Camping near Leetonia, Ohio
Leetonia sits in Columbiana County in northeast Ohio, within a short drive of the wooded ravines and canal-era history of Beaver Creek State Park. The area mixes public land camping inside the state park with several private RV parks along the corridor between Salem and Lisbon, so RV travelers can pick between rustic state-park sites and full-hookup resorts within about a half-hour of town.
The closest public option is Beaver Creek State Park, managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, whose family campground on Leslie Road serves as the main camping area inside the park. Nearby private parks include Salem/Lisbon KOA Holiday, Chaparral Family Campground, Western Reserve Campground, and Timashamie Family Campground, all oriented toward family RV stays.
Beaver Creek State Park sits in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and includes Little Beaver Creek, a state and national wild and scenic river, along with roughly 2,722 acres of forest wilderness. That combination of state-park terrain and full-service private grounds makes Leetonia a practical base for a first RV trip or a longer weekend loop through eastern Ohio.
Things to do near Leetonia
Most trips center on Beaver Creek State Park. Approximately sixteen miles of hiking trails lead visitors to historic canal locks and through a steep-walled gorge, with several waterfalls tucked into tributary streams and a short trail from the campground to Oak Tree Point that opens onto the valley. A pioneer village near Gaston's Mill includes a schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, chapel, covered bridge, and a restored canal-era lock, giving families a hands-on look at 19th-century Ohio.
On the water, Little Beaver Creek is one of the more scenic paddling runs in Ohio, with swift currents and gorge views; no swimming areas are available. Mountain bikers can ride the Dogwood and Vondergreen trails, and anglers work the creek for smallmouth and rock bass.
At Salem/Lisbon KOA Holiday, families lean on the on-site amenities: an Olympic-size outdoor heated pool, a splash pad with spray flowers and dumping buckets, a catch-and-release fishing lake, and themed weekends through the summer.

The core RV season in this part of Ohio runs from late spring through mid-fall. Summer brings the warmest, most reliable weather and the busiest campgrounds, with weekends at Beaver Creek and the nearby KOA filling well ahead. At Salem/Lisbon KOA Holiday, the outdoor pool is open from Memorial Weekend through Labor Day Weekend, which lines up with peak family demand.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler, with spring wildflowers along the creek banks and strong fall color in the ravines. The park's Wildlife Education Center is open Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm, from the first weekend of May through the first weekend of October, so shoulder-season visits still line up with interpretive programming. Nondenominational church services at Williamsport Chapel are offered mid-May through September.
Winters are cold and snowy, and most state-park amenities scale back. Park visitors can enjoy sledding and cross-country skiing when conditions permit. Salem/Lisbon KOA remains an option in the off-season, since the campground is open year round with deluxe cabins that include kitchenettes and bathrooms.

We had the most amazing trip and lived in luxury renting from Starla! We had EVERYTHING we needed from clean beds, blankets, kitchen supplies, utensils, towels, and even awesome movie sections for our kids to watch at night. We were celebrating our son’s bday and she even put a little treat in the fridge for him. It was so sweet and he loved it. I am looking forward to renting again in the future! Who would’ve thought camping could ever be so easy and relaxing?!?! I cannot thank you enough Starla for the amazing trip we had!! 💕

How to book campgrounds near Leetonia
For Beaver Creek State Park, all sites are reservable through Ohio's central reservation system at reserveohio.com or by calling 1-866-OHIOPARKS. This covers the family campground on Leslie Road, the two cabins located within it, the group sites, and the equestrian camp on Sprucevale Road. The system accepts reservations up to six months in advance, so summer weekends and holidays should be locked in as early as that window opens.
Private parks book directly. Salem/Lisbon KOA Holiday takes reservations through the KOA website or by phone, and its full-hookup RV sites and deluxe cabins are popular in summer, so booking weeks or months out is wise. Chaparral Family Campground, Western Reserve Campground, and Timashamie Family Campground each handle their own reservations; call ahead to confirm rig length limits, hookups, and any seasonal-site availability.
What to expect on the ground
Beaver Creek's family campground is basic by design. Only six sites have electric hookups, the campground runs on limited well water, RVs cannot fill onboard tanks so campers should arrive with full fresh water, and facilities include pit toilets plus a sun shower stall for guests who bring their own bag. Reviewers note that many sites are small with narrow, uneven pads that can be tricky for larger rigs to maneuver into. A dump station is available near the campground.
Park rules are standard state-park issue. Campsite check-in is 3 pm and check-out is 1 pm, when all equipment and vehicles must be off the site. Maximum stay is 14 days within a 30-day period, with six people per site. Note that the one-lane bridge on Echo Dell Road cannot accommodate RVs or trailers, so campers must approach via Leslie Road.
Salem/Lisbon KOA sits at the other end of the spectrum, with large, level, full-hookup RV sites, lakeside tent sites, deluxe cabins, and themed weekends through the summer. Expect a busier, more amenity-heavy feel than the state park.
