Camping near Lima, Ohio
Lima sits in Allen County in northwest Ohio, roughly halfway between Toledo and Dayton along the I-75 corridor. The area is flat farm country with pockets of woodland and a handful of lakes, and it works well as an overnight stop for travelers on I-75 or as a base for exploring west-central Ohio.
RV travelers have a mix of options within a short drive. Wapakoneta KOA Holiday sits at 14719 Cemetery Road in Wapakoneta, about a fifteen-minute drive south of Lima off I-75, and operates seasonally from April 1 through October 31. Sun Valley Family Campgrounds and Easy Campground offer additional private-park options closer to town, while Glacier Hill Lakes RV Resort provides another nearby choice.
For a larger recreation destination, Indian Lake State Park lies approximately 20 miles southeast of Lima and anchors most weekend trips in the region.
Things to do near Lima
Water recreation drives most trips. At 5,104 acres, Indian Lake is the second largest inland lake in Ohio, and the lake allows unlimited horsepower boating with swimming at two public beaches (Old Field and Fox Island) plus four designated boat and swim areas. Facilities include restrooms, picnic shelters, boat ramps, and boat docks available for rent.
Land-based activities include short hiking trails, a lakefront walking and biking path around parts of Indian Lake, and family attractions in Wapakoneta. The Armstrong Air and Space Museum, honoring Neil Armstrong, is a common stop with kids, and the Airstream factory in nearby Jackson Center offers weekday tours. Downtown Lima adds restaurants, shops, and the Allen County Museum for rainy-day plans.

The main camping season runs roughly from mid-April through late October. Private parks along I-75 follow that window: Wapakoneta KOA Holiday is open April 1 through October 31, and many other private campgrounds in the region operate on similar schedules. Ohio state park campgrounds typically stay open year-round, though hookups and services are reduced in the off-season.
Summer is the busiest stretch. Day-trippers and campers descend on Indian Lake in the summer months, and the park can get busy, especially on weekends. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day) fill first, and lakefront sites go earliest.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. Late April through May brings wildflowers and songbird migration, while September and October deliver mild days, thinner crowds, and fall color across the hardwoods that shade many campgrounds.
How to book
For Indian Lake State Park, reservations go through the ReserveOhio system operated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Sites can be reserved online at ReserveOhio.com up to six months in advance of arrival, and popular sites can book up quickly, especially during peak season and on holiday weekends. Phone bookings are available through the central reservation line at 1-866-644-6727.
Private parks around Lima, including Wapakoneta KOA Holiday, Sun Valley Family Campgrounds, Glacier Hill Lakes RV Resort, and Easy Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends, aim to book two to three months out; midweek stays are usually available on shorter notice.
What to expect on arrival
Sites in this part of Ohio are generally level with gravel or grass pads. Full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric) are common at the private parks along I-75, while state park loops offer a mix of electric-only and full-hookup sites. Indian Lake State Park Campground includes electric and full-hookup RV sites, non-electric and tent options, and a small number of shoreline boat-camping sites accessible only by water.
Many established campgrounds in the area sit under mature oak, sycamore, and maple trees, so shaded sites are common. Expect standard state-park rules: quiet hours after 10 p.m., leashed pets only, and campfires in provided rings. An Ohio fishing license is required if you plan to fish.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Lima, OH
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lima, OH?
RV rental in Lima is one of the more affordable options in the Midwest. On RVezy, towable trailers in the Lima area average around $125 to $160 per night, while motorhomes (Class A, B, and C) typically range from $175 to $250 per night before fees. Many hosts offer 10 to 20 percent weekly and monthly discounts, so a 4 to 7 day trip often delivers the best per-night value. For a cheap RV rental Lima option, pair a travel trailer with a stay at a nearby Allen County campground. Pro tip: booking shoulder months like late April or September can save you another 15 to 20 percent on host pricing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lima%2C%20OhioWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Lima, Ohio?
Great news for first-timers: your regular Ohio driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lima. The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every RV on RVezy. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). Most travelers are surprised how simple the paperwork is, leaving you free to focus on planning your Lima RV trip.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not the host) sets a clear, guest-friendly cancellation policy that applies to every reservation platform-wide, including a full money-back grace period right after booking. The exact refund depends on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credit so your plans stay protected. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip if anything unexpected comes up. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Lima?
