps families busy on rain-shortened days.

Peak camping season in northeast Ohio runs from late spring through early fall. Mosquito Lake State Park Campground operates with full amenities, including showerhouses, from April 1 through October 31. The park's two yurts overlook the water and are typically available in the warmer months. Summer weekends, especially around Independence Day and Labor Day, book out early, so plan ahead for lakeside loops. Shoulder-season trips in May, September, and early October usually offer cooler temperatures, thinner crowds, and easier reservations, though evenings can turn cold quickly. At the private campgrounds in the area, swim beaches and pools generally follow a Memorial Day through Labor Day season, so water play is limited outside that window. Winter camping is possible but stripped down. From November 1 through March 31, Mosquito Lake operates with reduced services: showerhouses closed, pit latrines available, and no potable water at full-service sites. Lake-effect snow off Lake Erie can arrive quickly, so RVers should watch forecasts and pack for cold-weather hookups.

Site setups vary between state-park and private campgrounds. At Mosquito Lake, full-service sites offer water, electric, and sewer hookups, while standard electric sites provide 20, 30, or 50 amp service. Non-electric sites and walk-in tent options are also available, and each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring. Some sites have lakeshore views and many are well shaded. Amenities are strongest during the warm months. From April through October the state-park campground runs full amenities, including modern showerhouses with flush toilets and a two-lane dump station with fresh water fill-up. Five boat ramps provide lake access, a marina offers fuel and boat rentals, and a 600-foot sandy beach is open for swimming in summer. Quiet hours and standard state-park pet rules apply, with leashed pets permitted on designated pet-friendly sites.
