Campgrounds and RV parks near Reno, OH

The main draw is the Ohio River corridor and the twin river towns of Marietta and Parkersburg. From downtown Parkersburg, a sternwheeler runs a short crossing to Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, part of the Mid-Ohio Valley recreational area, home to a reconstructed Palladian mansion, horse-drawn wagon rides, hiking trails, and picnic areas. At North Bend State Park, the 72-mile North Bend Rail Trail is a multi-purpose recreational trail designed for mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding, and motorized vehicles are not permitted. The rail trail runs along the old B and O Railroad bed from Parkersburg to Wolf Summit, near Clarksburg. The park also has an outdoor swimming pool near the River Run camping area and a 305-acre recreational lake with a boat ramp and accessible fishing pier. Closer to camp, the Little Muskingum River and Wayne National Forest offer covered-bridge drives, paddling, and hiking.

The main camping season in this stretch of the Ohio Valley runs mid-April through October. North Bend State Park confirms this pattern: the campgrounds are open from mid-April through October 31, and reservations are accepted on 15 of North Bend's electric campsites from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Blennerhassett Island runs a similar warm-season window, with sternwheeler service and island tours available from spring through late October. Spring can be wet. May is the month with the most rainfall in Parkersburg, with rain falling for 19.5 days and about 87 mm of precipitation, and low-lying riverside tent areas can sit soggy after storms. Summer brings warm, humid conditions with regular afternoon thunderstorms, and fall delivers the driest, most stable weather along with foliage color through October. September is typically the month with the least rainfall. Several private parks near Reno, including Castle Care Campground, stay open year-round for cold-season stays, though on-site amenities scale back after October. Winter travelers should call ahead to confirm which hookups and facilities are active.

Most sites near Reno are compact riverside or rural properties rather than resort-style parks. Expect gravel or grass pads, standard 30/50-amp electric with water and sewer at full-hookup sites, and quiet, wooded settings. River Run Campground has 49 sites with Wi-Fi, 26 of which have 30/50 amp electric service and water hookups, and cell coverage is generally reliable in the area. Roads into the state-park campgrounds are winding and hilly, with a twisty backcountry approach through the small town of Cairo to reach River Run. Larger rigs should plan a slower approach and avoid arriving after dark. Riverside tent and mixed-use sites can hold water after heavy rain, so ask for higher ground in spring. Firewood is typically sold on-site, and pets on leash are welcome at most parks in the area.