Absolutely, and finding a pet-friendly RV rental in Lima is easy on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Once you're on the road, Ottawa Metro Park and Kendrick Woods both allow leashed dogs on their trails, and Faurot Park right in Lima has open green space perfect for a stretch break. Indian Lake State Park, about 35 miles southeast, has dog-friendly areas as well. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet rules and ask about their favorite local dog-friendly stops near Lima.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/indian-lake-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Lima?
Yes, RV delivery in Lima is one of the most popular options for first-time renters, and many area hosts offer it. They'll drive the motorhome or travel trailer to your driveway, campground site, or event location, level it, hook it up, and walk you through everything from the awning to the water pump. That makes a motorhome rental in Lima approachable even if you've never towed or driven a big rig. Delivery fees vary based on distance and RV size, and you can filter listings by Delivery on RVezy to see exactly who offers it. Pro tip: book delivery to a nearby Allen County campground for a stress-free first night just minutes from downtown Lima.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lima%2C%20OhioHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Lima?
Lima's central Ohio location is a road tripper's dream: you're within a tank or two of dozens of destinations. Mileage policies are set by each host, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. From Lima you can reach Indian Lake State Park in about 45 minutes, Lake Erie at Marblehead in roughly 2.5 hours, Hocking Hills State Park in about 3 hours, and Mammoth Cave in Kentucky in about 5.5 hours. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Lima toward the Smokies or Mackinac, filter for hosts offering unlimited or high-mileage packages to keep your budget predictable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lima%2C%20OhioWhere are the best campgrounds near Lima, OH?
You have excellent options within a short drive of Lima. Ottawa Metro Park, part of the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District, sits just east of I-75 in Lima and is a convenient base for day-use and short stays. Wapakoneta KOA Holiday, about 15 miles south, offers shaded full-hookup sites and a pool. Indian Lake State Park (about 35 miles southeast) has full-hookup sites and a camper beach, and Grand Lake St. Marys State Park (about 30 miles southwest) sits on Ohio's largest inland lake. Pro tip: reserve Ohio State Park sites up to six months in advance through the official Ohio State Parks reservation system for summer weekends.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/reserve-a-spotWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Lima, Ohio?
Late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Lima, thanks to a humid continental climate. May brings highs around 70 degrees Fahrenheit and blooming countryside, June through August averages highs in the low to mid 80s (perfect for lake days at Indian Lake or Grand Lake St. Marys), and September and early October deliver crisp 60s to 70s with beautiful fall color across Allen County. Winters drop into the 20s and 30s with regular snow, but a winterized RV stay can be peaceful and quiet. Pro tip: target mid to late August if you want to combine your trip with the Allen County Fair, one of Ohio's larger county fairs.
weather.gov/iln/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Lima?
You'll do great, and Lima is one of the friendlier places in Ohio to learn. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering driving, leveling, hookups, the awning, and dump procedures, so you never have to figure it out alone. Lima's grid-style streets, wide arterials like Elida Road and Bellefontaine Avenue, and easy access to I-75 and US-30 make first time renting an RV very manageable. If big-rig driving feels intimidating, choose a Class B campervan rental in Lima, a smaller travel trailer, or have the host deliver. Pro tip: practice a few right turns and parking-lot loops near the Lima Mall before heading to the highway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Lima trip?
You're covered. Every RV rental in Lima booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're at a campsite, on I-75, or out near Indian Lake. The service handles common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also a quick message away through the RVezy app and often knows trusted local mechanics. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's tire pressures, fluid levels, and dash before pulling out of the driveway so you have a baseline reference if any warning light appears later.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Lima RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, cross-state travel is welcomed by most Lima hosts, and that's a big perk of Lima's location at the crossroads of I-75 and US-30. Popular RV road trip from Lima routes include Michigan's Mackinaw City (about 4.5 hours), Kentucky's Mammoth Cave (about 5.5 hours), and Great Smoky Mountains National Park (about 8 hours). Travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval and insurance confirmation, so message the host directly before booking if you're considering Niagara Falls or Toronto. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: confirm cross-border plans in writing through the RVezy chat so everyone has a clear record.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Lima RV trip?
