Campgrounds and RV parks near Oakwood, OH

Water and paddling are the main draws. The Auglaize River runs through Paulding County with local outfitters offering canoe and kayak trips, and Gilboa Quarry RV Park & Campground is one of the Midwest's best-known freshwater dive and paddling destinations, with spring-fed quarry waters that typically maintain 30 to 40 feet of visibility. Families staying at Huggy Bear Campground and RV Sales have access to pool, mini golf, fishing, and weekend activities. Sauder Village near Archbold offers a large living-history complex with more than 40 buildings tracing Ohio life from 1803 through the 1920s, plus a bakery, a restaurant, and an inn. The Sauder Village Campground itself features a splash pad, fishing at Little Lake Erie, a bike path, and a playground. Harrison Lake State Park near Fayette adds swimming, fishing, and hiking within about an hour's drive.

Northwest Ohio has four distinct seasons with warm, humid summers and cold winters. Summer runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day and is peak season across every private campground in the area. Book several weeks out for July and August weekends, and expect the busiest crowds and warmest quarry water at Gilboa Quarry in mid-summer. Spring and early fall are quieter. Water clarity at Gilboa is typically best in late spring and early summer, and fall brings cooler nights, lower bookings, and reliable color across the region's hardwoods. Many private campgrounds in the region operate on a seasonal calendar. Sauder Village Campground runs from early April to early November, with weeklong winter camping available by arrangement through the Sauder Heritage Inn front desk. Winter camping options in the immediate Oakwood area are limited, so travelers should confirm dates directly with each campground before booking.

Terrain around Oakwood is flat farmland with clay-rich soil, so most Paulding County campgrounds use gravel or asphalt pads rather than natural ground, which helps in wet weather. Sauder Village Campground has 87 sites with 50 amp hookups and campfire rings at every site, and 55 of those sites also have water hookups. Hookups vary by property. Gilboa Quarry RV Park & Campground offers full hookup RV sites along with tent sites and bunkhouses, and its former limestone quarry sits alongside spring-fed water suitable for swimming, paddling, and diving. Huggy Bear Campground and RV Sales offers a range of electric, water and electric, and full hookup sites. Cell coverage is generally reliable on the major carriers along US-24 and I-75. Most campgrounds require check-in at the front office regardless of reservation status.
