Campgrounds and RV parks near Middlefield, OH

Punderson State Park anchors outdoor activity in the area with swimming, paddling, disc golf, an 18-hole golf course, and a network of hiking trails around Punderson Lake. Only hand-powered boats and boats with electric motors are permitted, and the lake is stocked for fishing. In town, Middlefield draws visitors for Amish culture, cheese production, and country markets. Family-style restaurants such as Mary Yoder's Amish Kitchen serve traditional Amish cooking, and weekly livestock auctions, quilt shops, bulk-food stores, and buggy traffic on the back roads are part of the everyday scene. Day trips reach Cuyahoga Valley National Park in about an hour, plus the Lake Erie shoreline, Geauga County parks, and the wineries of the Grand River Valley.

Summer is the primary RV season around Middlefield. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, private parks run full programming and Punderson State Park's campground stays busy on weekends. Days are warm, lake swimming is comfortable, and the Great Geauga County Fair over Labor Day weekend, held in nearby Burton, is the oldest continuously running county fair in Ohio. Spring and fall are quieter but rewarding. May and June bring wildflowers and lower bug pressure on the trails, while late September and October deliver strong hardwood color across the Chagrin and Grand River watersheds. Nights cool quickly in October, so heated RVs have an advantage. Winter is harsh. Geauga County sits inside the Lake Erie snowbelt and receives some of the heaviest snowfall in Ohio, averaging roughly 100 inches a season in the Chardon area. Most private campgrounds close for the season, and Punderson shifts to limited winter operations focused on sledding, cross-country skiing, and lodge stays rather than tent or RV camping.

Roads into the campgrounds around Middlefield are paved county and state routes, generally easy for larger RVs, though the final approach to some private parks includes narrow lanes and low tree cover. Drivers should watch for Amish buggies, especially near sunrise, sunset, and on Sundays. Hookups vary. Punderson State Park offers non-electric, electric, and full-service sites, with most electric sites at 20-amp service and full-hookup sites at 30 or 50 amp, and some sites are not level, so leveling blocks are useful. The nearby private parks generally offer full hookups on many sites, plus amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and stocked fishing lakes aimed at families. Cell coverage is reliable in and around town but can be spotty on wooded loops. Mosquitoes are active near the lakes from June through August, so standard food storage and screen habits apply.