Fuel is one of the most predictable parts of your Lima RV budget. Expect a Class B campervan to get 18 to 22 miles per gallon, a Class C motorhome 8 to 12 MPG, a Class A 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck pulling a travel trailer roughly 10 to 14 MPG. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop to Indian Lake and back, a Class C usually burns around $150 to $200 in gas at current Midwest prices. Check live regional pricing on the U.S. Energy Information Administration site before you book. Pro tip: fill up at the Pilot or Flying J near I-75 in Lima before heading north or south to avoid pricier in-town stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lima?
Booking 3 to 6 months ahead is the smart play for peak summer, while shoulder seasons often have same-week openings. Ohio State Parks like Indian Lake and Grand Lake St. Marys open reservations up to six months in advance through the official Ohio State Parks reservation system, and prime lakeside sites for July and August routinely sell out within hours. Private parks like Wapakoneta KOA and Gilboa Quarry also fill fast for holiday weekends. Ottawa Metro Park in Lima is first-come, first-served, which is great for spontaneous trips. Pro tip: if your dates are locked, book the campground first and then your RVezy rental, so your itinerary aligns perfectly.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/reserve-a-spotWhat are driving conditions like around Lima?
Lima is one of the easiest Ohio cities to drive an RV through. The terrain is flat farmland, I-75 cuts north-south through town with wide lanes and tall clearances, and US-30 provides an easy east-west route toward Fort Wayne or Mansfield. There are no mountain passes or tight switchbacks anywhere nearby. Watch for spring and summer thunderstorms (April through August) that can bring high winds and occasional tornado warnings, and budget extra time in winter when snow squalls can move through. Pro tip: avoid the late-afternoon pinch on Bellefontaine Avenue between 4 and 6 p.m. by routing around on Cable Road or staying on I-75 to your campground.
ohgo.com/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Lima?
Most campgrounds around Lima offer the essentials you need for a smooth stay. Expect 30 and 50 amp electric, potable water, and a dump station at the majority of parks, with full sewer hookups available at Wapakoneta KOA and many sites at Indian Lake State Park and Grand Lake St. Marys State Park. Free potable water fill is typically available at state park entrance stations. Wi-Fi quality varies, but Verizon and AT&T cellular coverage is generally strong throughout Allen and Auglaize counties. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground, because dump-and-fill stations on I-75 between Lima and Toledo can be limited.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-propertyWhat's typically included inside a Lima RV rental?
Lima rentals come ready for adventure. Most motorhomes and travel trailers on RVezy include a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk beds, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelted seats for travel. Many hosts also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and camp chairs. Generators or solar are common on Class B and Class C rigs for off-grid stays. Each listing on RVezy spells out exactly what's included, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count to match your group size, and message the host to confirm bedding and kitchen basics are provided before you start packing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lima%2C%20OhioWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Lima offer flexible add-ons to make your trip easier. Common extras include camping kits (dishes, linens, towels), outdoor packages (chairs, grill, propane), bike racks, generators, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is widely available, with fees set per mile by the host. Pickup is usually from the host's home in Lima or surrounding towns like Bath Township, Elida, or Cridersville, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Mileage policies vary, but expect 100 to 150 included miles per night with overage typically charged per additional mile. Pro tip: bundling delivery, a camping kit, and a generator often costs less than buying gear, especially for a first time renting an RV experience.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lima%2C%20OhioHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card when you book, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit, separate from your booking payment, is held on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape per the listing terms. To avoid deductions, do a walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's fuel and dump instructions, and report any issues right away through the app. Pro tip: a quick interior phone-video sweep takes 90 seconds and saves headaches later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Lima during winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals are available in Lima and can be a peaceful, budget-friendly way to camp. Lima winters average highs in the 30s with lows dipping into the teens and roughly 20 to 30 inches of snowfall per season, so you'll want a winter-ready rig. Filter RVezy listings for heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a strong furnace, and look for hosts experienced with cold-weather setups. Many Ohio State Parks offer year-round electric sites, including Indian Lake. Bring extra propane, a heated water hose, and skirting if you're staying multiple nights. Pro tip: book hosts who offer winter delivery and setup so your RV is pre-warmed and ready when you arrive, especially helpful for holiday family gatherings.
