Campgrounds and RV parks near Oregon, OH

Maumee Bay State Park anchors most itineraries. A 57-acre inland lake in the park is suitable for sailing, canoeing, and other non-motorized boat use, and the park also has a nature center, an accessible boardwalk trail, and a Storybook Trail geared to families. More than 300 bird species have been observed here, and the surrounding western basin of Lake Erie is a stronghold for nesting bald eagles. Active campers can use five miles of asphalt bicycle and pedestrian trails that provide access to most day-use areas, borrow games and sporting equipment from the camp office, or try the park's free archery range. Toledo itself is close: expect the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium, the Toledo Museum of Art, Mud Hens baseball, and Metroparks along the Maumee River, all reachable in well under half an hour from area campgrounds.

Peak RV season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when Lake Erie beach weather aligns with school breaks and every nearby park runs at or near full occupancy. Shower houses are heated May through October, and full-hookup sites offer water only during those warmer months, so shoulder-season travelers should plan for reduced services. Spring and fall are the strongest windows for birders. The western Lake Erie marshes are a major migration corridor, and the state park's boardwalk and nature center draw heavy warbler traffic in May. Fall brings cooler nights, lighter crowds, and good walleye and perch fishing on the bay. Winter camping is possible because Maumee Bay State Park Campground is open year-round, but from November 1 to April 30, showerhouses are closed and two family restrooms are heated and include shower facilities, and site water is shut off. Some private parks near the lake close or run limited operations in the coldest months.

Maumee Bay State Park Campground offers 256 sites with 20-30-50 amp electric hookups, and twenty sites feature full hookups including water and sewer, though water is only available at these sites during warmer months. Each site includes a paved parking pad, grassy area, picnic table, and fire ring, with foliage providing privacy between sites. Pets are permitted on designated sites, and campground ponds are open only to registered campers. Private parks in the area, including Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey and Harbortown RV Resort, lean toward long pull-through RV sites, full hookups, cabins, pools, playgrounds, and family programming. Expect closer site spacing than at the state park, easier highway access, and more organized weekend activities aimed at kids.
