Campgrounds and RV parks near Russia, OH

Lake Loramie State Park anchors most itineraries, with boating, swimming, fishing for crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, and largemouth bass, and picnicking on the lake. Over 8 miles of hiking trails wind through the park, with portions following the historic canal towpath as part of both the Buckeye Trail and the North Country Trail, giving families a flat option for walking and cycling. The park also features an 18-hole disc golf course. Away from the water, renters use the area as a base for the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, the Bicycle Museum of America in New Bremen, and the shops and farm markets around Versailles and Minster. Rossburg Acres Campground sits close to Eldora Speedway for race weekends, and The Graystone Ranch offers a more rural, ranch-style stay.

The main Ohio camping season runs from late April through late October. Lake Loramie State Park is open year-round, and in winter the park offers ice fishing, sledding and snowmobiling, though the swim beach, camp store, and full water service typically operate only from spring through mid-fall. Summer is the busiest window. Weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day fill first, and lakeside sites are booked well in advance. Private parks such as Rossburg Acres and Fireside Resort see additional pressure during racing events at nearby tracks and during county fair weeks in Shelby and Darke counties. Spring and fall are quieter and cooler, with fewer bugs and easier last-minute reservations. Winter camping is possible at Lake Loramie for self-contained rigs, but expect limited services, frozen spigots, and short daylight.

Terrain around Russia is flat to gently rolling farmland, so pulling an RV in and out of local campgrounds is straightforward. County roads are paved and well signed, though some approaches to private parks include short gravel sections. At Lake Loramie, the campground offers full hook-up, electric and non-electric campsites as well as ADA-compliant cedar cabins, along with flush toilets, showers, and a dump station during the main season. Private parks in the area lean toward full-hookup sites with Wi-Fi, laundry, and family amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and event pavilions. Blue-green algae has been documented in Lake Loramie during warmer months, with posted warnings advising against contact, which is worth checking before arrival. Quiet hours are enforced at both public and private campgrounds.
