Lordstown sits in Trumbull County in northeast Ohio, along the I-80 and I-76 corridors between Youngstown, Warren, and Akron. RV travelers use the town as a base for lake recreation in the Mahoning Valley and Western Reserve region, with several developed campgrounds within a short drive.
The closest full-service option is Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday, a 42-acre park about a mile off I-76 with big-rig-friendly RV sites, Deluxe Cabins, and a private swimming lake. Ridge Ranch Campground in Newton Falls sits three miles off I-80 and centers on a large private lake. Country Acres Campground and Fun Park and Western Reserve Campground add more family-oriented private options in the area.
For public-land camping, Mosquito Lake State Park sits north of Lordstown near Cortland and runs a large lakeside campground on one of Ohio's largest inland lakes. The mix of KOA, private family parks, and a state park gives travelers a range of hookup levels and amenities within a 30-minute drive.
Things to do near Lordstown
Water recreation drives most trips. Mosquito Lake covers roughly 7,850 acres, with five boat ramps, a marina offering fuel and boat rentals, a 600-foot sandy swim beach, and year-round fishing for walleye, bass, crappie, and northern pike. Lake Milton and Berlin Lake add more boating and shoreline fishing minutes from I-76.
On-park amenities include an 18-hole disc golf course, an archery range, and a 5-acre off-leash dog park at Mosquito Lake State Park, plus a swimming lake with inflatables, a jumping pillow, mini golf, and gem mining at Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday. Ridge Ranch Campground has a 17-acre lake with a sandy beach and swimming deck, paddleboat and canoe rentals, and mini golf.
Day trips from Lordstown reach Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park for rock-gorge hiking, the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, and Amish Country to the west.

The main camping season in northeast Ohio runs from late April through mid-October. Ridge Ranch Campground is open May 1 through October 15, and other private parks in the area follow a similar schedule. The Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday runs a full activity calendar through the warm months, with the swimming lake open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend and monthly sites available year-round.
Mosquito Lake State Park Campground stays open year-round, but from November 1 through April 1 full-service sites have no water at the site, showerhouses are closed, and only pit latrines are available. Fees are reduced during this off-peak stretch. The park's two yurts are available from mid-April through October.
Summer weekends and holidays fill first, especially lakefront and full-service sites at Mosquito Lake and the KOA. Fall brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and foliage color across the Western Reserve. Winter camping is possible at Mosquito Lake for self-contained rigs, but expect snow, lake-effect squalls, and limited services.

We had the most amazing trip and lived in luxury renting from Starla! We had EVERYTHING we needed from clean beds, blankets, kitchen supplies, utensils, towels, and even awesome movie sections for our kids to watch at night. We were celebrating our son’s bday and she even put a little treat in the fridge for him. It was so sweet and he loved it. I am looking forward to renting again in the future! Who would’ve thought camping could ever be so easy and relaxing?!?! I cannot thank you enough Starla for the amazing trip we had!! 💕

How to book
Mosquito Lake State Park Campground takes reservations through the ReserveOhio system at reserveohio.com or by phone at 866-644-6727. Sites are bookable up to six months in advance, and popular summer weekends and the two lakeside yurts tend to go early.
Private campgrounds handle their own bookings. Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday reserves through koa.com or by phone, with holiday weekends carrying stricter cancellation rules and typical multi-night minimums. Ridge Ranch Campground, Country Acres Campground and Fun Park, and Western Reserve Campground book directly with the operator by phone or website; Ridge Ranch requires a one-night deposit and a two-night minimum for holiday weekends.
For summer holiday weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, book several months out. Shoulder-season weekdays in May, September, and October usually have same-week availability.
What to expect
Terrain around Lordstown is gently rolling farmland and mixed hardwood forest at roughly 900 to 1,100 feet elevation. Roads to the campgrounds are paved and easy for larger RVs; Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday sits about a mile off I-76 and Ridge Ranch Campground is about three miles off I-80.
Site types range from primitive tent pads to 50-amp full-hookup pull-throughs. Mosquito Lake State Park offers full-service, standard electric, and non-electric sites plus two yurts, with modern showerhouses available April through October. Private parks typically add swim lakes, camp stores, laundry, and weekend activity programs.
