Camping near Perry, Ohio
Perry sits on Lake Erie's southeastern shoreline in Lake County, roughly 40 miles northeast of Cleveland. The area gives RV travelers direct access to the lake, the Grand River Valley wine region, and the wooded terrain of northeast Ohio's snowbelt. Campgrounds range from a full-service state park on the water to private RV parks with pools, cabins, and long-stay sites.
Geneva State Park is the largest public option, sitting on 698 acres along Ohio's northeastern shoreline with a sand beach, marina, and modern campground. Private parks in the surrounding townships fill in the gaps: Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA Holiday, Hearthside Grove Lake Erie, Hidden Lakes Family Campground, and Willow Lake Campground all lie within a short drive of Perry.
The mix suits families running short lake trips as well as travelers using Perry as a base for day trips into Cleveland, the Ashtabula wineries, or the Cuyahoga Valley.
Things to do around Perry
Lake Erie drives most of the activity. Geneva State Park offers swimming, boating, and fishing, with the Geneva Marina providing easy access to the central basin of Lake Erie. Six miles of multi-use trails cross the park for hikers, snowmobilers, cross-country skiers, and hunters, alongside a two-mile paved trail that spans the park and provides scenic views of Lake Erie.
Beyond the water, the Grand River Valley wine trail threads through Madison, Geneva, and Harpersfield townships with more than a dozen wineries. Anglers target walleye, yellow perch, and steelhead along the lake and its tributaries.
Families often pair a beach day with a trip to the Geneva-on-the-Lake strip, the village that was Ohio's first summer resort, for the boardwalk, arcades, and mini-golf.

The Perry area follows a classic Great Lakes calendar. Summer, from mid-June through August, is peak season: warm lake temperatures, active beaches, and full campgrounds. Weekends at Geneva State Park book out well in advance, and the private parks nearby often run at capacity around holiday weekends.
Spring and fall are quieter but shorter. Many private campgrounds in northeast Ohio open around May and close by mid-October, and Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA is open seasonally May through October. Fall brings foliage across the Grand River Valley and cooler nights, making it a strong choice for RV travelers who want space without shutting down heat.
Winter is the off-peak stretch. Geneva State Park designates November 1 to March 31 as off-peak, when water is not available at sites but the dump station remains open. Lake-effect snow is common in this stretch of the snowbelt, and most private parks close for the season.

Booking a campsite near Perry
Public sites at Geneva State Park are booked through Ohio's state park reservation system. Reservations may be made online on the Ohio State Park website or by calling 866-644-6727, and walk-up reservations are not accepted. Bookings open up to six months ahead of the arrival date, weekend stays require a two-night reservation, and select holiday weekends require a three-night stay.
Private campgrounds handle their own bookings. Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA Holiday, Hearthside Grove Lake Erie, Hidden Lakes Family Campground, and Willow Lake Campground each manage their own inventory, so booking direct is the fastest way to confirm hookup type and rig-length fit. For peak summer weekends, plan to reserve well in advance, especially for full-hookup or lakefront pull-throughs.
What to expect on the ground
Geneva State Park's campground offers a mix where sites 38 through 52, 88, 90, 92 and 93 are electric and sewer, sites 53 through 91 are electric only, and 20 premium full-service campsites overlook Lake Erie. Facilities include laundry, a playground, and a fish cleaning house, pets are permitted on all campsites, and reservations are required online or by calling 866-644-6727. A seasonal camp store carries firewood, ice, and camping supplies.
Private parks in the area typically offer full hookups, pools, and family extras. Sites at Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA accommodate rigs up to 75 feet with 50-amp and 30-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, and pull-through lots with patios make setup straightforward for larger rigs. Access roads in the area can be narrow and partly gravel, so larger rigs should confirm turn-in details with the campground before arrival.

If you'd rather not drive at all, choose delivery and the host sets up everything at your campground.
