Campgrounds near Middleport, Ohio
Middleport sits on the Ohio River in Meigs County, at the edge of Appalachian southeast Ohio. RV renters basing here have access to a mix of full-hookup private parks and rustic state park campgrounds within a short drive on either side of the river.
Across the river in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, Mothman Festival Campground offers tent and RV sites and puts travelers minutes from the Mothman Museum and downtown attractions. About 20 minutes upriver in Racine, Kountry Resort Campground spans roughly 98 acres with over 230 sites, full hookups with 20, 30, and 50 amp service, an indoor pool, and four stocked fishing lakes.
Heading north toward Athens, Carthage Gap Campground in Coolville has 135 full-hookup sites atop a rolling hill with two spring-fed ponds. Forked Run State Park near Reedsville and Strouds Run State Park near Athens round out the public-land options, offering lake access, hiking, and a quieter, more primitive experience in the forested hills.
Things to do near Middleport
Water activities anchor most trips. Forked Run State Park has a sand beach, a lake with boat launch ramps and rentals, and shoreline fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie. Strouds Run State Park sits above Dow Lake, a 161-acre lake with a swimming beach, non-motorized boating, and fishing for bass and crappie.
Hikers and mountain bikers can pick up the trail network at Strouds Run, which winds through the park and adjacent Sells Park. Forked Run has three shorter hiking trails and a disc golf course near the campground.
Off-park, Point Pleasant offers the Mothman Museum, a riverfront statue, and the annual Mothman Festival each September. Marietta and Blennerhassett Island are within reach for river-history day trips.

The main camping season in southeast Ohio runs from spring through late fall. Carthage Gap Campground operates from May 1 through October 31, so shoulder-season travelers should confirm dates before booking. Private parks like Kountry Resort generally run longer seasons.
Forked Run State Park stays open year-round, but Area 1 is the only camping area open from November 1 through April 1, and the Area 1 showerhouse closes from early December through the end of April. The dump station remains open and water is available. Winter campers should plan for limited facilities.
Summer weekends fill fastest at the state parks, and demand spikes in September when the Mothman Festival draws crowds to Point Pleasant and surrounding campgrounds. Fall brings strong color across the oak, hickory, and maple forests of the unglaciated Appalachian Plateau, and it is a quiet window for weekday stays before winter closures take effect.
How to book near Middleport
Ohio State Parks use a central reservation system. Sites at Forked Run State Park can be reserved up to six months in advance online or by calling 866-644-6727. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival, and two vehicles are allowed per site.
Strouds Run State Park works differently. Regular campsites are first-come, first-served with self-registration at the entrance kiosk, and no reservations are taken for standard sites. Camper cabins and the group camp can be reserved by contacting Strouds Run Rentals directly.
Private parks including Kountry Resort Campground, Carthage Gap Campground, and Mothman Festival Campground take direct reservations through their own booking systems. Book Point Pleasant sites well ahead for festival weekend.
What to expect on-site
Hookup levels vary widely. Kountry Resort offers 20, 30, and 50 amp service with full hookups, an indoor pool, an aqua park, a game room, laundry, and modern restrooms, and accepts rigs up to 40 feet. Carthage Gap has 135 full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service, free Wi-Fi, hot showers, and laundry.
State park sites are simpler. Forked Run has 143 sites across five areas, with a mix of electric and non-electric, showerhouses, a dump station, and paved pads. Strouds Run is all-primitive: 57 non-electric sites with fire rings, picnic tables, water spigots, a dump station at the entrance, and pit toilets, no showers.
Cell coverage is generally spotty in the forested valleys. Pets are permitted on select sites at both state parks.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Middleport, OH
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Middleport, OH?
RV rental in Middleport, OH is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Ohio River Valley. Travel trailers typically run $75 to $150 per night, camper vans and Class B options range $125 to $200, and larger Class C motorhomes average $175 to $275 nightly. Because Middleport sits in rural Meigs County, you'll usually pay less than renters near Columbus or Cleveland. To save even more, book midweek stays (Sunday through Thursday), travel in shoulder season (late April or September), and look for travel trailers if you already own a tow vehicle. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings to lock in the best rates before fall foliage season pushes prices up.

