Campgrounds and RV parks near Napoleon, OH

The Maumee River is the anchor for most outdoor activity. The river offers some of the best stream fishing in Ohio, with walleye, white bass, smallmouth and largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie all in play. Boaters have access to the river, and history buffs can explore remnants of the old Miami and Erie and Wabass and Erie canals. Mary Jane Thurston State Park adds an archery range with static and 3-D targets, short easy trails, and a boat launch and marina. Families traveling with kids can plan a day at Sauder Village. The historic village features demonstrations and activities across historic homes, barns, gardens, and craft shops from 1803 to the 1920s, including a Pioneer Settlement and a 1920s Main Street with a theater, grocery store, soda fountain, and farm animals. Paddling and picnicking round out the low-effort options.

Northwest Ohio has four distinct seasons, and the camping calendar reflects that. Mary Jane Thurston State Park Campground is open year-round, but the peak seasons are considered to be April through October. Sauder Village Campground runs a regular season from early April to early November, with limited weeklong winter camping available on request. Most other private parks in the area operate on a similar spring-through-fall window. Summer brings the warmest, most reliable weather along with the highest demand. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day fill quickly at the state park and at Sauder Village, especially around holidays. Sauder Village requires a three-night minimum stay on holiday weekends, so booking well ahead is essential for July and August stays. Spring and fall are quieter and cooler, with fishing on the Maumee at its best and shoulder-season availability easier to secure. Under the proper winter conditions, park guests at Mary Jane Thurston can enjoy a sled hill in the campground, and trails remain passable. Snow and cold still limit RV comfort from December through February.

Hookup mixes vary by campground. Mary Jane Thurston State Park Campground has no sewer hookups; sites 1 through 23 are electric and sites 1 through 4 add water. Bathroom and shower facilities require a walk to the nearby marina, where campers also access potable water and a dump station near the campground office. Sauder Village Campground has 87 sites, 77 of which are designed for RVers, including 55 full-hookup back-in sites, 11 electric/water back-in sites, and 11 electric-only pull-through sites. Complimentary Wi-Fi and a bathhouse with laundry are on site, along with a playground, basketball court, horseshoes, splash pad, and access to the Heritage Inn's indoor pool and hot tub. Expect flat sites, mixed shade, and some road or train noise at riverside and roadside locations.
