Camping near Leipsic, Ohio
Leipsic sits in Putnam County in northwest Ohio, a flat agricultural corridor between Findlay, Lima, and Toledo. The area is not a destination park in itself, but it works well as an RV base for the Maumee River corridor, Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge to the north, and a cluster of private campgrounds within a short drive.
The closest option is Gilboa Quarry RV Park & Campground in Ottawa, roughly 25 minutes from Lima and 30 minutes from Findlay. Twin Lakes Campground, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Pleasant View, and Casual Campfire RV Campground offer additional private-park stays with family amenities. For a state-park experience, Mary Jane Thurston State Park Campground sits along the historic Maumee River, which provides some of the best stream fishing in Ohio.
Most sites in the region are level and easy to navigate with a rental trailer or motorhome. Terrain is flat, roads are straight, and access from I-75 and US-224 is straightforward for larger rigs.
Things to do around Leipsic
Water is the main draw. Gilboa Quarry is one of the Midwest's premier freshwater dive sites, a former limestone quarry with depths reaching 140 feet and average visibility of 30 to 40 feet in its spring-fed waters. Sunken planes, helicopters, buses, and platforms make repeat dives interesting, and non-divers can snorkel, paddle, or relax on the beach.
At Mary Jane Thurston State Park, the Maumee River supports paddling, boating, and fishing, with walleye, bass, catfish, and crappie among the common catches. The park has a disc golf course and an archery range on the east side of the day-use area with static and 3-D targets at 10, 20, 30, and 40 yards. Hiking trails, picnic areas, and Saturday-night amphitheater movies round out an easy family weekend.

Northwest Ohio has a full four-season climate, and campground calendars reflect that. The small campground at Mary Jane Thurston offers both non-electric and electric sites, several with water hook-up, plus latrines and restrooms nearby and a potable fill station and dump station near the park office. Cold-weather stays are workable but bare-bones, with reduced facilities in winter.
Peak season runs roughly late April through October, when private parks are fully open and river conditions on the Maumee are most reliable. Summer weekends draw the strongest demand: at Gilboa Quarry, dive and RV traffic peaks on warm-weather weekends, so booking two to three weeks out for popular dates is prudent.
Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and thinner crowds, and is often the most comfortable window for RV travel in the region. Winter camping is possible at Mary Jane Thurston but expect limited services.
How to book campgrounds near Leipsic
Booking channels split by property type. Ohio state parks use a central reservation system through ReserveOhio: reservations may be made up to six months in advance online or by calling (866) 644-6727, and pet camping is available at all sites at Mary Jane Thurston. That six-month window sets the outer booking horizon for the state-park campground.
Private parks handle their own reservations. Gilboa Quarry reserves online through its own booking portal: campers pick dates and choose an RV site based on hookup needs, with check-in required at the front office on arrival. Twin Lakes Campground, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Pleasant View, and Casual Campfire RV Campground each publish their own booking pages, and holiday weekends should be locked in well ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Expect flat terrain, rural roads, and a mix of quarry, riverside, and open-field settings. RV sites at Gilboa Quarry sit alongside spring-fed quarry waters in a rural Ohio setting, with restroom facilities and hot showers, a convenience store, and firewood available on site.
State-park sites are more compact. At Mary Jane Thurston, the Maumee River flows directly past several campsites, and RVs up to 50 feet can access electric and water hookups through a compact layout. Sites cluster close together with limited privacy, though riverside spots provide open water views. Pets must be leashed, and quiet hours are observed overnight. Cell coverage is generally solid across the region, and grocery runs are quick from any campground in the area.

Travel trailers and smaller towables typically run around $100 to $175 per night, while Class C motorhomes average $175 to $250 per night, and Class A motorhomes can range higher depending on size and age. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Leipsic%2C%20OhioDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Leipsic, Ohio?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Leipsic, Ohio. Under Ohio Revised Code Section 4506, recreational vehicles used for personal trips are exempt from Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements, no matter the size, so you can drive a Class A, Class B campervan, or Class C motorhome with your standard license. Every RVezy guest just needs to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and ID verification happens right through the platform when you book. Visiting from outside the United States? Grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country before you fly in and you're set for your Leipsic RV trip.
bmv.ohio.gov/dl-cdl-exemptions.aspxWhat protection and roadside assistance is included with my Leipsic RV rental?
