Overview of campgrounds near Midvale, Ohio
Midvale sits in Tuscarawas County in eastern Ohio, within easy reach of the lake parks run by the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. The MWCD is a political subdivision of the State of Ohio organized in 1933 to develop and implement a plan for flood reduction and water conservation in the Muskingum River watershed, the state's largest wholly contained watershed, covering more than 8,000 square miles. The lakes were created by dams built in the 1930s, and today their shorelines carry most of the region's RV camping.
Within about a 30 to 45 minute drive of Midvale, campers can choose between full-hookup lake parks and smaller private and non-profit camps. Woods Tall Timber Lake Resort is one of the closer private options, and Camp Tuscazoar Foundation Inc is a historic outdoor property along the Tuscarawas River. Atwood Lake Park Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist, Tappan Lake Park Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist, and Clendening Marina Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist round out the nearby MWCD-run lakes.
The area suits families and first-time RV renters: sites are generally reachable on paved county highways, gate staff are on hand at the MWCD parks, and each lake has a beach, boat ramp, or marina attached to the campground.
Things to do near Midvale
Water recreation drives most trips. MWCD operates Tappan Lake Park, which offers 600 campsites, rental cabins, a public beach, a boat launch ramp, docking facilities, 8 miles of hiking trails, and picnic areas. The lake has a full service marina, two public boat launch ramps outside the park, dock rental, and boat rental, and a 299 horsepower limit is enforced on Tappan Lake. At Atwood, a sandy beach provides lake access and paved trails wind through the park for biking and walking.
For anglers, Clendening Lake has minimal shoreline development, and is the largest lake in Ohio to be designated as a primitive lake, with excellent fishing opportunities, and the lake holds the Ohio record for flathead catfish. Camp Tuscazoar Foundation Inc adds hiking and mountain biking on its trail network, with access to the Ohio and Erie Canal corridor.
Off the water, families can plan day trips to the historic village of Zoar and the Amish country west of Midvale around Sugarcreek and Berlin.

The main RV season runs from spring through early fall. MWCD campgrounds operate on a standard and off-season schedule: off-season camping with discounted rates is available November 1 to March 31, with peak amenities and services running the rest of the year. Water is shut off at full-hookup sites during the winter months when temperatures drop below freezing.
A seasonal camping permit is available for a seven month period, beginning April 1 and ending October 31, on a limited number of campsites designated for seasonal camping.
Summer weekends and holidays fill fastest, particularly around the Fourth of July, when Tappan Lake Park hosts various summer events, including a Fourth of July fireworks display. Book several months out for prime lakefront sites and full hookups. Spring and fall bring cooler nights, quieter campgrounds, and reliable fishing. Winter travel is possible but expect frozen water spigots, limited services, and occasional snow on secondary roads.

We used the camper for a camping trip over a weekend. The camper was clean and spacious for us and our 3 kids. We had an issue with the air conditioner. When asked about the issue was promptly addressed.

