Camping near Reading, Ohio
Reading is a small city in Hamilton County, tucked just north of Cincinnati between Interstates 71 and 75. For RV travelers, it functions as a quiet base within the Greater Cincinnati metro, with quick access to downtown, the Ohio River, Kings Island, and the Great Parks of Hamilton County system.
The closest RV park in town is Hidden Valley RV Park and Storage, a small park in northern Reading geared toward monthly stays and self-contained rigs, with easy interstate access. Cincinnati Campsites and Tuckers Landing RV Park sit within a short drive, and travelers heading north toward Kings Island can reach Camp Cedar RV Resort, located just one mile from Kings Island Amusement Park in Deerfield Township near Mason, Ohio. Riverfront RV Park rounds out the local options for those who prefer sites closer to the Ohio River corridor.
Because Reading is inside the metro, most camping demand is driven by Cincinnati events, Reds and Bengals games, festivals, and Kings Island trips. That means weekend availability tightens quickly in warm months, and reservations well ahead of arrival are the norm.
Things to do near Reading
Kings Island amusement park is the biggest family draw in the area, roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive north, and Camp Cedar sits just over 1.1 miles from Kings Island, a quick four minute drive. Downtown Cincinnati adds the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Great American Ball Park, and the Newport Aquarium just across the Ohio River in Kentucky.
Outdoors, the Great Parks of Hamilton County system offers Winton Woods, Miami Whitewater Forest, and Sharon Woods for hiking, biking, and boating. The Little Miami Scenic Trail is a long paved rail-trail popular with cyclists, and East Fork State Park, about 25 miles east, adds a large reservoir with swimming, fishing, and mountain biking for longer day trips.

The prime RV window around Reading runs from late April through early June and again from September into mid-October, when daytime temperatures sit in a comfortable range and humidity is lower. Spring brings blooming dogwoods and generally easier weekend bookings, though May tends to be the wettest month of the year, so expect rain days.
Summer is peak season. July and August are warm and humid, with average highs in the mid-80s Fahrenheit and the temperature climbing into the 90s Fahrenheit for about 22 days a year on average, scattered through late spring and summer. Weekend sites at popular county and state parks fill several weeks out, and demand spikes further around Reds home stands, major festivals, and Kings Island holiday weekends.
Fall delivers cooler nights and strong foliage along the Little Miami River corridor. Winter camping is possible but limited: most state park campgrounds reduce the number of sites and amenities available November through March, and full-hookup sites offer electric only during winter months, and the city typically has 22 days a year when the temperature never rises above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Hidden Valley RV Park operates year-round for self-contained rigs.

Highly recommend 15/10 rating here. Clean and ready to go upon the agreed time and extremely flexible for my rental return considering I hit a traffic jam for 4 hours. Will be renting again from him alone when my personal goes down.

How to book
Ohio state park campgrounds, including nearby East Fork, Caesar Creek, Stonelick, and Cowan Lake, are reserved through the ReserveOhio system. Campsite reservations can be made 6 months to the day prior to the desired arrival date; for example, to arrive on June 1, the window opens December 1. Same-day reservations are also possible when sites are available.
The Great Parks of Hamilton County system, which runs Winton Woods and Miami Whitewater Forest campgrounds, books directly through its own reservation portal or by phone. Reservations can be made up to 14 nights at a time, and a total of four sites can be reserved at a time.
Private parks near Reading, including Hidden Valley RV Park and Storage, Cincinnati Campsites, Tuckers Landing RV Park, Camp Cedar RV Resort, and Riverfront RV Park, are booked directly with each property. For summer weekends, plan to reserve two to three months ahead.
What to expect
Expect an urban-adjacent camping experience rather than a wilderness one. Most sites are within 20 to 30 minutes of downtown Cincinnati, and access is easy off I-71, I-75, and I-275. Highways are wide and well signed, and an actual campground stay is required since overnight RV parking on downtown streets is not permitted.
Site mix varies. Great Parks properties offer a blend of full-hookup back-in and pull-through RV sites, electric-only tent sites, and rustic cabins. At Winton Woods, sites have 30/50 amp electric and sewer hook-ups, and during the winter season the water is turned off. Private parks near Reading tend toward long-stay and monthly-lease sites for self-contained RVs, so short-term availability can be limited.
Bring leveling blocks. Reviewers note that pads at several area campgrounds are uneven or awkwardly positioned relative to hookups, and shaded sites can be tight for larger rigs due to mature trees.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Reading,OhioDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Reading, OH?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Reading, OH. Ohio does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for recreational vehicles used for personal travel, as long as the rig stays under 26,000 pounds, which covers essentially every motorhome, campervan, and travel trailer on RVezy. RVezy approved drivers are generally required to be at least 25 years old with a valid driver's license, and your ID is verified right through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license. Most first-timers are surprised how quickly the paperwork wraps up so you can focus on planning the fun part.

Because Reading sits in the Ohio Valley where summer thunderstorms and occasional winter storms can pop up, it is reassuring to know RVezy support reviews these situations case by case. Cancellation details are handled at the platform level rather than on individual listings. If your plans shift, contact RVezy support and they will walk you through your options.

East Fork State Park and Caesar Creek State Park, both within an hour, also welcome leashed pets at most campsites. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, a long lead, and your dog's vaccination records, since some Ohio state park campgrounds may ask to see them at check-in.

Yes, crossing state lines is one of the best perks of an RV rental in Ohio. Reading is just 15 minutes from Kentucky and about an hour from Indiana, so day trips to Big Bone Lick State Historic Site, the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, KY, or Indiana's Brown County State Park are all easy. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on the host and protection coverage, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection coverage does not extend there. Popular multi-state routes from Reading include the Bourbon Trail loop through Lexington, KY and a Hocking Hills swing east through Ohio.

Driving an RV around Reading, OH is genuinely manageable, even for newcomers. The town sits along I-75 with wide lanes and gentle terrain, making highway driving smooth. Watch for the I-75 and I-275 interchange, which gets busy during weekday rush hours from 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 6 PM.
