Camping near Ottawa Hills, Ohio
Ottawa Hills is a small residential village surrounded by Toledo, Ohio, sitting along the Ottawa River just west of downtown. RV travelers use it as a quiet base for exploring the greater Toledo metro, the Maumee River corridor, and the western Lake Erie shoreline about half an hour to the northeast. The village itself has no campgrounds inside its borders, so overnight sites sit in the surrounding townships and along the I-80/I-90 and I-75 corridors.
Options within a short drive include Covered Wagon Camp Resort, Monroe County/Toledo North KOA Holiday, Pirolli Park RV Resort, Big Sandy Toledo-Maumee Campground, and Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey. These properties range from full-hookup resort-style parks to simpler wooded sites, and most sit within 15 to 40 minutes of Ottawa Hills.
The surrounding landscape is flat to gently rolling, with easy grid-pattern roads, big-box resupply within minutes, and quick access to the Toledo Metroparks system for day trips.
Things to do near Ottawa Hills
Wildwood Preserve Metropark borders Ottawa Hills directly and offers paved trails, the historic Manor House, and shaded picnic areas suitable for families. Farther west, Oak Openings Preserve Metropark is one of the largest parks in the region and includes hiking, mountain-bike loops, horse trails, and an equestrian area.
The Toledo Zoo and Aquarium sits a few miles southeast along the Anthony Wayne Trail and is a common half-day trip. Downtown Toledo adds the Toledo Museum of Art, riverfront walking paths, and Mud Hens minor-league baseball at Fifth Third Field.
For water and shoreline days, Maumee Bay State Park on Lake Erie has a swimming beach, a boardwalk through wetlands, and a nature center, and the Maumee River in Perrysburg and Waterville is popular for kayaking and shore fishing.

The Toledo area has a four-season continental climate. Summers are warm, winters are freezing, snowy, and windy, and it is partly cloudy year round. Most private campgrounds in the region operate from roughly mid-April through mid-October, with peak demand from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Holiday weekends fill first, especially the Fourth of July and any weekend tied to Toledo Mud Hens or Jeep Fest events.
Spring is variable: warm afternoons alternate with cold rain, and May tends to bring the highest monthly precipitation, so low-lying sites can be soft. Late spring is a strong window for birding at Magee Marsh during the warbler migration on Lake Erie's south shore.
Fall brings cooler nights, drier conditions, and lighter crowds after Labor Day. Winters are often snowy with occasional lake-effect snow showers coming off Lake Erie, and most private RV parks close or shift to limited winter operations.

We rented this trailer from David for a work event/music festival and it was absolutely amazing. The air conditioning alone was enough to make the entire process SO worth it in the 90 degree summer heat. We had an amazing time and wish we would have had the time and days to use more of the amenities he offered!

KOA properties such as Monroe County/Toledo North KOA Holiday and Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey are booked through the KOA site or app, which shows live availability and site type.
For summer weekends, reserve four to eight weeks ahead, and longer for holiday weekends or when Toledo hosts large events. Full-hookup pull-throughs and waterfront sites go first.

What to expect on the ground
Roads into Ottawa Hills and the surrounding Toledo suburbs are wide, paved, and easy to navigate with a Class A or a trailer. I-75, I-80/90 (Ohio Turnpike), and US-23 form the main approach routes, and fuel, groceries, and RV parts are all available within the metro.
Most nearby campgrounds offer 30 and 50 amp service, dump stations, and Wi-Fi of variable quality. Expect mosquitoes and biting flies from late May through August, especially near the Maumee River and Lake Erie wetlands, so pack repellent and screens.
Summer thunderstorms can be strong, sometimes with severe wind and hail warnings. Check awnings and slide toppers before turning in, and note that tornado watches do occur in the warm months across northwest Ohio.
