Campgrounds near Roseland, Ohio
Roseland sits in Richland County in north-central Ohio, within easy reach of the Mohican region, Charles Mill Lake, and the rolling farmland of Pleasant Valley. RV travelers use it as a base for state park camping, lakeside stays, and private RV parks that serve I-71 traffic between Cleveland and Columbus.
Charles Mill Lake Park Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist sits on 2,000 acres in Richland and Ashland Counties, with a 1,350-acre lake, a 10-horsepower boating limit, and two campgrounds (Main Camp and Eagle Point) totaling more than 400 campsites plus three patio cabins. A short drive south, Malabar Farm State Park offers 15 primitive walk-in sites with fire rings, picnic tables, hitching posts for horses, pressurized water, and a self-composting restroom.
For full hookups, River Trail Crossing RV Park, Shelby / Mansfield KOA Resort, and Butler / Mohican KOA Journey round out the closest private options, with easy access to Mohican State Park trails and the Clear Fork of the Mohican River.
Things to do near Roseland
Water recreation centers on Charles Mill Lake, where the 10-horsepower limit keeps things quiet for sailing, kayaking, and fishing. The lake has 34 miles of shoreline and a full-service marina in the eastern basin, with boat rentals, fuel, and a gas dock.
Malabar Farm State Park draws day-trippers for guided tours of the 32-room Big House, the working farm, and drives up Mt. Jeez. The Big House tour is a guided museum walk through the Bromfield family home lasting about an hour, and it is not recommended for small children. The surrounding park offers 12 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, farm tours, and fishing in two stocked ponds for bluegill, bass, catfish, and trout.
Just south, Mohican State Park adds river tubing, mountain biking, and hemlock-shaded hiking along the Clear Fork gorge. The Ohio State Reformatory in nearby Mansfield is a popular rainy-day stop.

The core camping season in north-central Ohio runs from mid-spring through October. Summer daytime highs sit in the upper 70s Fahrenheit, and July averages near 79.5 F, offering suitable conditions for lake and trail activities. Summer weekends fill quickly at Charles Mill Lake and the Mohican-area KOAs, so book several weeks ahead for holiday periods.
Shoulder seasons bring cooler nights and fewer crowds. Fall foliage in the Mohican hills peaks in mid-October, and Malabar Farm keeps its Big House tour schedule running into December before a winter closure from December 14 through March. Charles Mill Lake Park runs a seven-month seasonal camping permit from April 1 through October 31, and short-term sites are limited to a few areas in each campground.
Winter camping options are limited. January in Mansfield sees monthly snowfall averaging about 4.8 inches, and snow falls in some amount from January through May and October through December. Expect frozen water spigots and reduced services at most parks between December and March.
How to book campsites near Roseland
Ohio State Parks, including Malabar Farm, use the ReserveOhio system. Reservations may be made online at reserveohio.com or by calling (866) OHIOPARKS, up to six months in advance. Sites at Malabar Farm are primitive and walk-in, so plan gear accordingly.
Charles Mill Lake Park is booked through the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District reservation portal at reserve.mwcd.org. A large share of sites is held under seasonal permits from April through October, and only a few areas of the two campgrounds accommodate short-term campers. Reserve early for waterfront and electric sites.
Private options such as River Trail Crossing RV Park, Shelby / Mansfield KOA Resort, and Butler / Mohican KOA Journey book directly through their own websites, with the two KOA properties also bookable through KOA.com.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Roseland is rolling farmland shifting to wooded ridges as travelers move south toward Mohican country. Roads are two-lane and generally big-rig friendly on state routes, though some campground access roads narrow near park entrances.
Hookup availability varies. Charles Mill Lake Park offers electric campsites with 30-amp service alongside primitive spots, while the campground at Malabar Farm State Park is equipped for equestrian camping and its 15 basic sites do not have electricity, water, or sewer hookups. The KOA properties and River Trail Crossing RV Park carry the standard private-park amenities, including full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi.
Cell reception is spotty in the Mohican gorge and around Malabar Farm. Bring a paper map, expect gravel pads, and pack layers even in summer, as valley overnight temperatures can drop sharply.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Roseland, OH?
RV rental in Roseland is one of the most affordable ways to explore north-central Ohio. On RVezy, travel trailers near Roseland typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs sit in the $250 to $375 range. To find a cheap RV rental in Roseland, book midweek, aim for May or September shoulder dates, and filter by towable trailers if you already have a tow vehicle. Many hosts also drop nightly rates for stays of 5 or more nights, so a week-long Mohican trip can be a real bargain.

