Campgrounds near New Bremen
New Bremen sits in west central Ohio's Auglaize County, within a short drive of two lake-based state parks and several private RV campgrounds. The town is minutes from Lake Loramie State Park to the south and Grand Lake St Marys State Park to the northwest, both former feeder reservoirs for the Miami and Erie Canal that now anchor the region's camping and boating scene.
Lake Loramie State Park offers full-hookup, electric, and non-electric sites plus ADA-compliant cedar cabins on the shore of an 845-acre lake. Grand Lake St Marys State Park runs a larger campground on Ohio's largest inland lake at 13,500 acres, with about 200 sites including 148 electric, 33 full-hookup, and 10 non-electric, plus seven rustic cabins with lake views.
Private options in the area include Wapakoneta KOA Holiday off I-75 between Lima and Dayton, plus Easy Campground and Glacier Hill Lakes RV Resort. Together these give RV renters a range of choices from state-run lakefront camping to full-service private resorts with pools and planned activities.
Things to do around New Bremen
Water recreation dominates the area. Lake Loramie allows boating with no horsepower limit, but the entire lake is classified as no-wake with the exception of a designated speed zone at the west end, and water skiing and tubing are prohibited. Anglers target crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, and largemouth bass, with shore, dock, and pier access around the park.
Grand Lake St Marys is Ohio's largest inland lake and a hub for boating and fishing. Swimming in the lake itself is prohibited due to water quality concerns, so families often use the campground pool and splash pad instead.
Lake Loramie has more than 8 miles of hiking trails, with portions following the historic canal towpath as part of both the Buckeye Trail and the North Country National Scenic Trail, plus an 18-hole disc golf course. The Armstrong Air and Space Museum in nearby Wapakoneta is a common family stop.

Peak camping runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when weather is warm, pools are open, and family programs run at both state parks and the KOA. Weekends in July and August at the state parks fill quickly, so booking well in advance is important.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. Ohio's state parks at Lake Loramie and Grand Lake St Marys remain open for year-round recreation, though many amenities scale back outside peak season. Shoulder-season campers should expect reduced hours at camp stores and limited pool access.
Winter activities at Lake Loramie include ice fishing, sledding, and snowmobiling when conditions permit, and self-contained RVs can still find electric sites at both parks during the colder months.
How to book near New Bremen
Ohio state park campsites at Lake Loramie and Grand Lake St Marys can be reserved up to six months in advance through ReserveOhio or by calling (866) 644-6727. Booking early is essential for summer weekends and holidays, when lakefront and full-hookup sites go fast.
Wapakoneta KOA Holiday is booked directly through the KOA website or reservation line. Cancellation terms vary by site type and are stricter for holidays and special events, so review the policy at the time of booking.
Private campgrounds such as Easy Campground and Glacier Hill Lakes RV Resort handle reservations on their own systems, typically through their websites or by phone. Book summer weekends and holidays several months out.
What to expect on arrival
At the state parks, expect a mix of paved and gravel pads. At Grand Lake St Marys, all roads and site pads are paved, with both pull-through and back-in options available, and modern restrooms feature flush toilets and hot showers, while a full-service camp store offers supplies and bike rentals and loans fishing gear and games to registered campers. Amenities include a pool, splash pad, dog park, mini golf, and playground.
Wapakoneta KOA Holiday sits close to I-75 among farm fields, with concrete or gravel pads, a heated seasonal pool, mini golf, and a small on-site store. Lake Loramie's campground is family-oriented, with a beach, camp store, and canoe and kayak rentals for registered campers.
Pets are permitted in most areas of the state park campgrounds but not in the cabins.