Cell coverage is generally reliable across the Mahoning Valley. Mosquitoes and biting flies peak in June and July near the lakes, so pack repellent. Firewood should be sourced locally to comply with Ohio quarantine rules on moving untreated wood.

On RVezy, travel trailers in the Lordstown and Youngstown-Warren area typically run $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $295 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes can reach $250 to $400 per night. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lordstown,OhioWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Lordstown, OH?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lordstown, Ohio. The State of Ohio does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for non-commercial motorhomes or travel trailers driven for personal use, regardless of size. To book on RVezy you'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid driver's license, and RVezy will verify your ID securely during checkout. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) issued before you travel. That's it, you're cleared to hit the road toward Mosquito Lake or Cuyahoga Valley.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Lordstown?
You can book your Lordstown RV trip with real peace of mind. Every RVezy booking includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is one phone call away whether you're at Mosquito Lake State Park or on I-80 heading to Cleveland. The protection plan covers physical damage to the vehicle during your rental and provides liability coverage that goes beyond a typical auto policy. During checkout you'll choose from multiple protection tiers, with higher tiers offering lower deductibles and more coverage. It's purpose-built for RV rentals, which is exactly what a smart Ohio road tripper wants.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Lordstown RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk, which is exactly how it should be. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every rental (hosts do not), so you'll see consistent, predictable terms no matter which listing you choose in Lordstown or the wider Youngstown-Warren area. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and refund eligibility after that depends on how far out from your trip start date you cancel and whether a covered event applies. Lake-effect snow squalls off Lake Erie can occasionally disrupt winter travel, so it's reassuring to know flexibility is built into your booking. Review the current cancellation policy on RVezy before you confirm and travel with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on my Lordstown RV trip?
Yes, bringing the dog is part of the fun. Many hosts on RVezy offer pet-friendly RV rental in Lordstown, OH, so you can just check the Pet-Friendly filter when browsing listings. Once you've picked a pet-friendly rig, you've got fantastic local options: Mosquito Lake State Park in Cortland has leashed-pet areas and a dedicated pet beach, Mill Creek MetroParks in nearby Youngstown welcomes leashed dogs on most trails, and the Western Reserve Greenway Trail offers 43 miles of flat, paved walking from Warren north toward Ashtabula. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl since Ohio summers can hit the upper 80s, and bring proof of rabies vaccination for state park stays.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/mosquito-lake-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground in the Lordstown area?
Absolutely, and it's one of the best ways to start your trip stress-free. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Lordstown and across Trumbull and Mahoning Counties, meaning they'll drop the RV at your campsite or driveway, level it, hook it up to shore power and water, and walk you through every system. Popular delivery destinations include Mosquito Lake State Park (about 15 miles north), Berlin Lake Campground (about 25 miles southwest), and Pymatuning State Park on the Pennsylvania line. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your destination address to confirm the delivery fee, which is usually based on round-trip mileage.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lordstown,OhioHow do mileage limits work for an RV rental in Lordstown, OH?
Mileage is simpler than you'd think. Hosts on RVezy set their own daily mileage allowance, which you'll see right on the listing page before booking. Around Lordstown, typical packages include 100 to 150 free miles per day, with additional miles billed at roughly $0.30 to $0.45 each. Some hosts even offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for a longer Lordstown RV trip. To help you plan: Cleveland is about 65 miles west, Pittsburgh is 70 miles southeast, Cuyahoga Valley National Park is 55 miles west, and Niagara Falls is about 200 miles north. If you know your route, ask the host for a flat-rate mileage add-on, which often beats paying per-mile overage.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lordstown,OhioWhat are the best campgrounds near Lordstown for an RV trip?