Great news for first-time renters: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Middleport. Ohio exempts recreational vehicles from commercial driver's license (CDL) requirements under Ohio Revised Code 4506.03, so a standard Class D license covers every motorhome and travel trailer on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified securely through the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country license. Most rigs in southeastern Ohio are travel trailers and Class C motorhomes well under the 26,000-pound threshold, so there's no extra paperwork or testing involved.

Every RV rental in Middleport, OH on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Ohio River Scenic Byway with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you (not the host) choose your coverage level during checkout, picking the option that best fits your comfort level. While it is not auto insurance, it provides significant financial protection if something unexpected happens. Roadside assistance is bundled in too, covering tire issues, lockouts, and breakdowns whether you are parked at Forked Run State Park or cruising US-33 toward Hocking Hills. You can book your RV trip from Middleport with confidence because RVezy (not individual hosts) sets and manages cancellation policies platform-wide. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and additional flexibility depends on how far ahead of your trip you cancel. Since the Ohio River Valley can occasionally see spring flooding or summer thunderstorms, that flexibility matters. The full policy details live in the RVezy Help Center, and customer support is available before, during, and after every trip if plans change. If your host cancels, RVezy refunds your booking or offers credit so you can rebook with another host. Lock in your dates now and stay flexible later.

Wayne National Forest's Marietta Unit, just up the Ohio River, is also dog-friendly with miles of leashed trails. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and ask about a fenced area for pickup day, then pack a tie-out and water bowl for those riverside breaks.

