Campgrounds near New Straitsville, Ohio
New Straitsville sits in the Appalachian foothills of southeast Ohio, at the edge of the Wayne National Forest's Monday Creek OHV trail system. The village is an ATV-friendly community, and most nearby campgrounds cater to riders, families exploring Hocking Hills, or anglers heading to Burr Oak Lake.
Closest to town, Begleys ATV Campground offers electric and non-electric sites with direct access to the Monday Creek trail network, and the New Straitsville trailhead sits about two miles south of the village on SR 595. Perry Backwoods Campgrounds and Burr Oak Family Resort serve as additional private options in the surrounding hills.
For state-park camping, the Main campground at Burr Oak State Park sits a short drive northeast, on the shoreline of the 664-acre Burr Oak Lake. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources manages this year-round facility, offering a mix of electric and non-electric sites along with showers, flush toilets, and a dump station. Hocking Hills Jellystone Park lies to the west and serves families targeting Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave.
Things to do near New Straitsville
Off-highway riding drives most trips. Riders need a Wayne National Forest OHV trail permit and a valid State of Ohio APV registration, and vehicles wider than 50 inches are not allowed on the trail system. The Monday Creek area covers roughly 75 miles of designated OHV trails, with loading ramps at the New Straitsville and White Oak trailheads.
Burr Oak State Park draws hikers, paddlers, and anglers. The park sits in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, with hardwood forests of oak and hickory that support white-tailed deer, wild turkey, ruffed grouse, and waterfowl along the lake. Ten miles of day-hiking trails and an 18-mile backpack loop tie into the shoreline.
Families staying at Hocking Hills Jellystone Park use it as a base for the state park's signature sites, including Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, Ash Cave, and Conkles Hollow.

The region has four distinct seasons. Summer is the busiest window for RV travel, with warm, humid days and heavy weekend demand at private resorts and at Burr Oak State Park. Reserve early for holiday weekends, especially Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for hiking and OHV riding. In autumn, hardwood ridges display strong fall color, which pushes campground demand at Burr Oak and around Hocking Hills through October. The Wayne National Forest motorized trails follow a defined season, typically opening the first Friday in April and closing the first Monday in December, with hikers welcome on those trails year-round.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Burr Oak State Park stays open year-round, but from November 1 to April water is available only at the shower house, so RV travelers relying on hookups should confirm site availability before booking cold-weather stays. Private ATV-focused campgrounds often reduce services outside the riding season.

How to book campsites near New Straitsville
Ohio state parks use a central reservation system. Reservations are required for all camping areas at Burr Oak State Park and may be made up to six months in advance online through the ReserveOhio portal or by calling (866) 644-6727. Weekend electric sites at the Main campground typically go first, so book as soon as the six-month window opens for peak-season dates.
Private campgrounds book directly. Begleys ATV Campground, Burr Oak Family Resort, and Perry Backwoods Campgrounds take reservations by phone or through their own websites. Hocking Hills Jellystone Park uses an online booking system for site and cabin availability, and themed weekends through the warm season tend to sell out furthest in advance. For OHV trips, confirm the campground's RV length limit and whether trailered ATVs are allowed on site before finalizing the booking.
What to expect
Terrain in this part of Ohio is hilly, not flat. Sites at Burr Oak sit on sloped ground overlooking the lake, with electric sites tending to have more level ground and lower sites offering better tree cover but steeper grades. Larger RVs should call ahead to confirm site length and leveling needs.
Connectivity is limited. Cell service is not reliable inside Burr Oak State Park, and the remote setting means limited nearby supply options. Plan grocery, water, and fuel stops in Logan, Nelsonville, or Glouster before heading to the campground.
Expect noise and dust at ATV-focused campgrounds during riding season, and quieter conditions at Burr Oak's main campground. Pets are allowed on all state park campsites with a limit of two per site and a six-foot leash rule; private campgrounds set their own pet rules.

How much does an RV rental in New Straitsville, OH typically cost?
Great news for budget-conscious travelers: an RV rental in New Straitsville is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Wayne National Forest region. Expect motorhomes to average around $200 per night and towable trailers around $120 per night, with cheap RV rental New Straitsville options often dipping lower midweek or in the shoulder seasons. fs.usda.gov/wayneWhat license do I need to rent an RV in New Straitsville?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Ohio, even for the larger Class A motorhomes you'll see headed to Wayne National Forest. There's no special Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or RV endorsement required by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles for personal recreational vehicles. To book on RVezy, you'll need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the platform. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country before flying in. That's it, you're cleared to cruise Route 33 toward the Hocking Hills.
bmv.ohio.gov/driver-license/license-typesIs my RV rental protected if something goes wrong on the trip?