You're spoiled for choice when RV camping in Lordstown. The best campgrounds near Lordstown include Mosquito Lake State Park in Cortland (about 15 miles north, with electric sites and a beach on the 7,850-acre reservoir), Punderson State Park near Newbury (about 45 miles northwest, with electric and full-hookup sites in a glacial lake setting), Pymatuning State Park near Andover (about 35 miles northeast, straddling the Ohio-Pennsylvania border), and Berlin Lake managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (about 25 miles southwest). Mosquito Lake books up fast for summer weekends, so reserve as soon as your dates are firm.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/mosquito-lake-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Lordstown, OH?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Lordstown. Summer days from June through August average highs in the low 80s with warm nights perfect for campfires, while September and early October bring crisp 60 to 70 degree days and spectacular fall foliage across the Western Reserve, especially along the Mahoning River and around Mosquito Lake. Spring (April to mid-May) is quieter, greener, and great for booking deals, though expect rain. Winters in Trumbull County are genuinely snowy with lake-effect snow off Lake Erie and lows in the teens, so most campgrounds close from November through April. Pro tip: book a fall foliage week in early October and drive the scenic byways through Geauga County, you won't regret it.
weather.gov/cle/I'm a first-time RV renter. Will I be able to handle it?
You've got this, and you won't be alone. If it's your first time renting an RV, every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at your delivery location), walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, the propane system, slide-outs, and waste tanks. You can also message the host directly from any listing before you book to ask about driving feel, the best beginner-friendly rigs, or local routes. Around Lordstown, the wide, flat roads near State Route 45 and the rural stretches around Mosquito Lake are great for getting comfortable behind the wheel. For total ease, start with a smaller Class C motorhome or a travel trailer with delivery included, then graduate to a bigger rig on your next trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lordstown,OhioWhat happens if I have a roadside issue during my Lordstown RV trip?
Help is built into every booking, so a flat tire or dead battery doesn't have to derail your trip. Every RVezy rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering tire changes, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. From Lordstown you're close to plenty of help: the Ohio Turnpike (I-80) runs right through town with full service plazas, and RV service centers operate in Streetsboro, Austintown, and Niles, all within a 25-mile radius. Save the RVezy support number in your phone and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so any service call goes faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Lordstown RV rental on a cross-state or cross-border road trip?
Yes, an RV road trip from Lordstown is one of the best things about renting here. Most RVezy hosts allow interstate travel throughout the U.S., and many also permit cross-border trips into Canada, which is appealing given Niagara Falls is only about 200 miles north. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance doesn't extend south of the border. Popular routes from Lordstown include Cuyahoga Valley National Park (55 miles), Pittsburgh and the Laurel Highlands (70 to 110 miles), Presque Isle on Lake Erie (75 miles), Niagara Falls, NY (200 miles), and the Finger Lakes (about 220 miles). Message the host before booking to confirm your route and bring your passport for any Canadian leg.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripWhat should I budget for fuel on a Lordstown RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second biggest cost after the rental itself, but it's easy to plan for. Ohio gas prices are typically among the lowest in the Great Lakes region, often running 20 to 40 cents below the national average, and you'll find competitive prices at the Pilot, Flying J, and TA travel centers right off I-80 at Exit 218 in Lordstown. Expect a Class C motorhome to get 8 to 10 miles per gallon, a Class A around 6 to 8 mpg, and a tow-behind travel trailer (with a capable truck) about 10 to 14 mpg. For a 4-day, 400-mile trip in a Class C, budget roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: use GasBuddy and fill up in Ohio before crossing into Pennsylvania, where prices typically run higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lordstown?
Booking ahead pays off, especially for the most popular spots. Ohio State Park campgrounds, including Mosquito Lake, Punderson, and Pymatuning, open reservations up to six months in advance through the official ReserveOhio system, and summer weekends (especially July 4th and Labor Day) sell out within minutes of release. For private parks like Ridge Ranch and Paradise Lakes Family Campground, two to three months out is usually plenty for weekends, and you can often grab a midweek site within a few days of arrival. Federal Army Corps sites at Berlin Lake book through Recreation.gov, also with a six-month window. Pro tip: if Mosquito Lake is full, check back 7 to 10 days before your trip, as cancellations are common.
reserveohio.com/What are driving conditions like around Lordstown, OH?
