RV camping near Lincoln Heights, Ohio
Lincoln Heights is a small CDP in Richland County, north-central Ohio, positioned within easy driving range of the Mohican region, one of the state's most popular outdoor destinations. RV travelers based here have access to both large public campgrounds on reservoir lakes and smaller private RV parks tucked into the surrounding farmland and river valleys.
The closest options run from lakefront sites at Charles Mill Lake Park Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist, a Muskingum Watershed reservoir park just east of Mansfield, to primitive walk-in camping at Malabar Farm State Park in Lucas. Full-hookup travelers tend to head to River Trail Crossing RV Park or Butler / Mohican KOA Journey, both close to Butler along the Clear Fork corridor.
Mohican State Park, roughly a half-hour south, anchors the region with a large family campground along the Clear Fork of the Mohican River. Combined, these properties give travelers a mix of lake, river, forest, and farm settings within a short drive of Lincoln Heights.
Things to do near Lincoln Heights
The Mohican area is built around river recreation. Tubing, kayaking, and canoeing on the Clear Fork and main Mohican River are the region's signature activities, with liveries in Loudonville handling shuttles. Anglers target stocked brown trout in the Clear Fork and panfish and bass on Charles Mill and Pleasant Hill lakes.
On land, Mohican State Park and the adjacent Mohican-Memorial State Forest carry more than 50 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and bridle trails, plus the Clear Fork Gorge overlook and a covered bridge. The Richland B. & O. Trail runs a paved route from Butler toward Mansfield along farmland and the Clear Fork.
Families often add a tour of Malabar Farm, the historic estate of author Louis Bromfield, and a stop at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on race weekends.

Peak season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Mohican State Park's swimming pool and nature center operate on this window, and visitors are not permitted to drive through the family campground during summer to protect registered campers. Weekend and holiday sites at Mohican and MWCD lakes fill weeks in advance, and Mohican requires a two-night minimum for weekend reservations.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler, with fall color peaking mid to late October. Through the winter, Mohican shifts to off-peak operation: water at the site is shut off, though water remains available at the dump station, and Showerhouse 1 stays open. Select loops in the Class A campground remain open year-round.
Winter camping is possible at Mohican but facilities are limited, and the Mohican-Memorial State Forest park-and-pack sites should be avoided during deer gun season in December. Malabar Farm's primitive campground is walk-in only and can be sloped; travelers with larger rigs should plan around it.

How to book campgrounds near Lincoln Heights
Ohio State Parks, including Mohican and Malabar Farm, use ReserveOhio. Campsites open up to six months in advance and cabins up to one year in advance, online at reserveohio.com or by phone at (866) 644-6727. Walk-in camping is not accepted, and weekend reservations require a two-night minimum.
Muskingum Watershed properties, including Charles Mill Lake Park Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist and nearby Pleasant Hill Lake, book through the MWCD reservation portal at reserve.mwcd.org. Check-in is 4:00 PM and camping check-out is 2:00 PM.
Butler / Mohican KOA Journey books directly through KOA. River Trail Crossing RV Park is reserved directly with the property.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in this region trend wooded and rolling rather than flat and open. At Mohican State Park, the Class A campground offers full-hookup, electric, and non-electric sites, with some non-electric sites along the river; the separate Class B area holds first-come, first-served primitive sites farther down the river valley.
Butler / Mohican KOA Journey accommodates larger rigs with pull-through sites and a seasonal pool that runs during the summer window. Charles Mill Lake Park offers a mix of lakeview and wooded sites across more than 400 spots in two campgrounds, plus a swimming beach on a 10-horsepower-limit lake.
Cell service is spotty in the forest, GPS routing to the KOA is unreliable (follow posted directions from I-71 Exit 165), and pets are welcome on-leash at most parks.