Yes, every RV rental in New Straitsville booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV, so a stray Wayne National Forest branch or a fender bump at a tight Hocking Hills overlook won't derail your trip. During checkout you choose your coverage tier based on how much peace of mind you want, hosts don't pick this for you. With the gravel forest roads around New Straitsville, most renters opt for a mid or top tier plan and feel great about the decision.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my New Straitsville RV trip?
Booking is low risk. RVezy applies a clear, standardized cancellation policy to every reservation, including a full money-back grace period right after you book. If a Southeast Ohio thunderstorm rolls in or life throws a curveball, you have options. Hosts don't set cancellation terms, RVezy does, so the rules are consistent across every listing whether you're renting a campervan or a 32-foot motorhome. You'll see the exact policy details during checkout. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Wayne National Forest weekends, then relax knowing flexibility is built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in New Straitsville?
Yes, your pup is welcome on plenty of trips here. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see pet-friendly RV rental New Straitsville options. Many hosts charge a small pet fee (often $25 to $75 per trip) and just ask that pets stay off the furniture. Once you've got the rig, your dog will love the area: leashed dogs are allowed on most Wayne National Forest trails, and nearby Hocking Hills State Park welcomes pets on every trail except inside the Old Man's Cave gorge. Pro tip: pack a tick comb, the hardwood forest around New Straitsville is prime tick territory in spring and summer.
fs.usda.gov/wayneCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near New Straitsville?
Yes, RV delivery New Straitsville is one of the most popular options here, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig down State Route 595. Many hosts will deliver the motorhome or travel trailer directly to Begley's ATV Campground, Hocking Hills KOA, or a private cabin property, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter for Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it and how far they'll travel. Fees usually run $2 to $5 per mile from the host's location. Pro tip: delivery pairs beautifully with an ATV weekend, you focus on the trails, they handle the setup.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/wayne/recreation/ohvHow far can I drive, and what road trips work well from New Straitsville?
You've got serious range from here. An RV road trip from New Straitsville puts some of Ohio's best landscapes within an easy day's drive: Hocking Hills State Park (about 20 miles west), Lake Hope State Park (25 miles south), Burr Oak State Park (20 miles east), Athens and Ohio University (30 miles south), and Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Cleveland (about 150 miles north). Mileage policies vary by host, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and some listings offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer hauls. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you're planning a multi-park loop, they'll often bundle extra miles into the trip cost.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/hocking-hills-state-parkWhere are the best campgrounds near New Straitsville for RV camping?
You've got fantastic choices for RV camping New Straitsville right in town and within a short drive. Begley's ATV Campground sits right in New Straitsville with 64 sites, 28 electric, and direct access to 145 miles of Wayne National Forest OHV trails. Hocking Hills State Park Campground (about 20 miles west) offers full hookups, a pool, and easy access to Old Man's Cave. Burr Oak State Park Campground has lakeside electric sites perfect for fishing. Lake Hope State Park Campground in Zaleski State Forest is a quieter pick under the hemlocks. Pro tip: book Ohio State Parks through the official reservation system up to six months ahead, fall foliage weekends sell out fast.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/wayne-national-forestWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in New Straitsville?
You've got a long sweet spot here. Late April through late October is the best window for a New Straitsville RV trip, with summer highs averaging in the 80s and crisp fall days in the 55 to 70 F range. June through August is peak for ATV riders and families, while early to mid October delivers Ohio's spectacular hardwood foliage along the Hocking Hills ridges. Spring brings wildflowers to Wildcat Hollow but also mud, so pack accordingly. Winters dip into the 20s and 30s, doable in a four-season rig but most hosts pause winter bookings. Pro tip: target the last weekend of September for warm days, cool nights, and the first hints of color.
weather.gov/iln/I'm a first-timer, will I actually know how to use the RV?
Yes, and you're in great company, most renters here are first-timers. Every host on RVezy provides a hands-on orientation at pickup or delivery, walking you through propane, water systems, slide-outs, the generator, and how to dump tanks at local stations. You can also message your host through the listing before booking with any question, no matter how small. First time renting an RV near New Straitsville is genuinely easy because the roads are gentle and traffic is light. Pro tip: ask the host for a short video walkthrough to keep on your phone for reference when you arrive at camp.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002374393-GuestsWhat if I get a flat tire or break down in the Wayne National Forest area?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat on State Route 595 or a dead battery at the Monday Creek trailhead is one phone call away from help. The dispatch network covers tire changes, jump-starts, fuel delivery, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified shop. Cell service in southeastern Ohio can be spotty in valleys, so save the roadside number offline before heading into the forest. Pro tip: New Straitsville and Nelsonville both have hardware stores and gas stations within 15 minutes, the area looks remote but help is genuinely close.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
You've got lots of freedom here. Most hosts allow interstate travel, so an RV road trip from New Straitsville into West Virginia (New River Gorge is roughly 3 hours southeast), Pennsylvania, or Kentucky is totally doable. Travel into Canada may be allowed with advance host approval and insurance confirmation, so message before booking to sort the paperwork. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a popular cross-state loop hits Hocking Hills, then New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia, then back through the Marietta unit of Wayne National Forest along the Ohio River.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the realistic fuel cost for an RV trip here?