Driving an RV around Lordstown is genuinely easy compared to most metros. The terrain is gently rolling, roads are wide, and the area sits at the intersection of the Ohio Turnpike (I-80) and SR-45, giving you fast, RV-friendly access in every direction. The main thing to know: northeast Ohio gets lake-effect snow from Lake Erie between November and March, with occasional whiteout squalls on I-90 and I-80, so most travelers stick to May through October. Watch for low clearances under older railroad bridges on county roads (some are under 12 feet), stick to state highways with your motorhome, and avoid the narrow streets of downtown Youngstown if you're in anything over 25 feet. The Ohio Turnpike is the safest, smoothest route across the region.
ohgo.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Lordstown?
You'll find a great mix of comfort and nature at campgrounds around Lordstown. Most full-service parks like Ridge Ranch, Paradise Lakes, and Yankee Lake offer 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, and a dump station. Ohio State Parks like Mosquito Lake provide electric hookups (no sewer at the site) plus centralized dump stations and potable water fill spigots near the entrance, which is standard for state parks. Most parks have flush toilets, playgrounds, and a camp store. To fill fresh water and dump tanks between trips, the Lordstown Travel Plaza area and several Trumbull County parks have public dump stations. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a sewer hose, since not every site supplies them.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/mosquito-lake-state-parkWhat's inside the RVs available for rent in Lordstown?
You'll be impressed by how loaded these rigs are. Motorhome rental in Lordstown typically includes a full kitchen (fridge/freezer, three-burner propane stove, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 4 to 8 people in a mix of queen beds, bunks, and convertible dinettes, roof-mounted air conditioning, propane furnace, and a generator or shore power hookup. Most Class C and Class A units include a flat-screen TV and many offer Wi-Fi hotspots or starlink as an add-on. For a campervan rental in Lordstown, expect a more compact setup with a galley kitchen, fold-out bed, and easier driving footprint, which is great for solo travelers and couples. Every rig has DOT-required seatbelts; the listing tells you exactly how many seated and how many sleeps.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options are available when I rent an RV in Lordstown?
There's a lot you can customize. Popular add-ons from Lordstown-area hosts include kitchen kits (pots, plates, utensils) for $25 to $50, linen and bedding packages for $25 to $75, portable generators for $20 to $40 per night, bikes, kayaks, outdoor grills, camping chairs, and Wi-Fi hotspots. For pickup, you can typically meet the host at their home address in the Lordstown, Warren, Niles, or Youngstown area, or pay a delivery fee to have the RV brought to your campground. Mileage policies vary by host: some offer 100 free miles per day, others offer unlimited mileage for an upcharge. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking rather than adding them later, hosts often discount the total when you pick a few items together.
transportation.ohio.gov/programs/maps/ohio-mapHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Lordstown RV rental?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure. You pay the full rental cost (plus taxes and any add-ons) through RVezy at booking using a credit or debit card, so there's no cash changing hands at pickup. A refundable security deposit is separate from the booking payment and is held on your card a few days before your trip starts. Deposit amounts vary by RV class and host but typically range from $500 to $1,500 for rentals around Lordstown. As long as the RV is returned on time, clean, with a full fuel tank, and without new damage, your deposit is released back to your card within a few days of trip end. Take dated photos and a quick walk-around video at both pickup and drop-off; it's the easiest way to protect your deposit and keep things smooth with your host.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a family RV trip from Lordstown a good idea for first-timers?
It's one of the best family trips you can plan. A family RV trip from Lordstown puts you within 90 minutes of three state parks, two national park units, and Lake Erie beaches, all without long highway days that test kids' patience. Easy crowd-pleasers include Mosquito Lake State Park for swimming and fishing (15 miles), Cuyahoga Valley National Park for the Scenic Railroad and Brandywine Falls (55 miles), and Geneva-on-the-Lake on the Lake Erie shore (75 miles) for old-school arcades and beachfront fun. Filter listings by Sleeps 6 or Sleeps 8, Pet-Friendly if you've got a dog, and Delivery so the host sets everything up at the campground. By the time you're roasting marshmallows, the only question will be when to book the next one.