How to book campgrounds near Midvale
The MWCD lakes, Atwood, Tappan, and Clendening, are booked through the district's own reservation portal at reserve.mwcd.org, either online or by phone. Campers can view all available nights up to 12 months ahead of any campsite. The reservation holder must be at least 18 years or older and must be an occupant on the site, and check-in time for camping and cabins is 4:00 PM.
A few rules apply across the MWCD system: quiet hours in the park are from 11 PM to 7 AM, pets are allowed in camping areas and must be on a leash no greater than 6 feet at all times, and pets cannot be left unattended in a vehicle or on the campsite. Camp Tuscazoar handles its own reservations directly through tuscazoar.org, and private resorts such as Woods Tall Timber Lake Resort accept bookings by phone or on their own website.
What to expect on site
MWCD lake parks provide a mix of primitive, electric, and full-hookup sites. At Atwood, 142 campsites feature full utility hook-ups, concrete pads, picnic tables, and a scenic view of Atwood Lake, and the area is complete with a playground, shower and restroom facilities with laundry, and a pavilion with built-in fire pit. Tappan Lake Park Campground offers full, partial and primitive hookup RV and tent camping adjacent to the lake, with six different camping areas, some capable of handling larger RVs.
Camp Tuscazoar is a different kind of stay, a rustic, mission-driven Scout property better suited to tent campers and small rigs than large motorhomes.
Cell coverage is generally usable but patchy in the hollows, so download maps before arrival.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Midvale%2C%20OhioWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Midvale, Ohio?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Midvale, Ohio. Ohio does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, no matter the size. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and you'll confirm your ID right through the platform during checkout, so there's no paperwork to print or notarize. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club, usually under $20. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the licensing side really is.
bmv.ohio.gov/your-license/driver-license/types-of-licensesWhat protection is included with my Midvale RV rental?
Every RV rental in Midvale booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Interstate 77 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose the coverage level that fits you best at checkout (hosts don't set this). It isn't traditional auto insurance, it's purpose-built for peer-to-peer RV rentals and gives you significantly more financial backup than a security deposit alone. Think of it as the safety net that lets you focus on the campfire at Atwood Lake instead of the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Midvale RV trip?
You can book your RV rental Ohio trip with confidence: RVezy applies a single, consistent cancellation policy across all listings, including a money-back grace period right after booking so you're not locked in the moment you click confirm. Refund amounts after that window depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. Because RVezy (not the individual host) manages cancellations, you don't have to negotiate or compare policies between listings. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy issues a full refund or travel credit. Pro tip: if Ohio weather looks iffy the week of your trip, message your host early, many are happy to shift dates rather than cancel outright.

Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, Ohio summers in Tuscarawas County regularly hit the mid-80s.
mwcdlakes.com/parks-and-recreation/atwoodCan the RV be delivered to my campground near Midvale?
Yes, RV delivery Midvale is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip the towing learning curve. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to Atwood Lake Park, Tappan Lake Park, Pleasant Hill Lake, or even your own driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees usually run by the mile from the host's location, and some hosts offer free delivery within a set radius of Midvale or New Philadelphia. Filter by Delivery on the search page to see hosts who offer it. It's hands-down the easiest way to start an Ohio RV trip.