Many RVezy hosts in southeastern Ohio offer delivery and setup directly to local campgrounds like Forked Run State Park or a private driveway or family reunion site along the Ohio River. Your host will level the rig, connect water and electric, and give you a full orientation walkthrough so you can focus on the fun. ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/hocking-hills-state-parkWhere are the best campgrounds near Middleport, OH?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping near Middleport. Forked Run State Park (Reedsville, about 25 minutes north) offers electric and non-electric sites with a dump station, showers, and lake access, reservable through ReserveOhio. Strouds Run State Park near Athens (about 45 miles) and Hocking Hills State Park Campground (about 55 miles northwest) both book up fast in peak season. ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/forked-run-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Middleport, OH?
Middleport sits in a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons, and the sweet spot for RV camping is late April through mid-June and again September through late October. Spring brings 60s to mid-70s daytime highs and blooming dogwoods along the Ohio River. Early fall delivers crisp 60 to 75 degree days and spectacular foliage in the Wayne National Forest, often considered some of the best leaf-peeping in Ohio. July and August are warm and humid (mid-80s with heat indices near 95F) but great for swimming at Forked Run. Winter dips into the 20s and 30s, so most state park campgrounds close, but a few hosts offer winter-ready rigs. Pro tip: book mid-October for fall colors before they peak.
forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=38.9948&lon=-82.0643I've never rented an RV before. Will I be able to handle it?
You'll do great, even on your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, tanks, propane, and hookups so nothing feels mysterious. Most renters in Middleport choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer (both drive much like a large van or truck), and the rural roads around Meigs County are forgiving for practice. Before booking, message the host with any questions, they're usually quick to respond. Pro tip: pick a smaller rig (20 to 25 feet) for your first trip and head straight to Forked Run State Park, where the campground loops are paved and easy to navigate. You'll be a confident RVer by night two.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/forked-run-state-parkWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every rent an RV in Middleport booking through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. Your host is also a phone call away and knows their RV inside out. Plus, RVezy customer support is available throughout your trip if you need help coordinating. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and roadside number before you leave the pickup spot, just in case you need them later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Middleport RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate RV travel from Middleport is allowed and popular. You're just minutes from West Virginia (the Ohio River bridge to Mason, WV is right downtown), about 90 minutes from Kentucky, and a few hours from Pennsylvania, all great RV road trip routes from Middleport. Popular loops include the Ohio River Scenic Byway through WV to Marietta and Wheeling, or a Hocking Hills to Cuyahoga Valley National Park adventure. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on the host and the protection plan you select, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: a quick WV detour to Blennerhassett Island near Parkersburg makes a beautiful day trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for your Middleport RV trip is straightforward. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A rigs get 6 to 10 MPG, camper vans manage 14 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 15 MPG combined). Ohio gas prices typically run near or slightly below the national average. For a typical 4-day, 300-mile trip in a Class C, expect to spend roughly $90 to $140 on fuel at current prices. Pro tip: top off in Pomeroy or Gallipolis before heading into Wayne National Forest, gas stations get sparse on the smaller routes south of Middleport.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Middleport?
For the best sites, book early, but you've got more flexibility here than near big metros. Ohio State Park campgrounds (Forked Run, Strouds Run, Hocking Hills) use the ReserveOhio system and open reservations 6 months in advance. Hocking Hills weekends from May through October sell out fast, so book those 4 to 6 months ahead. Forked Run, being more off-the-beaten-path, often has availability just 2 to 4 weeks out, even in summer. Private parks in the area are typically bookable by phone or online with shorter lead times. Pro tip: midweek stays at Forked Run are almost always available, even in peak fall foliage season. Lock in your RV first, then your site.
reserveohio.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Middleport?
Driving an RV around Middleport is genuinely pleasant once you know what to expect. Traffic is light, the Ohio River runs along your west side as a great landmark, and major routes like State Route 7, State Route 124, and US-33 are well-maintained with gentle grades. Just stay aware of two things: the rolling Appalachian foothills mean some curves and grades (nothing extreme, but downshift on descents), and spring brings occasional Ohio River flooding that can close low-lying river roads, so check Ohio Department of Transportation alerts before you go. Avoid narrow township roads in the hills if you're driving anything over 28 feet. Pro tip: the river route from Middleport north to Marietta on SR-124 and SR-7 is gorgeous and RV-friendly all the way.
transportation.ohio.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Middleport?
You'll find a comfortable mix of full-service and rustic options. Forked Run State Park has electric and non-electric sites, hot showers, vault and flush toilets, a dump station, drinking water spigots, and a swim beach on the lake. Most private parks in Meigs County offer 30/50-amp service, laundry, and Wi-Fi, while state parks lean more toward back-to-nature with strong shower houses but typically no sewer hookups at the site. For dumping and water fills outside campgrounds, Forked Run's dump station is often available to non-campers for a small fee. Pro tip: top your fresh water tank before leaving the pickup location, not every loop has a fill spigot.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/forked-run-state-parkWhat's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Middleport?
Most motorhome rental Middleport options come fully equipped and trip-ready. Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunks (sleeping 4 to 8 total), a kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, sink, and basic cookware, plus a wet or dry bath with toilet and shower. Air conditioning, furnace heat, and propane are standard. Many rigs include a TV/DVD, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and onboard generator for off-grid power. Wi-Fi and solar are available on select listings, just filter for them. Seatbelt counts are listed on each listing so you know how many passengers can ride legally. Pro tip: ask your host if camp chairs, a starter propane tank, and bedding are included, most southeastern Ohio hosts throw them in.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/forked-run-state-parkWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with my Middleport rental?
Hosts in Middleport offer a wide range of add-ons to customize your campervan rental in Middleport or motorhome trip. Common extras include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, portable generators, bike racks, outdoor grills, and extra propane. Many hosts also offer pickup at their home base in Meigs, Gallia, or Athens County, or paid delivery to your campground (often quoted per mile round-trip). Mileage policies vary by listing: some include 100 free miles per day, others offer unlimited. All fees and add-ons are spelled out clearly on the listing page before you book, no surprises. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen kit for a true zero-effort first trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Middleport,OhioHow do payment and the security deposit work for a Middleport RV rental?
Payment for your RV rental in Middleport is handled securely through the RVezy platform, never cash to the host. You pay your rental total at booking using a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, then released after the trip assuming no damage or policy violations. To avoid any deposit issues, do a thorough walkaround photo or video at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and dump tanks if required. Pro tip: keep gas and dump-station receipts as proof. The whole process is paperless and quick.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Middleport during winter?
Yes, winter RV rental in Ohio is possible and can be a beautiful, quiet adventure. While most state park campgrounds near Middleport (Forked Run, Strouds Run) close their main loops from late October through mid-April, some private parks stay open year-round and several RVezy hosts list four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces. Daytime highs in December and January average 35 to 45F, with lows in the 20s, manageable with the right setup. Winter is perfect for Hocking Hills ice waterfalls and quiet riverfront stays. Pro tip: filter for cold-weather rigs and message the host to confirm freeze protection, heated water lines, and shore-power capability for plug-in stays.