Every RV rental in Leipsic on RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can explore Putnam County with peace of mind. You select your protection level at checkout (this is set by RVezy, not by the host), and it covers most damage to the RV during your trip. Roadside assistance is just a phone call away if you have a flat on State Route 65 or need a jump start at a rural campground. While protection plans are not traditional auto insurance, the coverage means a fender bump or a blown tire will not derail your motorhome rental in Leipsic. Book confidently and focus on the trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Leipsic RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a consistent cancellation policy across every listing (hosts do not set this themselves), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book. That gives you time to lock in dates without worrying about being stuck if plans change. Refund amounts after the grace period depend on how close you are to your trip start date. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credit. For the full breakdown, see the RVezy cancellation policy help article, or reach out to RVezy support before you confirm your Leipsic RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Leipsic?
Yes, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Leipsic, and your dog will love it here. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see listings that welcome dogs (some allow cats too). Putnam County and the wider northwest Ohio region offer great leashed-dog spots: try Oak Openings Preserve Metropark near Toledo, the trails at Maumee State Forest, or a walk along the Blanchard River in nearby Findlay. Ohio State Parks also allow leashed pets at designated pet-friendly campsites. Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm any pet fees and breed or size notes so check-in is smooth.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/campgroundsCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Leipsic?
Yes, RV delivery in Leipsic is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many hosts will tow or drive the rig straight to your driveway, your campsite, or a nearby park like Gilboa Quarry or Van Buren State Park, then handle full setup including leveling, slide-outs, awning, and hookups. They will walk you through every system before they leave, so you are never guessing. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to find hosts who offer this in your area. Delivery fees are based on distance and RV size, so request a quote on the listing before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Leipsic%2C%20OhioHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Leipsic, OH?
Leipsic is well positioned for an RV road trip, with major Midwest destinations within an easy day's drive. Cedar Point in Sandusky is about 90 miles northeast (under 2 hours), Hocking Hills State Park is roughly 150 miles southeast (about 3 hours), Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Cleveland is about 150 miles east, and Indiana Dunes National Park sits about 200 miles west via I-80/90. Filter for unlimited mileage on RVezy, or message a host to add extra miles to your booking before you hit the road.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Leipsic%2C%20OhioWhere are the best campgrounds near Leipsic, OH for RV camping?
You have great options for RV camping near Leipsic. Gilboa Quarry RV Park and Campground in Ottawa (about 10 miles south) is a local favorite for swimming and scuba in spring-fed water, with full-hookup sites. Van Buren State Park near Findlay (about 25 miles southeast) offers electric sites, a lake, and trails. For a Lake Erie shoreline experience, Maumee Bay State Park near Toledo is roughly 60 miles north and has full-amenity RV sites. Grand Lake St. Marys State Park is another good day-drive option to the south. Pro tip: book Gilboa and Maumee Bay early, both fill fast on summer weekends.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/state-parksWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Leipsic, Ohio?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Leipsic, with daytime highs from the upper 70s to upper 80s in summer and crisp, colorful 60s in fall. June through August offers warm swimming weather at Gilboa Quarry and the Lake Erie islands, while late September into October delivers stunning fall foliage along the Maumee River and at Oak Openings. Spring (April-May) brings mild 60s, occasional rain, and far fewer crowds, so it's a smart-money window. Winter trips are doable too with a four-season rig, but expect average snowfall around 22 inches and overnight lows that can drop below zero. Pro tip: shoulder seasons mean the best campsite availability.
weather.gov/cle/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in Leipsic?