Good news for first-timers: your regular Ohio driver's license (or any standard US or Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Roseland. Ohio does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes, campervans, or travel trailers, regardless of size. To book on RVezy you must be at least 25 years old and listed as an approved driver, and you confirm your ID through the platform during checkout in just a few minutes. Every RV rental in Roseland booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into your reservation, so you are never stuck on a back road in Richland County wondering who to call. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real peace of mind for your Ohio RV trip. You choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), so you can pick the option that matches your comfort level. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I cancel my Roseland RV rental if my plans change?
Yes. RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy to every booking, including a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, your refund amount depends on how far out you cancel from your trip start date, and additional protections apply for events outside your control like severe weather or natural disasters, which matters in Ohio where spring thunderstorms and occasional winter storms can change plans fast. Because RVezy (not the host) manages cancellations, the process is consistent across every Roseland listing. Book with confidence, and if life happens, our support team will walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Roseland RV trip?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Roseland is easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Pack a tie-out, a collapsible water bowl, and proof of rabies vaccination (Mohican Reservation and others require it). Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed notes, most are very accommodating.
ohiodnr.gov/wps/portal/gov/odnr/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/mohican-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Roseland?
Yes, RV delivery in Roseland is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you're new to RVing. Many local hosts will tow the trailer or drive the motorhome straight to your campsite at Mohican State Park, Charles Mill Lake Park, Pleasant Hill Lake Park, or even your driveway in Mansfield or Ashland. They'll level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Just filter by Delivery on the search page, then message the host with your destination address so they can quote the delivery fee (usually based on round-trip mileage). It's the easiest way to enjoy a Roseland RV trip without ever towing.

