Campgrounds and RV parks near Mendon, OH

Water recreation dominates. Grand Lake St Marys offers 52 miles of shoreline for boating and fishing, as well as a family campground, swimming pool, and picnic areas. Boat docks provide direct lake access for fishing and boating, though swimming in the lake itself is prohibited due to water quality concerns. The campground pool and splash pad are the main swim option on hot days. At Lake Loramie, there is no limit to horsepower, but the entire lake is classified as no wake with the exception of the designated speed zone at the west end. Water skiing and tubing are prohibited. The park features an 18-hole disc golf course. Lake Loramie provides good catches of crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, bullheads, carp, and fair numbers of largemouth bass. Canoe and kayak rentals, hiking trails, and a swimming beach round out the day.

Peak camping runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with waterfront sites at both state parks filling early for summer weekends and holidays. Camping availability in the region typically runs from April through October, with some campgrounds like Grand Lake St. Marys and Lake Loramie State Parks remaining open year-round. Many campsites require reservations, particularly for summer weekends and holiday periods when waterfront sites fill quickly. Summer brings a specific caution at Grand Lake St Marys. The lake has a long history of toxic algae outbreaks, and has had a toxic bloom every year since then, and there are many indications that blooms occurred even earlier (tracked from 2010). Beaches are posted with warnings urging the public to avoid all contact with the water and that swimming and wading are not recommended during elevated advisories. Boating and fishing typically continue. Spring and fall are cooler and less crowded, with fall generally drier and lower in biting insects. In winter, Lake Loramie offers ice fishing, sledding and snowmobiling. Grand Lake St Marys' campground stays open year-round, though the park designates an off-peak season from November 1 to April 1.

At Grand Lake St Marys, the campground offers a diverse mix of around 200 campsites: 148 electric sites, 33 full hookup sites with water and sewer, and 10 standard non-electric sites, plus seven rustic rental cabins with lake views. All roads and site pads are paved, with both pull-through and back-in options available. Reviewers note that pull-through sites work best for units under 35 feet if towing a vehicle. Lake Loramie's campground offers full hook-up, electric and non-electric campsites for RVs, campers, or tent camping as well as Cedar Cabins for visitors without a tent or RV, with 42 sites with full hook-ups, 4 lakeside and 4 ADA compliant, plus 120 electric sites, 40 of which are premium. Expect flat terrain, some wooded loops, and premium lake-adjacent electric sites that go quickly. Standard state park rules apply: quiet hours, alcohol only at the rented site, and pets allowed in most loops but not in cabins. Bring bug spray in late spring and early summer.
