Campgrounds near Ottawa, Ohio: overview
Ottawa sits in Putnam County in northwest Ohio, roughly halfway between Lima and Findlay along the Blanchard River. The area is flat farmland cut by rivers and old glacial lake bed, and campgrounds here tend to be small, family-run parks or a nearby state park along the Maumee River corridor. Most sites within a short drive fall between the I-75 corridor to the east and the Maumee River to the north.
The closest option is Gilboa Quarry RV Park & Campground at 3763 Old State Route 224 in Ottawa, a spring-fed quarry property offering tent sites, RV sites, and bunkhouses on daily, weekly, and seasonal terms. Twin Lakes Campground and Sun Valley Family Campgrounds add private-park options within the county, while Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Pleasant View offers a resort-style stay.
For a public-land alternative, Mary Jane Thurston State Park, a 105-acre state park one mile west of Grand Rapids in Wood and Henry counties along the south bank of the Maumee River, is the nearest Ohio State Parks campground.
Things to do near Ottawa
Water activities dominate the local scene. Gilboa Quarry is a spring-fed limestone quarry with a shallow side reaching about 60 feet and a deep side reaching 140 feet, welcoming divers, freedivers, snorkelers, swimmers, and paddlers. Twin Lakes Campground, near Bluffton, has a 13-acre fishing lake stocked with bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish, plus a 3-acre spring-fed swimming area with a sandy beach.
At Mary Jane Thurston State Park, the Maumee River provides some of the best stream fishing in Ohio, boaters have direct river access, and history buffs can explore remnants of the old Miami and Erie Canal. Paddling, hiking, and picnicking are also available, and the park's archery range on the east side of the day-use area includes static and 3-D targets at 10, 20, 30, and 40 yards.
Off-site, the village of Grand Rapids offers restaurants and shops within walking distance of the state park campground.

The main camping season in northwest Ohio runs from late spring through mid-fall, with the busiest window falling between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Summer weekends fill first at the water-based parks, so families targeting the Gilboa Quarry beach or the Twin Lakes swimming lake should reserve well ahead. Some private parks scale back services outside peak months: Twin Lakes stays open year-round with limited winter facilities.
Mary Jane Thurston State Park operates its campground year-round, with electric sites and a smaller number of primitive tent sites. Spring travelers along the Maumee should watch river levels, since the park sits on the river and flooding is possible, usually in spring. The park is generally good about giving refunds or rescheduling if a weekend is flooded out.
Fall brings cooler nights, thinner crowds, and good fishing on the Blanchard and Maumee. Winter camping is possible but limited, with most amenities reduced across the region.
How to book campgrounds near Ottawa
For the state park, reservations go through the ReserveOhio system. Reservations may be made up to six months in advance online or by calling (866) 644-6727. Popular riverside sites at Mary Jane Thurston book early for summer weekends, and the campground is small, so travelers who want to stay there should try to reserve early.
Private parks handle bookings directly or through third-party platforms. Gilboa Quarry takes RV and tent bookings through Campspot, and Twin Lakes accepts overnight, weekly, monthly, and seasonal reservations by phone or through its own online system.
Before booking, confirm rig length, hookup type (electric only versus water and electric), and pet policy. Pets are allowed at all sites at Mary Jane Thurston, and most private parks in the area also welcome leashed pets.
What to expect on arrival
Expect small to mid-sized campgrounds rather than sprawling resorts. At Gilboa Quarry, RV Park sites include water and electric hookups, and the on-site bathhouse with hot showers, changing rooms, and flushable toilets is accessible around the clock. Twin Lakes provides 85 stoned campsites, asphalt roads, a dump station, 50/30/20 amp electric, a laundromat, and WiFi.
At Mary Jane Thurston, sites cluster with limited privacy, highway noise affects some sites away from the river corridor, and bathroom and shower facilities are a short walk toward the nearby marina, where campers also access potable water and a dump station.
Cell service is generally reliable along the I-75 corridor. Bring insect repellent for river and quarry sites, and pack layers, since nights can cool sharply even after warm summer days.

Fuel is usually the second-biggest expense after the rental itself, so it is smart to plan ahead. Travel trailers towed by your own vehicle will dip your MPG roughly 25 to 40 percent, Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs around 6 to 10 MPG. Ohio gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, with regular and diesel widely available at truck-friendly stops along I-75, US-30, and US-224 near Ottawa. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: use a price-comparison app and fuel up in Lima or Findlay, where prices often beat lakeshore towns.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground for my Ottawa RV trip?

Private parks near Ottawa, OH like Wapakoneta KOA Journey take reservations directly through their websites. Putnam County is flat farmland with wide, straight roads like US-224, SR-65, and SR-15, and traffic is light outside of Lima and Findlay rush hour. Bridges and overpasses on the main routes clear standard RV heights (under 13'6"), but always confirm your rig's exact height at pickup. Watch for spring thunderstorms with crosswinds, winter snow squalls between November and March, and farm equipment on rural two-lanes during planting and harvest. Avoid downtown Toledo and Cleveland during weekday rush hour when possible. Overall, this is an ideal region to build RV driving confidence.

Pickup typically happens at the host's home in or near Ottawa, but delivery to your campsite or even a regional airport like Toledo Express (about an hour away) is often available for a flat fee.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ottawa%2C%20OhioHow does payment and the security deposit work for an Ottawa RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides of the booking. You are charged the rental total plus any selected add-ons, the protection plan, and the booking fee at the time you confirm. A refundable security deposit is held separately (the amount varies by RV) and released after your trip once the host confirms the rig was returned in good condition. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, follow the mileage and generator-hour limits on your listing, and return the RV with the fuel and waste tanks the way the host requested.
