Campgrounds near Richwood, Ohio
Richwood sits in Union County in central Ohio, within easy driving distance of several reservoir-based state parks and family-run RV campgrounds. The village is roughly a 40 to 60 minute drive from the Columbus metro area, which places it inside the service area of Ohio's ReserveOhio state-park system and within reach of private parks along the Olentangy River and Delaware Lake corridors.
Closest to town, Hickory Grove Lake Campground offers a private RV park experience with a stocked lake, and Pastime Park & Campground in nearby Plain City is a municipal campground built around a village park with mature oak trees. For larger lakes and beaches, Delaware State Park and Alum Creek State Park are the two anchor destinations south of Richwood, both operated by Ohio State Parks.
River Bend Family Campground rounds out the options as a family-oriented private site. Together, these campgrounds cover the range from primitive tent pads to full-hookup RV sites.
Things to do near Richwood
Water recreation drives most trips in this area. Delaware State Park sits on a 1,300-acre reservoir that permits unlimited-horsepower boating, with boat launch ramps, a marina, and a swimming beach. Alum Creek State Park's 3,387-acre reservoir adds a large sand beach, a lakeside dog park, and hiking, mountain-biking, and bridle trails.
Fishing is productive at both reservoirs, with crappie, catfish, and largemouth and smallmouth bass among the common catches at Delaware Lake, while Alum Creek is known for bass, panfish, walleye, and muskie. An Ohio fishing license is required for anglers 16 and older.
Away from the water, Pastime Park & Campground offers a professional disc golf course, sand volleyball courts, a walking trail, and an aquatic center within the village park.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Richwood RV rental?
You can book with confidence. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and it includes a grace period right after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip is and the timing of the cancellation. If your host cancels, RVezy helps you secure a refund or rebooking credit. Because Ohio sees occasional severe summer thunderstorms and winter snow events, this safety net matters. Pro tip: Book early to lock in the dates you want for your Richwood RV trip, then use the grace period to finalize your plans worry-free.

ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/pet-friendly-campingCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Richwood?
Yes, RV delivery Richwood is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers nervous about driving a big rig through Columbus traffic. Many local hosts will deliver, level, and set up the RV directly at your campsite (think Delaware State Park, Alum Creek State Park, or Indian Lake State Park) and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are typically based on RV size and round-trip distance from the host's location. Pro tip: Filter by Delivery on RVezy, then message the host with your campground name to get an exact quote. It turns a stressful first-timer trip into a true turn-key vacation.

