Campgrounds and RV parks near Middle Point, OH

On-site activities dominate the private parks near Middle Point. Huggy Bear Campground and RV Sales runs multiple swimming pools, a stocked fishing pond, a splash pad, an 18-hole mini golf course, and scheduled weekend events for kids. Timberwoods RV Park has wooded sites, a swimming pool, a fishing pond, putt-putt golf, sand volleyball, and weekend activities aimed at families. Off-site, the Grand Lake St. Marys area opens up boating, fishing, and paved multi-use trails along both the East Bank and West Bank. The lake holds largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, walleye, catfish, and yellow perch, and eight state-operated launch ramps provide access. Swimming in the lake itself is not permitted due to water-quality advisories, so plan on the state park's pool or a campground pool for cooling off.

The private campgrounds near Middle Point run a standard northern-Ohio season. Huggy Bear Campground and RV Sales operates roughly mid-April through the end of October, and Timberwoods RV Park runs on a similar April to October window. Peak demand hits Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends, plus the summer school-break stretch in between. Grand Lake St. Marys State Park is different: the campground operates year-round, with an off-peak season from November 1 to April 1 when only limited electric in the first loop, a dump station, and a water hydrant near the main office are available. Full amenities, including the pool and splash pad, run through the warm-weather months. Shoulder seasons in April and October can be cold and wet, and pools and some activity areas may still be closed. Late spring through early fall is the sweet spot for a family RV trip, with warm days, long daylight, and the full lineup of campground amenities open.

The parks closest to Middle Point are commercial family campgrounds with a large seasonal-camper base, so expect a lived-in community feel, kids on bikes and golf carts, and organized weekend events rather than a quiet, wilderness setting. Sites at Huggy Bear are generally spacious with pull-throughs available, and the property is big enough that a golf cart is handy. Grand Lake St. Marys State Park has paved roads and site pads with a mix of pull-through and back-in sites. Reviewers note that pull-throughs work best for rigs under about 35 feet if towing. Modern restrooms with hot showers, a camp store, and a swimming pool with splash pad are on site. Cell coverage is generally solid across the Van Wert area on major carriers. Terrain is flat, so leveling is easy at most sites, and mosquitoes near ponds and the lake can be persistent in mid-summer.