You will do great. Leipsic and the surrounding Putnam County roads are ideal for first-time RVers: flat terrain, light traffic, wide rural routes like State Route 65 and US-224, and plenty of open shoulders. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, slides, water, and waste systems, so you are never figuring it out alone. If you are nervous about backing into a campsite, ask for a pull-through site at Van Buren State Park or Gilboa Quarry. Prefer to skip driving altogether? Filter for Delivery and let the host bring the RV directly to your campsite. RVezy support is also reachable if you have questions on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down or have a problem during my Leipsic RV trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you get a flat on US-224 outside Ottawa, run out of fuel near Findlay, or have a battery issue at a campground, one phone call gets help dispatched. The roadside team handles tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to a safe location. Your host is also a great first contact for quick questions about the rig's specific systems, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before you leave the driveway. Northwest Ohio's flat terrain and well-maintained roads make incidents rare, but help is close when you need it.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Leipsic RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, cross-state travel is generally fine on RVezy rentals from Leipsic. You are a quick drive to Indiana (about 25 miles west), Michigan (about 75 miles north), and Pennsylvania or Kentucky within a day, making a Great Lakes loop very doable. Trips into Canada may be allowed with host approval and proper documentation, so message the host before booking to confirm. Trips into Mexico are not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: keep a copy of your booking confirmation and the roadside assistance number handy at the border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat fuel mileage should I expect, and how do I budget for gas?
Fuel costs are easy to plan for on a Leipsic RV trip. Class C motorhomes typically average 8-12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A motorhomes get around 7-10 MPG, Class B campervans hit 18-22 MPG, and your tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer or fifth wheel will land around 10-14 MPG. Ohio gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, and you'll find affordable fuel at stations along I-75 in Findlay and Lima. For a weekend trip from Leipsic to Cedar Point and back (about 180 round-trip miles), budget roughly $50-$80 in gas for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up off the interstate where prices are usually 20-30 cents cheaper per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Leipsic?
For Ohio State Parks like Van Buren, Maumee Bay, or Grand Lake St. Marys, you can reserve campsites up to six months in advance through reserveohio.com or by calling 866-OHIOPARKS. Summer weekends and fall color weekends in October book up fast, so aim to lock in dates as soon as the six-month window opens. Private parks like Gilboa Quarry and Adventure Bound Pleasant View often open reservations a year out and fill quickly for July 4th and Labor Day. Midweek arrivals (Sunday-Thursday) almost always have availability, even on short notice. Pro tip: shoulder seasons in May and September deliver great weather and far easier campground booking around Leipsic.
ohiodnr.gov/rules-and-regulations/rules-and-regulations-by-division/state-parks-and-watercraft/ohio-state-park-rules/0-reservation-policyWhat are local driving conditions like around Leipsic?
Driving conditions around Leipsic are about as RV-friendly as it gets: flat farmland, straight rural roads, and very light traffic outside of rush hour in nearby Findlay or Lima. US-224 and State Routes 65, 12, and 109 are wide and easy to navigate even in a Class A. Watch for slow-moving Amish buggies on county roads and be alert during harvest season (September-November) when farm equipment shares the road. Winter can bring lake-effect snow squalls off Lake Erie, so check forecasts December through March. I-75, just 15 miles east, is your quick connection to Toledo, Dayton, and Cincinnati. Pro tip: avoid downtown Findlay during the morning and evening commute if you're driving a larger rig.

Each Ohio State Park campsite includes a parking pad, picnic table, and fire ring, and dump stations and potable water fill stations are available on-site. Pro tip: confirm whether your site is back-in or pull-through when booking, especially for larger Class A or fifth-wheel rigs, and check the campground map for site length restrictions.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/state-parksWhat features and amenities come with RVs available in Leipsic?

Pickup is typically at the host's location, with check-in windows set on each listing. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Leipsic%2C%20OhioHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Leipsic through RVezy, your card is charged through the platform, never directly to the host, so your booking is protected end-to-end. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before your trip starts and is released back to your card after a successful return with no damage or policy issues. The exact deposit amount is shown on each listing before you confirm. To avoid delayed holds, return the RV on time, refueled per the host's policy, with tanks emptied if required. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos of the rig at pickup and dropoff. It is the easiest way to keep your full deposit and end your Leipsic trip on a high note.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Leipsic during winter, and how do I prep for cold weather?
Yes, winter RV rental in Leipsic is possible, and a snowy Putnam County trip can be a quiet, beautiful adventure. Look for listings labeled four-season or with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a working furnace, since January lows in Leipsic can dip into the teens or lower and snowfall averages around 25 to 30 inches per year. Plan to stay at a campground with shore power so you can run the furnace without taxing the batteries. Pro tip: message your host about cold-weather prep including antifreeze in the lines, skirting tips, and propane levels, and pack extra blankets, a small space heater, and traction mats for snow.