mwcd.org/places/charles-mill-lake-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Roseland?
Late spring through mid-fall is prime time for RV camping in Roseland, with a sweet spot from May through October. May and June bring blooming dogwoods and highs in the 70s, July and August warm into the low-to-mid 80s (perfect for tubing the Mohican River), and September and October deliver Ohio's spectacular fall color across the Clear Fork Gorge, with crisp 60-degree days. Winters are cold (highs in the 30s, occasional snow), but Mohican State Park keeps select loops open year-round for adventurous campers. Insider tip: the third weekend of October at Mohican is peak leaf-peeping, book by August. Shoulder seasons also mean lower nightly rates and quieter campgrounds.
weather.gov/cle/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay around Roseland?
You'll do great, Roseland is actually one of the friendliest places in Ohio for first time renting an RV. The roads around Madison Township and out to Mohican are mostly flat to gently rolling, with wide rural routes like State Route 39, State Route 13, and US-30 that have plenty of shoulder room. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup: how to level, hook up shore power, dump tanks, run the awning, and operate the fridge and furnace. They'll also share their phone number so you can text questions mid-trip. Stick to right-lane highway speeds, take wide turns, and you'll feel like a pro by day two. Practice in a quiet parking lot first if you want extra confidence.
transportation.ohio.gov/programs/highway-safetyWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Roseland trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the renter protection plan. Whether you have a flat on US-30, a dead battery at Charles Mill Lake, or a tow situation on the winding roads near Mohican State Park, one call gets help dispatched. Your host is also just a text away for questions about the RV's systems, and many local Roseland-area hosts will drive out to help in person since most popular campgrounds are within 30 minutes. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway, that's the only prep you need.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Roseland RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is standard on an RV road trip from Roseland, and most hosts happily allow trips into neighboring Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan, all reachable in a day's drive. Popular routes include heading east to the Allegheny Mountains, north to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, or south to Kentucky horse country. Cross-border trips to Canada (think Niagara Falls or Ontario's provincial parks) are sometimes allowed with host approval and proper documentation, just message the host before booking. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the protection package doesn't extend there. Confirm your route with the host and you're free to roam most of North America.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel mileage will I get, and what should I budget for gas?
Honest numbers help you budget right: Class A motorhomes average 7-10 MPG, Class C around 10-14 MPG, campervans (Class B) 16-20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually a 20-30% reduction in its normal MPG). Ohio gas prices typically track close to the national average. For a 4-day Roseland-to-Mohican-to-Amish-Country loop (roughly 200 miles), expect a fuel bill of roughly $80 to $130 in a Class C depending on current prices. Fill up in Mansfield or Ashland where prices are competitive, rural stations along State Route 39 can run higher. Tip: driving 60-62 mph on the highway helps maximize MPG.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Roseland?
For the best sites, book early, Ohio State Parks open campsite reservations 6 months in advance, and Mohican State Park's prime riverside spots can sell out within hours for summer weekends and fall color season. Charles Mill Lake Park and Pleasant Hill Lake Park (both managed by the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District) also fill fast for July 4th, Labor Day, and October leaf weekends. Use ReserveOhio.com for state parks and the MWCD site for lake parks. Private campgrounds like Mohican Reservation and Mohican Adventures take direct bookings, often 3-4 months out is enough. Last-minute trip? Look midweek or Sunday-Wednesday, you'll often find openings even in peak season.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/reserve-a-place-to-stayWhat are driving conditions like around Roseland?
Driving an RV around Roseland is genuinely pleasant, this part of north-central Ohio features rolling farmland, light traffic, and well-maintained roads. The main routes (US-30, I-71, State Route 39, State Route 13) all handle big rigs comfortably with truck-friendly lanes. Watch for two local quirks: Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on rural roads south and east toward Holmes County (slow down and pass with plenty of room), and winding curves with hills inside Mohican State Forest, take it easy on Wally Road and the park's interior routes. Winter brings occasional lake-effect snow squalls off Lake Erie that can reach Richland County, so check the forecast November through March. Otherwise, it's smooth, scenic driving.

Local campgrounds are well-equipped for RV camping in Roseland and the surrounding area. Mohican State Park Campground offers full hookup, electric-only, and non-electric sites, plus showers, flush toilets, a dump station, a camp store, and a seasonal swimming pool. Need a dump-and-fill on the road? Most Ohio State Park campgrounds let day-users dump for a small fee. Note: from mid-November to March, Mohican turns off in-site water at full-hookup loops but keeps the dump station's water spigot running, plan accordingly for winter trips.

Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes usually include a generator, awning, TV, and air conditioning, while many newer trailers and campervans offer WiFi boosters or Starlink. Every seat used while driving has a seatbelt, important if you're traveling with kids. Check each listing's amenity list and message the host with specific must-haves (coffee maker, high chair, outdoor speaker), most are happy to confirm.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Roseland?

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Roseland%2C%20OhioHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy at the time of booking using a credit or debit card, and the funds are managed by the platform (not the host) until after your trip. Each host sets a refundable security deposit, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV's size and value, which is held separately from your booking payment and pre-authorized before pickup. As long as the RV comes back in the same condition (no new damage, tanks dumped if required, fuel topped off), the hold is released after the trip. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos of the interior and exterior at pickup and drop-off, and follow the host's checkout checklist.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a great first-time family RV itinerary from Roseland?
For a family RV trip in Roseland, here's a crowd-pleasing 5-day loop. Day 1: pick up your RV and head 25 minutes south to Mohican State Park Campground, set up along the Clear Fork River. Day 2: tube or canoe the Mohican River with Mohican Adventures, then hike to Lyons Falls. Day 3: drive 40 minutes east to Amish Country (Berlin, Walnut Creek, Sugarcreek), grab fresh cheese and homemade pie. Day 4: roll north to Charles Mill Lake Park for fishing and a campfire. Day 5: easy drive back to Roseland with a stop at Malabar Farm State Park to tour Louis Bromfield's historic home. Total distance: about 150 miles, easy on fuel and easy on the driver.