Easier on the wallet than you'd think. Ohio gas prices typically run below the national average, and diesel pumps are plentiful along US-33 and I-77. Plan on roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, and 16 to 20 mpg for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. A typical 3-night New Straitsville loop covering 200 to 300 miles total burns about 20 to 35 gallons. Fill up in Logan or Nelsonville before heading into the forest, prices in small Perry County towns can be 10 to 20 cents higher. Pro tip: GasBuddy works great in this region, the local stations update prices daily.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near New Straitsville?
Sooner is better, but you've still got options. Ohio State Parks like Hocking Hills, Burr Oak, and Lake Hope open reservations six months in advance through the official ReserveOhio system, and prime summer and fall weekends often book within days. Wayne National Forest sites and private parks like Begley's ATV Campground are easier to grab, often available 2 to 4 weeks out. Pro tip: if you're set on Hocking Hills State Park for an October weekend, log in at 8 a.m. exactly six months before your arrival date, that's when the calendar drops. For a more spontaneous trip, midweek availability at Begley's is consistently strong all season.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/reserve-a-place-to-stayWhat are the roads like for driving an RV around New Straitsville?
Friendlier than you'd expect for Appalachian country. The main routes, US-33, State Route 93, and State Route 595, are well-paved two-lane roads with manageable grades, and traffic is light outside of festival weekends. You will encounter winding curves and a few steep descents around the Hocking Hills, so take it slow in a longer rig and use lower gears downhill. Watch for coal trucks on weekdays and ATVs crossing in town, New Straitsville is one of Ohio's official ATV-friendly towns, so quads share the streets legally. Pro tip: avoid the narrow township roads marked with weight limits, stick to numbered state routes and you'll have a smooth drive every time.
transportation.ohio.gov/programs/roadway/roadwayWhat hookups and dump stations should I expect at local campgrounds?
You've got solid infrastructure here. Begley's ATV Campground offers 28 electric sites with shared water spigots and a dump station on-site. Hocking Hills State Park Campground has full-hookup sites with 50-amp service, potable water fills, and a centrally located dump station. Burr Oak and Lake Hope State Parks offer electric sites and dump stations included with your reservation. Wayne National Forest's primitive areas like Monday Creek are vault-toilet only, plan to dump on the way out. Pro tip: top off fresh water in Logan or Nelsonville before heading into the forest, and use the free dump station at the Hocking Hills State Park welcome area if you're passing through.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/hocking-hills-state-parkWhat amenities come standard in an RV rental here?
More than you'd think. Most motorhome rental New Straitsville listings come fully equipped: queen or king beds, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink and cookware, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, a furnace, and roof or wall-mounted TVs. Campervans are more compact but still include a bed, fridge, sink, and often a portable toilet. Many rigs include a generator for boondocking and seatbelts for every passenger, which Ohio law requires for travel. WiFi via hotspot is sometimes included or available as an add-on. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and look for listings with awnings, perfect for cool fall evenings around the fire at Begley's.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Straitsville%2C%20OhioWhat add-ons and pickup options can I choose for my rental?
Plenty, and they make the trip easier. Common add-ons for an RV rental in New Straitsville include bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, generators, propane fills, bike racks, and outdoor chairs and tables, handy with Wayne National Forest right outside town. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting point, with delivery available from many hosts as an alternative. Mileage policies typically run 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles at $0.30 to $0.50 each. Pro tip: if you're heading to the New Straitsville Moonshine Festival in late May, message hosts early since event weekends book quickly.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Straitsville%2C%20OhioHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Straightforward and transparent. When you rent an RV in New Straitsville, you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never cash to the host. Your trip total covers the nightly rate, service fee, protection plan, and any add-ons you select. A refundable security deposit is held on your card before pickup (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released after the host confirms a clean return. To avoid any hold-up, take date-stamped photos of the rig inside and out at pickup and dropoff. Pro tip: empty the black and grey tanks at a campground dump station before returning, it's the most common reason for deposit deductions.