weather.gov/iln/I've never rented an RV before. Is Richwood a good place to start?
Honestly, yes, Richwood is one of the friendliest first-time renting an RV experiences in Ohio. The roads around Union County are flat, the speed limits are mellow, and traffic is light compared to Columbus or Cleveland. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering hookups, the propane system, slide-outs, and dumping, so you won't be guessing. You can also message your host anytime during the trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is built into your booking. Pro tip: Pick a small Class C motorhome or campervan for your first trip and book a campground with full hookups, like Alum Creek State Park, to keep the learning curve gentle.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/campgroundsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan. One phone call connects you with help for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical issues, anywhere in Ohio or beyond. Your host is also a direct message away through the RVezy app and usually knows the rig inside and out, so most small issues (like resetting the generator or troubleshooting the water pump) get solved in minutes. Pro tip: Save the roadside assistance number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave Richwood. Cell service is solid on US-33 and I-71 but spottier in rural Hocking Hills, so a quick screenshot helps.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Richwood RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Richwood across state lines is allowed and popular. From Richwood you are within easy reach of Kentucky's Red River Gorge (about 3.5 hours), Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes (about 6 hours), West Virginia's New River Gorge National Park (about 4.5 hours), and Pennsylvania's Allegheny National Forest (about 4.5 hours). Cross-border travel to Canada depends on the specific host and their coverage, so message the host before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance restrictions. Pro tip: Lake Erie's Marblehead and Put-in-Bay area is about 2.5 hours north and makes a perfect 3-night first trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Richwood RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, so let's get specific. Class C motorhomes around Richwood typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans get 15 to 20 MPG, and if you're towing a travel trailer with your own truck expect 10 to 14 MPG. Ohio gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, often $3.00 to $3.50 per gallon. A 300-mile weekend loop from Richwood to Hocking Hills and back in a Class C might use about 30 gallons, roughly $100 in fuel. Pro tip: Pilot and Flying J along I-71 and US-33 offer RV-friendly lanes and the GasBuddy app makes finding the cheapest local pump effortless.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Richwood?
Book early and you will have your pick. Ohio State Parks open reservations six months in advance through reserveohio.com, and prime summer weekends at Alum Creek, Delaware, and Indian Lake fill within days of opening. For shoulder-season trips (May or September), 6 to 8 weeks ahead is usually plenty. Private campgrounds like Pastime Park Campground often have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: Set a calendar reminder for exactly six months before your target weekend and log in to reserveohio.com right when the booking window opens. That is how locals snag the lakefront full-hookup sites everyone else misses.
reserveohio.com/What are the driving conditions like around Richwood, OH?
Driving an RV around Richwood is remarkably easy. The area is flat farmland with wide rural roads, low traffic, and gentle grades, ideal for first-timers. US-33 and US-23 are the main arteries and handle big rigs comfortably. Watch for Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on county roads northeast toward Marysville and Mt. Gilead, especially around dawn and dusk. Winter brings occasional snow and black ice from December through February, so most renters stick to April through October. Avoid driving large Class A motorhomes through downtown Columbus during rush hour (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) and use I-270 as a bypass. Pro tip: Fuel up before leaving Richwood, rural gas stations can have low canopies that don't fit taller rigs.
transportation.ohio.gov/programs/highway-safetyWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Richwood?

Most state parks (Delaware, Alum Creek, Indian Lake) offer electric hookups (30 and 50 amp), potable water fill stations, dump stations, hot showers, flush toilets, laundry, and camp stores. Many sites have full hookups including sewer. Dump stations are typically free for registered campers. For overnight stops without a reservation, Ohio's interstate rest areas allow short rest breaks but not overnight camping, while many Walmart and Cracker Barrel locations along I-71 and US-33 still allow one-night RV parking, always call ahead to confirm. Pro tip: At Alum Creek State Park, sites in Loops B and C are closest to the beach and dump station, making them the locals' top picks.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/campgroundsWhat's actually inside an RV I'd rent in Richwood?
More than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental Richwood includes a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk beds (sleeping 4 to 8 total), a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many rigs also have outdoor speakers, awnings, flat-screen TVs, and DVD players. Wi-Fi and generators are common add-ons, just check the listing's amenity list. Campervan rental Richwood options (Class B) are more compact but still include a bed, kitchenette, and often a wet bath. Pro tip: Filter listings by 'Sleeps' count and required amenities (like AC or generator) to match your family's must-haves instantly.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/campgroundsWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Richwood offer all kinds of helpful extras to customize your trip. Common add-ons include camping chairs, outdoor grills, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, bike racks, generators, and kid or pet packages, usually $10 to $50 each. Delivery and setup is often the biggest game-changer (fees vary by distance). Mileage policies typically allow 100 to 150 miles per day with overage fees around $0.30 to $0.50 per mile, and many hosts offer discounted unlimited mileage packages for longer trips. Pickup and drop-off happens at the host's location unless you arrange delivery. Pro tip: Bundle add-ons (linens plus kitchen kit plus chairs) and ask the host for a package deal, most are happy to discount when you book multiple extras.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/campgroundsHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay the full booking amount (rental cost, protection plan, add-ons, and any delivery fees) through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before the trip, with the amount set by the host. As long as you return the RV on time, clean, undamaged, and within mileage and fuel terms, the hold is released after your trip. To avoid issues: take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, refill fuel and propane as required, and empty the holding tanks if your agreement requires it. Pro tip: Use the RVezy app checklist at pickup so nothing gets overlooked.
