Campgrounds and RV parks near Luckey, OH

The main draws are Toledo and Lake Erie. Families staying at Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey are within a short drive of the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium, the Toledo Museum of Art, and Toledo Mud Hens minor league baseball games. Fort Meigs, built by William Henry Harrison in 1813, is the largest walled fortification in America, with blockhouses containing exhibits from Ohio's participation in the War of 1812, and is a common day trip from Perrysburg on the Maumee River. On the Lake Erie side, Maumee Bay State Park has a swimming beach, an inland lake, and five miles of asphalt bicycle and pedestrian trails that provide access to most day-use areas. Birdwatching is a major draw during spring migration, with more than 300 bird species observed at the park. Van Buren State Park adds bridle trails, hiking, and fishing on Van Buren Lake to the south.

Peak camping season in northwest Ohio runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with warm, humid days and busy weekends. Reservations at Maumee Bay State Park and Van Buren State Park fill quickly for summer holidays and for spring warbler migration in early to mid-May, when Lake Erie's marshes draw birders from across the country. Shoulder seasons (April to mid-May and September through October) are quieter and cooler, and fall color along the Maumee River makes late September and October a good window for a low-key trip. Maumee Bay State Park Campground is open year-round, and Van Buren State Park is also open year-round with reservations available through ReserveOhio.com, though winter service is reduced. Winter camping is possible but limited. Shower houses at Maumee Bay are heated May through October, with two heated family restrooms serving the off-season from November through April, and full-hookup sites do not have water during winter months. Some private parks in the area, including the KOA, operate seasonally and shut water off at sites in the cold months.

Terrain around Luckey is flat, which makes for easy driving and level sites. Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey is wooded with mature shade trees throughout, and offers mini golf, horseshoes, cornhole, a gem mine, a playground, and a KampK9 dog area. The park delivers firewood to sites. Maumee Bay's campground offers 256 sites with 20-30-50 amp electric hookups, and sites 1-11 and 21-29 feature full hookups including water and sewer, though water is only available at these sites during warmer months. Sites are open and spacious with shrubs for privacy. Van Buren State Park lacks showers and flush toilets, so the full hookup sites make it an excellent choice for self-contained RVs.
