Campgrounds and RV parks near Mentor, OH

Mentor sits on the south shore of Lake Erie in Lake County, roughly 25 miles northeast of Cleveland. The city is bordered by Headlands Beach State Park, the longest natural beach in Ohio, and the Mentor Marsh State Nature Preserve, which shape most of the outdoor recreation in the immediate area. Because Headlands is day-use only, RV travellers base themselves at private parks along the lake plain or at state park campgrounds in the wooded Geauga County uplands to the south. The closest overnight options include Maywood Community and Hidden Lakes Family Campground for private-park hookups, along with Roundup Lake RV Park inland. For a state-run experience, Punderson State Park is a 741-acre public recreation area in Newbury, Ohio, featuring a 150-acre natural lake about 35 minutes south of Mentor. To the east, Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA Holiday sits in Ohio wine country. Together these properties give RV travellers a mix of full-hookup resort camping, lakefront state park sites, and rural family campgrounds within a short drive of Mentor.

Ohio State Parks, including Punderson State Park, are booked through the state's reserveohio.com system. Reservations are required for all sites and may be made up to six months in advance online or by calling (866) 644-6727. Popular summer weekends at Punderson often sell out within minutes of the six-month window opening, so calendar reminders help. Private campgrounds handle their own reservations. Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA Holiday takes bookings through the KOA website or by phone, and stays longer than 28 days require contacting the park directly rather than booking online. Maywood Community, Hidden Lakes Family Campground and Roundup Lake RV Park use their own booking pages and typically require a deposit at reservation. Holiday weekends often carry a minimum-night stay.
