Campgrounds and RV parks near Reno Beach, OH

Lake Erie drives the itinerary. Walleye and yellow perch fishing are the region's signature activities, launched from public ramps in Maumee Bay and Monroe. William C. Sterling State Park protects more than 500 acres of Great Lakes marsh and restored lakeplain prairie habitat and is well known for its access to walleye and perch fisheries. On shore, Maumee Bay State Park has a swim beach, a 57-acre inland lake suitable for sailing, canoeing, and other non-motorized boat use, plus the park's nature center. Five miles of asphalt bicycle and pedestrian trails access most day-use areas, and bike rentals and a basketball court are available. Birders should add Howard Marsh Metropark just south of Reno Beach, a wetland complex known as a migration hotspot. In Monroe, the River Raisin Heritage Trail connects Sterling to the River Raisin National Battlefield Park.

Peak RV season runs May through October, when Lake Erie beaches, lodge amenities, and marina services are all in full operation. Lake Erie dockage is available May to October at the Maumee Bay Lodge Marina. July brings warm lake temperatures ideal for swimming and the region's busiest weekends; book several months out for holiday dates. Spring and fall are quieter and productive for anglers, with the western basin known for walleye runs. Expect cool nights, changeable wind, and lingering mayfly hatches in early summer along the shoreline. Fall migration is prime for birders working the marshes around Reno Beach. Winter camping is possible at Maumee Bay but stripped down. The state park campground is open year-round, but from November 1 to April 30 the showerhouses are closed and two heated family restrooms with showers serve the campground. Full-hookup sites do not have water at the site during winter. William C. Sterling State Park operates seasonally, roughly April through November.

The landscape is flat, wet, and open, with narrow township roads leading in and out. Most RV traffic funnels along State Route 2, which sits about 2 miles south of the community. Sites at Maumee Bay are generous. Each site includes a paved parking pad, grassy area, picnic table, and fire ring, with foliage providing privacy between sites. The campground spans over 1,300 acres and offers 256 sites with 20, 30, and 50 amp electric hookups, plus a smaller group of full-hookup sites. Sterling State Park has paved pads close to the sandy Lake Erie shoreline, with limited shade. Expect mosquitoes and midges in summer near the marshes, and mayfly emergences in early summer. Lake Erie can post harmful algal bloom or bacteria advisories in mid to late summer; check current beach status before swimming, and note that Maumee Bay's inland lake beach offers an alternative when Lake Erie is flagged.