mwcdlakes.com/parks-and-recreation/atwoodWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Midvale?
Late April through October is prime time for a Midvale RV trip, with each season offering something different. May and June bring lush green hills, blooming dogwoods, and daytime highs in the 70s, ideal for hiking around Tappan Lake. July and August are warmest (mid-80s, occasionally low 90s) and best for swimming at Atwood Lake. September and early October are the local insider's secret: crisp 65 to 75 degree days, fewer crowds, and the Tuscarawas Valley's stunning fall color peak around mid-October. Winters get cold (often in the 20s and 30s with snow), so most campgrounds close from late October through April. Pro tip: book the third weekend in September for the perfect mix of warm days and quiet campgrounds.
weather.gov/cle/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay starting in Midvale?
You'll do great, and Midvale is actually a fantastic place for first time renting an RV. The roads around town are relatively wide and lightly trafficked compared to big-city pickup locations, so you can ease into things on US-36 or US-250 before tackling the highway. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering generator, slide-outs, water systems, leveling, and dumping, and they're just a text away during your trip. If you'd rather not drive at all, choose a host who delivers and sets up at your campsite. Pro tip: pick a travel trailer for your first booking only if you're towing-confident, otherwise a Class C motorhome drives much like a large van.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down during my Ohio RV trip?
You're covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're parked at Atwood Lake or rolling through Amish Country on State Route 39. Roadside assistance handles the most common headaches: flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, tow service, and fuel delivery. If something mechanical comes up with the RV itself, message your host directly through the RVezy app, most local Midvale-area hosts respond quickly and can guide you through quick fixes or coordinate next steps. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so you have them handy if you ever need to call in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Midvale RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, most RV rentals from Midvale are great for multi-state RV road trip from Midvale adventures. Popular routes head into Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh and the Laurel Highlands in about 2 hours), West Virginia (New River Gorge in roughly 4 hours), Kentucky, and up to Michigan. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on the individual host and the protection plan coverage, so message the host before booking to confirm details and paperwork. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a Midvale to Niagara Falls loop through Cleveland and Buffalo is about 5 hours each way and one of the most underrated RV runs in the region.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for in Ohio?
Plan smart and your fuel bill won't surprise you. Class C motorhomes around Midvale typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), Class A rigs about 6 to 10 mpg, campervans 14 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg combined). Ohio gas prices tend to sit slightly below the national average, with diesel a bit higher. For a 4-day trip averaging 300 miles, budget roughly $100 to $180 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in New Philadelphia or Dover before heading into Amish Country, prices in the smaller villages around Berlin can run 20 to 30 cents higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Midvale?
For summer weekends, aim to book your campsite 3 to 6 months ahead, especially around Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day when Atwood Lake Park and Tappan Lake Park fill up fast. Ohio State Parks open reservations six months in advance through the ReserveOhio system, and Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) parks book through their own MWCD Lakes site, also opening about six months out. Weekday stays from Sunday through Thursday are much easier and can often be booked just a week or two ahead. Pro tip: if your dream weekend is full, set up an alert, cancellations are common 2 to 3 weeks before holiday weekends and you can often snag a great site.
reserveohio.com/What are driving conditions like around Midvale and Tuscarawas County?
Driving conditions around Midvale are very RV-friendly, which is part of why so many people choose to rent an RV in Midvale for their first trip. Interstate 77 runs right through Tuscarawas County and is wide, well-maintained, and lightly trafficked compared to Cleveland or Columbus. State routes 36, 39, and 250 wind gently through Amish Country with some rolling hills but no extreme grades. Watch for horse-drawn buggies on rural roads near Sugarcreek, Walnut Creek, and Berlin (they have orange triangles and right-of-way), and slow down on Route 39 around dusk. Winter brings occasional snow and ice from December through March. Pro tip: avoid I-77 northbound on Sunday evenings, weekend returners can make Akron-bound traffic crawl.
ohgo.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Midvale offer?
You'll find excellent infrastructure at the best campgrounds near Midvale. Atwood Lake Park and Tappan Lake Park both offer full-hookup sites (electric, water, sewer), dump stations, potable water fill, hot showers, laundry, camp stores, and Wi-Fi in common areas. Pleasant Hill Lake Park has similar amenities plus a sandy swim beach. If you're boondocking or staying at a site without sewer, the closest public dump stations are at Atwood and Tappan, both free for registered campers. Most sites also have fire rings and picnic tables. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-amp-to-50-amp adapter, older Ohio state park sites sometimes only have 30-amp service.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-propertyWhat's typically included inside a Midvale RV rental?
You'll be impressed by what's packed into the average motorhome rental Midvale guests book on RVezy. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable sleeping for 4 to 8 people depending on size, air conditioning, furnace heat, and a dinette that converts to extra sleeping space. Many rentals include a TV, some have Wi-Fi boosters or hotspots, and most include an onboard generator or solar setup for off-grid stays. Seatbelts are provided for the legal passenger count, listed clearly on every page. Hosts often throw in starter kits with linens, dishes, and outdoor chairs. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities section for a full inventory before booking, it saves overpacking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Midvale%2C%20OhioWhat add-ons and extras can I get with my Midvale RV rental?
Hosts offering campervan rental Midvale and motorhome options often include great add-ons that make life easier. Common extras include bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, outdoor chairs and tables, bike racks, kayak or paddleboard carriers, generators with fuel, propane top-offs, and even pre-stocked groceries. Pickup and dropoff are usually at the host's location in or near Midvale, though many offer delivery to local campgrounds (fees by the mile). Mileage policies and generator-hour limits are clearly listed on each page before you book, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: if you're heading to Amish Country, ask your host about adding a bike rack, the Holmes County Trail is one of Ohio's best rail-trails and perfect for a family ride.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/holmes-county-trailHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy directly when you book (not the host), using a credit or debit card, and your booking is confirmed instantly or once the host accepts. The security deposit is a separate temporary hold, not an immediate charge, and is released after your trip ends assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. Deposit amounts vary by RV but are clearly shown before you confirm. To avoid any deposit issues on your family RV trip Midvale weekend, take time-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's dumping and fueling instructions, and return on time. That's really all there is to it.
